After walking around the new town hall, I accidentally discovered that there was a specialty restaurant hidden in its ground floor – Ratskeller München (Address: Marienplatz 8, 80331 München). The environment inside is chill and spacious, the whole atmosphere is super comfortable, the point is that the price is quite friendly! I tried their famous German pork hands 🍖 this time, every bite is stewed super tasty, very smooth and meaty, perfect for meat lovers ~ plus a glass of authentic German beer 🍺, it is a perfect match! Finally, I ordered the classic German black forest cake, layered with chocolate and cream, sweet to melt the heart, really satisfy all the taste buds😋! This time, I departed from Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) in Germany. I initially thought the airport's dining options would be similar to other European airports, but the food court after security was much more comfortable than expected. Although not as large as major international transit airports, the overall environment was clean and bright, with spacious seating. Whether you wanted a quick meal, a coffee, or a short rest before boarding, you could find a suitable spot. The food court in BER Terminal 1 is located above the Market Place area after security. It offers a variety of dining options, including Italian cuisine, Asian food, burgers, coffee, and Berlin specialties. Whether you prefer light or hot meals, there are plenty of choices. In recent years, Burger King and Starbucks have been added, further diversifying the dining options. Overall Environment of the Food Court Upon entering the food court, the first impression was its spaciousness, unlike the crowded and noisy dining areas in many airports. There were plenty of tables and chairs, so even near peak dining times, it was still possible to find a seat. I really liked the design here. The seating area overlooks the bustling Market Place below, and watching travelers come and go while you dine adds a touch of leisurely respite as your trip nears its end. The overall lighting is good, and the place is very clean, making the dining experience more comfortable than I expected. My actual meal: I chose a pasta dish with a drink. The food was made to order, and the service was quite fast. While the pasta wasn't restaurant-quality, the sauce was rich and the portion was generous, perfect for replenishing energy before your flight. My friend opted for Berlin's classic Currywurst, enjoyed with fries – a local flavor definitely worth trying when traveling to Germany. The sausage skin was slightly crispy, paired with a curry sauce with a hint of sweetness and spice; even at the airport, you can enjoy quintessential German cuisine. After dinner, we went to a café and bought hot lattes, chatting while waiting to board. Although the prices were a bit higher than in the city, I felt it was well worth it to slowly enjoy the last moments of our trip in such a comfortable environment. A Little Tip If your flight allows, I recommend allowing at least an hour to leisurely enjoy your meal at the food court; don't rush to buy and leave. Also, peak dining times are usually in the morning and evening. To avoid queues, arrive earlier or later. Since airport food is generally more expensive than in the city, if you're on a budget, you can opt for a simple meal. If you enjoy coffee, consider buying a cup, relaxing in the food court, and watching planes take off and land outside the window—a perfect way to end your trip. Overall Impression While the Berlin airport food court may not boast dozens of restaurants like some major Asian airports, its overall layout is remarkably well-designed. The environment is comfortable, the flow is clear, and the dining options are sufficient to satisfy most travelers' needs. Stayed near the city centre, making it easy to explore most attractions on foot and by public transport. Day 1 🏛️ Started the trip at Marienplatz, where the beautiful New Town Hall and the famous Glockenspiel set the perfect first impression of Munich. After exploring the square, I visited the Munich Residence Museum, which was one of the highlights of the trip. The grand halls, royal rooms, and impressive collection of treasures really showed how luxurious the Bavarian royal family once lived. Later, I stopped by Rischart Café to enjoy some fresh pastries and coffee before ending the evening with traditional Bavarian food and beer at Hofbräuhaus (HB). The live music and lively atmosphere made it a memorable night. Day 2 🏰 Took a day trip to the breathtaking Neuschwanstein Castle. The journey was absolutely worth it. The castle looks like something straight out of a fairy tale, especially when viewed from Marienbrücke. Surrounded by mountains and beautiful landscapes, it became one of my favourite experiences in Germany. Day 3 ☕ Spent the final morning strolling through Munich’s Old Town, picking up souvenirs, enjoying one last coffee, and soaking in the relaxed atmosphere before heading home. Munich is a city that offers something for everyone—beautiful architecture, fascinating royal history, delicious pastries, world-famous beer, and easy access to one of Europe’s most iconic castles.
