If you’re going to Melbourne for holiday or just searching a weekend gateaway from busy city life, you should go to Churchill Island. 90 mins drive from Melbourne City, we will arrive to completely different vibes! Churchill Island boasts a range of walking and cycling trails free to enjoy, as well as daily farming activities and digital quests around the Heritage Farm. This island is famous for their wildlife animal too. 💰If you’re going to their Heritage farm I have a tips for you. Single entry ticket fee is $17, to save money you can buy 3 park pass for $54 including koala convervation reserve & penguin parade. But be mindful you may not be able to join all the activities at Churchill if you buy the 3 park pass because you will not have enough time. Or you can just go with FREE entrance before their ticketing gate, you can still access their big farm & take pictures with the highland cows. #celebratewithtrip en route to Philip island , my tour stopped at cowes which is a town close to Philip island to visit the cute little penguins. the town is very beautiful in fact and it’s filled with colorful shop houses that sell many variety of things such as food , restaurant bars and necessities as well as ice cream gelato. very interesting place to be at. and you can stop over here for a short break or meal such as dinner before going to visit the Philip island penguins. there is also a grocery stop so it’s very easy and convenient for the people here. the jetty is also very pretty but do note that it’s quite windy. so buckle up!

#celebratewithtrip during my trip to Philip island to see the cute little penguins , my tour actually dropped by cowes for us to just chill awhile and explore this town. cowes is actually the largest town in Philip island. there are quite a variety of stores available here for shopping and visiting and purchasing some essentials. there is also restaurants and ice cream which is perfect for the summer weather. overall the town looks nice and peaceful. a great stop to refresh. there’s also a jetty nearby. you can also stop by here for dinner before heading to Philip island to see the penguins if you have some time to spare.

Good place to visit for family and kids. The factory is small. Entry to the cafe is free and for the tour it's $18 per person. What you get is a token with a QR code (10 credit points) and a chocolate bar. You can use the token to play games that are towards the end of the tour and earn wooden balls.

Hidden koala paradise near Melbourne 🐨 Located just a short ferry ride from Stony Point on the Mornington Peninsula, French Island is home to thousands of wild koalas. This epic 14km day hike takes you through remote beaches, untouched bushland and past some of the best koala spotting in the state. The trail runs from Tankerton Jetty along the coast through mangroves and saltmarsh to Fairhaven Campground, then inland up to Pinnacles Lookout for sweeping views across to Phillip Island. The final stretch back to the township is where the island really comes alive, with koalas lounging in the trees and even wandering along the path. The full loop takes around 4 hours to complete and if you want to slow things down you can camp overnight or grab a coffee at the General Store before catching the ferry back. #epictravelmoments Finally, I waited until last Sunday for a rare sunny day to re-visit the Cape Woolamai Circuit, which is about 9km long and very simple. The official time to complete it is 2-3 hours, but I took 4 and a half hours because it was so photogenic! I spent a lot of time taking photos and even climbed a bit on the accessible sea cliffs. This trail is undoubtedly the closest and most beautiful coastal hike to Melbourne! (The second place is the Cape Schanck via Two Bays Walking Track I posted two weeks ago.) The main reason is that the scenery is rich and varied. On such a short trail, you can see vast coastlines, bizarre sea cliffs, sea cliffs, grasslands, calm bays, beaches, forests, and even glimpse the coastline of the George Bass Coastal Walk. An important tip is that if you follow the route on All Trails to complete the loop, the beach section starting from Old Granite Quarry may be impassable if there is high tide, making it impossible to complete the loop. You need to choose to take the 2km shortcut back to the parking lot when you see the signpost, or continue on the 2.5km loop. This trail is also suitable for a day trip combined with Phillip Island. There are plenty of guides for Phillip Island online, but I still recommend zooming in on Google Maps and clicking on each place marked with attractions to see pictures and reviews, and find your favorite lookout and/or short trail. This is also my method for finding places I like when traveling to any country or place. Additionally, I recommend a stunning photo spot I discovered by chance on the way. The approximate location is Phillip Island Road, Service Road, San Remo VIC 3925. Its name on Google Maps is "lookout," and the picture is p1. I arrived just as the sun was setting, and the light was absolutely perfect. It's my favorite photo recently!! Finally, coastal hikes must be done on a sunny day!! After the main viewing, follow the crowd towards the boardwalk if permitted. The roads can be very dark after the Penguin Parade, with limited street lighting. If you’re planning a trip to Melbourne, Puffing Billy Railway is probably one of the attractions on your bucket list—and after experiencing it myself, I can confidently say it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I’d recommend to anyone visiting Victoria. From hanging your legs out of a century-old steam train to cruising through the beautiful forests of the Dandenong Ranges, it truly felt like stepping into a movie scene. Here’s everything you should know before you go! 🎟️ How We Booked Our Tour We booked our Puffing Billy + Maru Wildlife Park + The Nobbies + Phillip Island Penguin Parade Day Tour through Trip.com for approximately SGD170 per person. We intentionally chose a smaller group tour instead of a large coach because we preferred less waiting time. Looking back, it was the right decision! ✔ Comfortable van ride (pick up at your preferred location) ✔ Smaller group = smoother coordination ✔ More personalised experience throughout the day 🚐 Journey from Melbourne CBD The drive from Melbourne CBD to Puffing Billy Lakeside Visitor Centre took approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. We arrived at around 11:20am, giving us about an hour before the train departed at 12:30pm. Our tour guide kindly collected our train tickets and encouraged us to explore Emerald Lake Park while waiting. 🌳 Explore Emerald Lake Before Boarding Don’t rush straight to the platform! Take some time to enjoy the surroundings before your train ride. Around the visitor centre, you’ll find: ☕ Cafés for coffee or light meals 🛍️ Puffing Billy souvenir shop 🌿 Beautiful walking paths around Emerald Lake It’s a peaceful way to begin the experience before boarding the historic steam train. 🚂 The Most Important Tip: Choose the Right Seat! Each group is assigned a carriage, but seats within the carriage are first come, first served. If you’re hoping to capture the famous photo of Puffing Billy crossing the iconic timber trestle bridge… 👉 Sit on the LEFT side of the train (facing away from the platform when boarding). That’s the side where you’ll get the best view! Unfortunately, we weren’t quick enough and ended up on the right side. But honestly… It turned out to be a blessing in disguise too! 🔥 We Discovered Something Even Cooler! Since we weren’t on the famous photo side, we walked towards the front of the train before departure. We got to admire the steam locomotive up close and watch the crew shovel coal into the engine. It was fascinating to see how a heritage steam train still operates today—and made us appreciate the experience even more. ✨ Like Stepping Into a Movie At exactly 12:25pm, the station master blew the whistle and Puffing Billy slowly rolled out of the station. Watching the crew dressed in traditional railway uniforms instantly transported us back in time. It honestly felt like we were part of a classic movie scene. 🌿The Experience Everyone Comes For The highlight, of course, is sitting on the window ledge with your legs hanging outside the train. It’s something you rarely get to experience anywhere else in the world. As the train winds through forests, wooden bridges, and open countryside, you can simply relax, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy the scenery passing by. It was such a unique and nostalgic experience. 💡 Safety tip: Always hold onto the handrail and remain seated comfortably throughout the ride. If you need a break, there are cushioned seats inside the carriage. 💨 One Thing Most People Don’t Mention If you’re seated nearer the front of the train, be prepared for a little extra excitement! Because the locomotive is coal-fired, you may experience some smoke and tiny black coal particles, especially if the wind changes direction. It’s all part of riding an authentic heritage steam train—but it’s worth knowing beforehand, especially if you’re wearing light-coloured clothing. 💡Travel Tips ✔ Arrive early so you can queue for your preferred seat. ✔ Sit on the left side for the famous bridge photo. ✔ Wear warm clothing or dress in layers, especially during winter, as the countryside can be much cooler than Melbourne CBD. ✔ Keep your phone or camera ready—the scenery changes throughout the journey. ✔ Take some time to explore Emerald Lake before boarding. 💭 Is It Worth Visiting? Get your camera ready because you can't miss filming this guy. He's completely white (a very rare color), stands in the middle of the field, and comes right up to people. Pro tip: Squat down, reach out your hand with food (they give you food at the entrance) or just your palm. This kangaroo will wrap his paws around your wrist, lean in, and… start kissing you! He rubs his nose against your cheek, and sometimes even gently nibbles your chin (it doesn't hurt, it's his way of showing love). On video, it looks like you're reuniting with a best friend after a long time apart. There's usually a queue for him, but it's totally worth it.
