Jingle County 3-Day Itinerary
Jingle is known as "China's Natural Oxygen Bar" and the "Back Garden of Taiyuan." Most core attractions are free, making a budget of 1,500 yuan very comfortable for a three-day trip.
🗓️ 3-Day Itinerary Suggestions
Day 1: Climb Tianzhu Mountain, visit the Confucian Temple, and get to know Jingle
After arriving in Jingle in the morning, head first to Tianzhu Mountain (free, open all day). Located 1 kilometer south of the county seat, it stands at an altitude of 1,463 meters and is known alongside Anhui's Tianzhu Mountain as one of the "Two Pillars of China." The mountain is not high, and the tour takes about 3 hours. Tianzhu Longquan at the summit is the top of the "Eight Scenery of Jingle." The spring water is clear and crisp—bring an empty bottle to taste some. In the afternoon, visit the Jingle Confucian Temple (free), which was built in the Song Dynasty and is a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level. In the evening, find a local restaurant in the county seat to enjoy authentic Youmian Kaolaolao (oat noodles).
Day 2: Wetland stroll + Red tourism + Fengshen Mountain
In the morning, visit the Fenhe River National Wetland Park (free, open all day). The Fenhe River flows through the city, and with a wetland coverage rate of 69.53%, it is a great place for birdwatching and walking. A 2–3 hour visit is recommended. In the afternoon, visit the Former Residence of Gao Junyu. This residence of the revolutionary pioneer is well-preserved and offers a glimpse into a piece of red history. If you have energy in the evening, you can go outside the city to Fengshen Mountain to see the Fengbo Pagoda. The "Shenyan Wind Cave" on the mountain is one of the eight ancient scenic spots of Jingle.
Day 3: Cengshan Mountain Wenfeng Pagoda + Return trip
In the morning, visit the Cengshan Scenic Area (free). The Wenfeng Pagoda at the summit is a landmark of Jingle. It is a nine-story brick pagoda where you can hear wind chimes ringing during the day and enjoy a panoramic view of the county seat. For lunch, have a bowl of knife-cut noodles or Daonagao (mashed potato cake) in the county seat, buy some Jingle quinoa or flaxseed oil as a souvenir, and head home in the afternoon.
💰 Budget Breakdown (Total approx. 1,400–1,500 yuan)
· Long-distance transportation (approx. 1,000–1,100 yuan): This is the biggest part of the budget. There is no direct train from Pingxiang to Jingle; you need to transfer in Taiyuan. You can take a bus from Taiyuan to Jingle, which costs about 41 yuan and takes about 2 hours. Reserve 1,100 yuan for round-trip long-distance transportation.
· Local transportation (approx. 80 yuan): The county is not large. You can walk or take a taxi to Tianzhu Mountain, the Wetland Park, and the Confucian Temple. You will need to take a taxi or ride-share to reach slightly further places like Fengshen Mountain and the Former Residence of Gao Junyu.
· Accommodation (approx. 240 yuan): Economy hotels/inns cost about 100–120 yuan/night. The Home Inn Aifei Hotel (Jingle Branch) is highly rated, with clean rooms, enthusiastic front desk staff, and great value. The Yongsheng Hotel has very low single room rates, but the conditions are quite basic.
· Admission tickets (approx. 0–50 yuan): Core attractions are almost all free—Tianzhu Mountain is free, the Confucian Temple is free, the Wetland Park is free, and Cengshan is free. This is the biggest benefit of visiting Jingle.
· Dining (approx. 300 yuan): The cost of living in Jingle is very low. A serving of Youmian Kaolaolao costs 10–20 yuan, knife-cut noodles cost 8–15 yuan, and local snacks like Daonagao and Tanhuang'er cost just a few yuan.
🍜 Local Specialties
· Youmian Kaolaolao: Jingle's signature staple food. Oat dough is rolled into tubes on a stone slab and steamed. It is chewy and delicious when dipped in lamb soup or sweet and sour sauce.
· Quinoa porridge/Quinoa feast: Jingle is the "Hometown of Quinoa in China," with quinoa cultivation area accounting for about one-fifth of the national total. Quinoa porridge and quinoa cakes are worth a try.
· Daonagao: Potatoes are steamed and then repeatedly pounded until they become glutinous. The texture is soft, sticky, and stringy—a unique, home-style flavor of Jingle.
· Tanhuang'er: Thin pancakes made from fermented corn flour. A rustic grain prepared with care, they are sweet, soft, and fluffy.
· Jingle Rice Wine: A local drink that gives a mild, pleasant buzz and is very affordable.
💡 Practical Tips
· Transportation reminder: Jingle has no high-speed railway station. Taking a bus from Taiyuan is the most practical way to get there. If driving, take the G55 Erguang Expressway from Taiyuan, which takes about 3 hours.
· Clothing advice: Both Tianzhu Mountain and Cengshan require walking, so wear non-slip, comfortable sports shoes. Jingle is at a high altitude, and there is a large temperature difference between day and night, so bring a light jacket.
· Best season: Summer and autumn are the most comfortable. Summer is a great time to escape the heat, and in autumn (September–October), the forests are ablaze with color, making for the most beautiful scenery.
· Wetland insects: The Fenhe River Wetland Park has lush vegetation, so remember to bring mosquito repellent.
