After visiting the "Sacred Sword Mountain" Didgori Battle Memorial, we took a private car and drove west for about an hour to reach Uplistsikhe near Gori. Just by the name, it's hard to imagine that this is actually an entire city "carved out of rock." Uplistsikhe is located on the banks of the Kura River in central Georgia, with origins dating back to the Late Bronze Age, around 1000 BC. Later, during the ancient Kingdom of Iberia, it became an important religious and political center. Caravans, rituals, and daily life all took place on this rocky plateau. Rooms were carved into the rock walls—some served as residences, some as storage rooms, and others as ritual spaces. The caves are connected by narrow passages, winding up and down, extending all the way to the mountaintop. The higher you go, the broader the view, with the Kura River valley stretching out below. Standing at the edge of the rock and looking into the distance, you can't help but marvel that this city has existed for thousands of years, while humans have only passed through it for a brief moment.
