[Saitobaru] Highly recommended for both history buffs and beginners, with exhibits so impressive it's hard to believe admission is free.
Honestly, I just stopped by thinking, "It's a free museum, so I'll just take a quick look around," but I ended up enjoying it far more than I expected.
The interior is pristine and the exhibits are well-organized, making it easy to learn about the ancient tombs, burial culture, and how people lived in the past. Even if you're not a history expert, the wide array of videos and scale models will keep you fully engaged. Visiting here before or after exploring the Saitobaru Burial Mounds will definitely deepen your understanding of the area's history.
What surprised me the most was the free admission. The sheer quality and volume of the exhibits make it incredibly satisfying. It would be a real shame to lower your expectations simply because "it's free."

Spring in Miyazaki
The cherry blossom viewing at the Saitobaru Burial Mounds was absolutely charming, with the beautiful combination of cherry blossoms and rapeseed flowers 🌸✨
The sea is nearby, the people are laid-back, and the food is delicious. The taste of the local chicken is completely different from what you’d find in Honshu!
Although I only stayed for one night, I fell in love with Miyazaki.
When it comes to Kyushu, most people tend to visit places like Hakata, Nagasaki, or Kumamoto, but Miyazaki is highly recommended…!
Planning to revisit in July 🗓️

Saitobaru Kofun Cluster Sunflower Fields
Located in Saito City, the Saitobaru Kofun Cluster is famous not only for its mysterious ancient tombs but also as a popular flower viewing spot throughout the year. In summer, it transforms into a renowned sunflower destination. Around the verdant circular ancient tombs, approximately one million sunflowers bloom, creating a spectacular sea of yellow flowers. What's special is that visitors are allowed to take their favorite flowers home. The sunflower variety here is relatively short, so without the need to climb up high platforms, one can easily take in the entire view of the flower fields at eye level.
