Motown and soul music have always been deeply personal to me, thanks to my aunt who introduced me to these tunes while growing up near Seaside and Monterey, California. My childhood was filled with the sounds of The Jackson 5, and unforgettable concerts featuring legends like The Commodores and Earth, Wind & Fire. So, walking into Soul of Motown at Westgate Las Vegas, I already felt a profound connection to the music. The performers instantly brought those cherished memories flooding back. Their voices are truly powerful, the harmonies are spot-on, and there's a contagious energy in their performance that makes the audience want to sing along. What stood out to me was how much the cast seemed to genuinely enjoy being on stage. They engaged with the crowd, shared laughs, and kept us all thoroughly entertained with their humor and charm. For me, this show beautifully captures what Motown is all about—not just singing classic songs, but embodying the soul, personality, movement, harmonies, and emotion behind the music. Listening to these timeless tracks transported me from my youth in Seaside and Monterey to my life today in Las Vegas. Different era, different venue, but the same songs and the same cherished memories. I stayed in Cannon Beach (inn $160), drove to Ecola Point 07:45, paid $5 cash at the iron ranger (card at the main booth only), walked Clatsop Loop (2.5 mi). The moss on the WWII radar ruins was black-green with salal berry, ate a $7 Cannon Beach clam chowder bread bowl, watched a pod of sea lions off Indian Beach at 09:00. Mistake: I hiked the Tillamook Head full traverse (6.5 mi to Seaside) in Dec afternoon — cliff fog zero viz, turned at Chapman Point; short loops only in winter, full traverse May–Sep, 08:00 start. Another: $5 cash for the iron ranger, booth card-only. Would you pay $5/vehicle for the Ecola Point→Clatsop Loop mossy spruce-cliff walk, or skip Ecola and do the free Oswald West Cape Falcon instead?
