Life experience Hello everyone, I wanted to share with you this magnificent solo trip I took from Lyon to Venice through the Swiss Alps and the Italian Dolomites. This trip is partly inspired by the journey of Korean streamer Jinnytty, "Lost in the Alps": Day 1: Geneva Train Lyon-Geneva: €34.10 Hotel Bernina (city card included): €150 SIM card purchase with unlimited internet: 20 CHF Visit St. Pierre Cathedral (the towers) with a magnificent view over Geneva: 7 CHF Day 2: Bern Train Geneva-Bern: €59.38 Hotel Ambassador (city card included): €191.71 – very good hotel, a bit far from the city center but easily accessible by public transport (free with the city card) Visit to Einstein's house: 7 CHF Day 3: Lucerne Train Bern-Lucerne: €28.75 Hotel Seeburg Luzern (City Card included): €180.83 – very good hotel, a bit far from the Lucerne city center but easily accessible by bus (free with the city card) 1-hour boat trip on Lake Lucerne aboard the Saphir: 25 CHF with city card (33 CHF without) Day 4: Bad Ragaz + Sargans + Chur Train Lucerne-Bad Ragaz: 29.80 CHF Bus Bad Ragaz (Station) – Pizol: 3.30 CHF Stop in Bad Ragaz to visit Mount Pizol, cable car 54 CHF to the summit (3000m) – magnificent panoramic views over the Alps + hiking. A place very little known by tourists, you feel alone in the Alps at 3000m like a real mountaineer :) Cable car descent to the town of Sargans Bus Pizol – Sargans (Station): 3.30 CHF Train Sargans-Chur: 11.80 CHF Hotel Drei Konige Chur, good hotel right in the city center and historic center: 149.20 CHF Day 5: St. Moritz Train Chur-St. Moritz: 44 CHF Here begins the most spectacular part of the train journey with the famous Bernina Express route, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage – breathtaking landscapes. Stop in Thusis to visit a cave (Thusis Valley): 8 CHF + round-trip bus: 8 CHF, beautiful scenery during the bus ride Passage over the famous Landwasser Viaduct – you can stop at Filisur station to take photos of the viaduct; I didn't do it and I regret it :D Hotel Europa St. Moritz (breakfast included but no city card) – super good hotel with a very reasonable price for a luxury town like St. Moritz. The hotel is 10 minutes from the city center by bus (24h bus ticket: 6 CHF): €100.64 + 2.80 CHF Day 6: St. Moritz and Tirano Cable car up to Piz Nair (3000m): magnificent views over the glaciers and Lake St. Moritz: 81.60 CHF Train St. Moritz-Tirano: 33 CHF The second part of the spectacular Bernina Express route – don't take the Bernina Express itself, but rather the regional train, for several reasons: the Bernina Express follows exactly the same route as the regional train and offers exactly the same scenery. The Bernina Express has larger panoramic windows that don't open, doesn't stop at all stations, requires seat reservations, and is more expensive. The regional train has slightly smaller but openable windows, you can stop at any station (more flexible), no seat reservation needed, and it's cheaper. Stop at Bernina Diavolezza station and cable car up to see the Diavolezza and Bernina glaciers: 44 CHF Continue the journey to Tirano – Hotel Albergo Gusmeroli Tirano (breakfast included), very good hotel right in the historic center of Tirano: €100 Day 7: Bormio Bus Tirano-Bormio: €2?! Arriving in Bormio, luck struck hard :D – I happened to stumble upon the Bormio Pizzoccherata, a local festival held once a year in the historic center of Bormio, where locals dress in traditional costumes and eat, sing, and drink together at a table over 800m long running through the historic center. An exceptional atmosphere throughout the day. Hotel Rezia, super good hotel perfectly located between the historic center and the town of Bormio, with a balcony room offering a magnificent view of the mountains (breakfast included): €92.10 Day 8: Ortisei (The Dolomites) Transport Bormio-Ortisei – this is the longest and most tiring part of the whole trip: 7 hours of transport, 4 buses and 2 trains, including the bus that zigzags up the famous Stelvio Pass road – beautiful scenery again: €8.50 + €3.50 + €4.50 + €7.50 + €11 + €7 Arrived in Ortisei at 4pm, check-in at Hotel Fortuna, excellent hotel with room and balcony offering a breathtaking view of the mountains: €388 for two nights (city card + breakfast included) Cable car to Seceda (the most panoramic view of the Dolomites): €52 Day 9: Ortisei Cable car to Seceda + paragliding (20 minutes of pure joy and adrenaline): €180 + €30 + €39 Cable car to Alpe di Siusi: €23 Walk down from Alpe di Siusi – over two hours of hiking down Day 10: Venice Transport Ortisei-Venice: 5-hour journey, 1 Bus + 3 Trains: €19 + €10.35 Hotel Principe, average hotel next to the Grand Canal in Venice (breakfast included): €100 + €4.50 Day 11: Venice-Lyon Bus to airport: €10 EasyJet flight Venice-Lyon: €63 There you go – the trip lasted 11 days and cost me around €2900. On the day of my departure, no hotels or trains were booked in advance. During the trip, I made a few hotel reservations one or two days ahead, especially in the small towns in the Alps. For trains in Switzerland, you should definitely opt for discounted tickets for routes outside the Bernina Express line – much cheaper than standard fare tickets. You need to buy them a day in advance and online. The route is easily doable by anyone (only the Bormio-Ortisei and Ortisei-Venice legs are a bit tiring). The trip was done with a 4kg backpack and a small chest bag. I used Google Maps for directions, Deepseek (AI) for activities/outings/discoveries, trip.com/official sites/Google Maps for hotel bookings, and the "Mobile CFF" app for trains in Switzerland. Vaduz, Liechtenstein Starting from Zurich, you can easily light up a tiny country on the map in less than two hours and achieve a "hidden achievement." 🚞 Scenic Route: Take the train from Zurich HB directly to Sargans (about 1 hour), then seamlessly transfer to the yellow bus lines 11/12 (about 20 minutes) right outside the station, and you’ll arrive at the center of Vaduz. It was gloomy and rainy at the start, but shortly after departure, we unexpectedly encountered a rainbow🌈. As the altitude rose, the clouds dispersed, the grass turned greener, and snow-capped peaks appeared one after another in the distance — creating the feeling of "entering a secret realm." 🛣️ Main Street Stroll: Städtle Pedestrian Area The essence of the entire country is concentrated on Städtle, the main street, where you can visit the tourist center, the Postage Stamp Museum, the National Museum, the church... You can explore the core area in just half an hour on foot. 🏰 Hilltop Painting: Vaduz Castle The real visual highlight is Vaduz Castle on the hill. Walk up the steep path, with several benches along the way to rest and enjoy the view of the distant snow peaks. Although the castle interior is not open to the public, standing on the hillside feels like stepping into a classical oil painting. 🛂 A Sense of Ceremony: The 3 CHF "Entry Souvenir" Finally, go to the Liechtenstein Tourist Center on the second floor of the main street (Liechtenstein Center) and pay 3 CHF to get a special commemorative stamp on your passport. Although it’s not an official visa, seeing a new country’s mark in your passport gives a satisfying sense of achievement. 📌 Travel Tips: • Route: Zurich HB → Sargans (train), seamless transfer to yellow bus lines 11/12 → Vaduz Post stop.

Liechtenstein Vaduz One-Day Essential Guide: Explore the "Stamp Kingdom" Hilltop Castle Welcome to Liechtenstein, Europe’s fourth smallest microstate.
