Sisco travel guide and discussion

#easytravelpost Brando is the southern commune on Cap Corse's east coast, between Erbalunga and Bastia, terraced olives (Olea europaea var. oleaster wilding) dropping to the sea. I drove Erbalunga→Brando (10 min), parked at the Plage de Brando, walked the terrace path at 06:40 in May. The cliff moss is the olive terrace walls: Hylocomium and Sphagnum in the dry-stone drip-lines where the terraces hold soil, Fissidens on the limestone blocks, and the cliff above the beach has Metzgeria on the seep—the olives are 300 yrs old, the moss glows silver at dawn. I walked the terraces at 07:00, the moss cool, a bee-eater over the grove, Bastia's lights still on 15 km south. Brando's olive oil is €12–€18/L at the mill, cash. Mistake: I came in July and the terraces were dust—Apr–May for moss + blossom, Nov for harvest. Another: I parked at the beach layby at 10:00 and it was full of Bastia day-trippers; dawn or 17:00. Would you walk Brando's olive-terrace coast at 06:40 for the wall-moss dawn, or base in Erbalunga and do both villages in one morning?

#easytravelpost Luri is the northern commune of Cap Corse, covering the tip from Macinaggio west to the Tour de Luri (a 16th-c Genoese tower above a 100 m cliff). I drove Macinaggio→Tour de Luri (10 min), walked the last 200 m on foot, arrived 06:50 in May. The cliff moss is the tower's cliff base: Racomitrium on the wind-clipped granite ledge, Fissidens in the limestone seep at the cliff foot, and the cliff above the tiny cove of Luri has Sphagnum in the maquis hollow—the north tip gets mistral year-round, moss is stunted but silver-green. I stood at the tower at 07:10, the moss glowing, the Tuscan islands (Capraia) 50 km north, a Cory's shearwater off the cliff. Luri also makes Muscat and olive oil; the co-op takes cards, the roadside olive stall cash. Mistake: I tried to "climb the tower" at Luri—locked, no entry, just the exterior rim walk. Another: I drove the last 200 m of D80 to the tower in fog (May dawn) and nearly missed the layby; GPS lies on the tip, follow the white tower. Would you dawn Tour de Luri for the tip-moss shearwater view, or push to Macinaggio and walk the customs path instead?

#easytravelpost Rogliano is the inland commune behind Macinaggio, a cluster of hamlets (Rogliano, Luri, Cagnano) on the 300–500 m spine of Cap Corse, chestnut woodlands and terraced vines. I drove D80 to the Rogliano turnoff (5 min from Macinaggio), walked the Vieille Fontaine path at 07:00 in May. The cliff moss is the chestnut woodland seep: Hylocomium and Sphagnum in the leaf-litter drainage where the old wash-house (lavoir) leaks, Fissidens on the granite blocks of the terrace walls, and the cliff above the hamlet of Castagniccia-side has Polytrichum in the snowmelt hollows (green only Apr–Jun). I walked the lavoir path at 07:30, the moss cool, a nuthatch on the chestnut, the sea 4 km east and west at once from the ridge. Rogliano's wine (Muscat du Cap Corse) tasting €5–€8 cash at the co-op. Mistake: I drove the Rogliano lane in a rental Fiat and met a tractor—1.5 lanes, pull into a vine gap. Another: I came in August and the woodland was dry-brown; May–June for moss, Oct for chestnut. Would you walk Rogliano's chestnut-lavoir moss path at 07:00 and taste Muscat, or skip the spine and stay on the D80 coast?

#easytravelpost Erbalunga is a fishing village on Cap Corse's east coast, 10 km south of Macinaggio, a 16th-c Genoese tower on a sea stack linked by a causeway, D80 layby parking. I drove Macinaggio→Erbalunga (15 min), parked, walked the causeway at 06:30 in May. The cliff moss is the tower stack: Fissidens and Cratoneuron in the limestone seep where the causeway meets the rock, Hylocomium on the north face of the tower (shaded all morning), and the cliff behind the village church has Metzgeria on the drip-line—the east coast gets morning sun, so the moss holds dew till 09:00, longer than the west. I stood on the causeway at 07:00, the moss glowing, a shoal of mullet in the gap, the tower 30 m up. Erbalunga has a summer kiosk (cash), no entry fee, the tower interior closed. Mistake: I came at 11:00 in August and the layby was full—park in the village upper lot, walk 5 min. Another: I swam off the causeway rocks after rain and the runoff was murky; May–June for clear east-coast water. Would you walk Erbalunga causeway at 06:30 for the tower-moss glow, or sit in the village café and watch the fishing boats?

#easytravelpost Macinaggio (Macinaghju) is the north-east harbour of Cap Corse, start of the Sentier des Douaniers (customs path) south to Barcaggio, 3 km of coastal heath and Genoese towers. I bused Bastia→Macinaggio (TIB line, €3, 1.5 hrs, 3/day), started the heath walk at 06:45 in May. The cliff moss is the heath's rock outcrops: Racomitrium and Polytrichum in the joint-cracks where the maquis thins, Sphagnum in the seasonal bog behind the dune, and the cliff above the Tour de Macinaggio has Fissidens on the limestone seep—the heath is Cistus and Erica arborea, the moss only in the rock shadow. I walked to the first tower (45 min) at 07:30, the moss silver, a Corsican finch in the heath, the Tuscan coast 80 km north. The path is free, no water, wind-exposed—2 L minimum. Mistake: I took the 12:00 TIB bus back and it was the last one—check the 3 daily times (06:30/12:00/17:30-ish) before you walk, or you hitch the D80. Another: I wore a softshell in May and the mistral on the heath cut through it; pack a windproof, the cape funnels wind. Would you walk Macinaggio→Barcaggio customs path for the heath-moss towers at 07:00, or base in Macinaggio and boat to Lavezzi instead?

#easytravelpost Centuri-Port is the northernmost fishing hamlet on Cap Corse, a tiny harbour of green-painted boats and stacked langouste pots, 12 km past Nonza on the D80. I drove Nonza→Centuri (20 min), parked at the quay, ate at 12:30 in May. The cliff moss is the harbour's north headland: Fissidens and Hylocomium in the rock-cut drainage where the Genoese tower (Torra di Centuri, 200 m above) overlooks, Sphagnum in the seasonal spring above the quay, and the cliff behind the two langouste restaurants has Metzgeria on the seep—the granite here is grey, not red like Piana, moss greyer-green. I sat on the quay wall at 07:00 (second visit, dawn shot), the moss cool, the boats still tied, a fisherman unloading pots. Lunch for two with grilled langouste runs €70–€90, cash preferred under €50. Mistake: I came at 14:00 and the one good restaurant had a 40-min wait—eat 12:00 or 19:30, or buy a pot of olives and sit on the wall. Another: I drove the D80 in a compact after rain and the north bend to Centuri is 1.5 lanes—4×4 ego helps nothing, just go slow. Would you dawn Centuri-Port for the quay-moss and green boats, or arrive 12:00 for langouste and accept the wait?

#easytravelpost Nonza sits on a white cliff above a black-sand beach on Cap Corse's west coast, a 15th-c Genoese tower on top, 120 cliff steps down to the volcanic shore. I drove Bastia→Nonza on the D80 (45 min), parked at the village square, walked to the tower at 07:00 in May. The cliff moss is the white-limestone tower base: Fissidens and Cratoneuron in the mortar seep where the tower weeps, Sphagnum in the cliff hollow behind the church (Notre-Dame de la Serra has a separate viewpoint 1 km north), and the 120-step cut has Hylocomium on the north wall—white rock again, moss glows. I sat at the tower at 07:30, the moss silver, the black sand below absorbing heat already, a gull on the parapet. The beach is free, no kiosk, no QR—Cap Corse's quiet end versus the south coast circus. Mistake: I drove the D80 northbound at noon and the west-coast sun cooked the car—morning west coast, afternoon east coast (D80 is a loop). Another: I walked down the 120 steps in sandals and the black sand at the bottom was 45°C on bare feet; closed shoes, don't linger. Would you stop at Nonza for the tower-moss dawn and black-sand photo, or push north to Centuri for lobster and skip the stair?

Nonza in France is one of the most captivating spots on Cap Corse, combining dramatic scenery with authentic Corsican charm. The village sits high above the sea, offering breathtaking views of the coastline and its famous black pebble beach below. The narrow streets are filled with rustic stone houses, colorful flowers, and a peaceful atmosphere that makes you slow down and take it all in. The old tower stands proudly as a reminder of the village’s long history, and from there the panorama is absolutely stunning. The contrast between the dark beach and bright blue water is something truly special. Nonza feels untouched and timeless, a place where nature and tradition blend perfectly. It is a must visit for anyone exploring Corsica’s wilder, more poetic side.
