#arrivalguide Mirusha is 90 min southwest of Pristina by car (bus to Malisheva then taxi, arrange return in advance—no taxis wait). The canyon holds 13 limestone pools over three levels; the main swimming hole under the lower falls is gorgeous but I went for the upper falls via the old oak-forest descent. Do NOT trust Google Maps to the trailhead—it sent me to a broken bridge. Use the Mirusha Hotel as your waypoint, then follow the M9-1 road to the fish restaurant and park there. From the restaurant a faded path climbs left into deciduous forest (mostly oak and hornbeam), drops via eroded switchbacks to the upper cascade shelf. No signs, no entry fee, no warden. I wore approach shoes and still slipped on the clay-after-rain sections; after a dry week it was fine. Bring 2 L water, pack out everything (locals litter at the lower pool). The upper falls are narrower but the oak canopy and canyon walls make it the better photo. Swimming at the upper tier is risky—currents stronger than they look. Best light is 9 am front-light on the limestone. Mistake: I arrived at 2 pm and the lower lot was a family BBQ party; upper tier was empty but hot. Go before 10 am. Discussion: is Mirusha worth a dedicated day trip from Pristina, or better paired with a Peja–Rugova valley loop?

Belgrade Fortress (Beogradska tvrđava) stands proudly on the cliffs overlooking the confluence of the Sava and Danube Rivers, serving as the historic heart of Serbia's capital. More than just a massive military fortification, it blends seamlessly with the vast Kalemegdan Park, creating a vibrant public space for locals and tourists to relax, enjoy panoramic river views, and witness breathtaking sunsets. 📜 Historical Background: The Heart of the "City of a Thousand Battles" Belgrade Fortress is one of Europe's oldest defensive structures, with history dating back to a 3rd-century BC Celtic settlement. Its strategic position—controlling the gateway between the Danube and the Balkans—led to over two millennia of alternating rule by Romans, Byzantines, medieval Serbs, Ottomans, and Austro-Hungarians. · Battle-Hardened: The fortress has witnessed over 115 battles and has been destroyed and rebuilt more than 40 times. · Layers of History: A "living museum" where you can see Roman walls, medieval towers, Ottoman bath ruins, and Austro-Hungarian fortifications layered atop one another. 🏛️ Key Attractions and Sightseeing The fortress is divided into the Upper Town (Gornji Grad), Lower Town (Donji Grad), and Kalemegdan Park. · The Victor (Pobednik): Built to commemorate WWI victory, this iconic landmark towers over the cliff edge. It is the fortress's most recognizable symbol and the ultimate spot to capture the sunset where the two rivers meet. · Military Museum: Located at the Upper Town entrance. While there is an indoor museum, the main draw is the impressive free outdoor display of WWI and WWII cannons, tanks, and armored vehicles lined up along the moat. · The Roman Well, Military Bunker, and Big Gunpowder Warehouse: Mysterious underground sites that reveal the fortress's defensive secrets and storage history; guided tours help uncover their stories. · Ružica Church: A stunning, ivy-clad Orthodox church. Its interior features unique chandeliers crafted from WWI shell casings, swords, and medals—a haunting yet beautiful mix of faith and war. 🚌 How to Get There Located at the heart of the Old Town, the fortress is incredibly accessible. · On Foot (Recommended): Walk to the end of Knez Mihailova Street, the city's main pedestrian thoroughfare. Cross the street, and you will walk straight into Kalemegdan Park and the fortress grounds. · Tram: Take Line 2 (the circle line) or Line 11 and hop off at the Kalemegdan stop. · Bus: Take lines 22A, 31, or 29A to Studentski Trg (Student Square), followed by a 5-minute walk to the park entrance. Practical Travel Tips 1. Tickets and Opening Hours: · The park and fortress grounds are open 24/7 and free to enter. · Only specific internal sites (like the Clock Tower, Roman Well, Bunker, and torture instruments exhibit) require tickets. Single tickets range from 80 to 350 RSD, with combo tickets available for around 450 RSD. 2. Best Time to Visit: • Head there 1-2 hours before sunset. Explore the military museum and ancient walls first, then grab a spot on the stone wall near "The Victor" to watch the spectacular sunset over the river confluence. 3. What to Wear: • The site covers 66 hectares with uneven cobblestones, gravel paths, and steep historic steps. Comfortable, non-slip walking shoes are essential. 4. Suggested Itinerary: • Knez Mihailova Street (shopping) ➡️ Belgrade Fortress ➡️ Sunset views ➡️ Skadarlija Bohemian Quarter (for traditional Ćevapi and live music).

In southwestern Serbia, the mountain resort of Zlatibor is famous for its golden pine forests — a landscape so distinctive that its name is often associated with the idea of a “Golden Pine” mountain. But the most unforgettable way to experience this region may be by railway. After a meal at the Golden Pine railway restaurant, board the remarkable Sargan 8, a historic narrow-gauge railway winding through the mountains. The railway takes its name from the shape of its route. Seen on a map, the track twists and loops like the number 8, allowing the train to climb through the mountainous terrain without relying on one long, steep ascent. And the journey is anything but ordinary. The route passes through 10 bridges and 22 tunnels, winding through dense forests, mountain valleys and peaceful landscapes. One moment the train disappears into darkness; minutes later, it emerges into another sweeping view of the Zlatibor highlands. There is something wonderfully old-fashioned about the experience. No rush. No highways cutting through the scenery. Just the gentle rhythm of a narrow-gauge train moving slowly through the mountains, with forests outside the window and the landscape revealing itself one curve at a time. For railway lovers, it is an adventure. For photographers, it is a moving viewpoint. And for anyone who simply wants to slow down, Sargan 8 turns the journey itself into the destination. 📍 Sargan 8 Railway, Mokra Gora, Zlatibor District, Serbia 🇷🇸 🚂 How to Get There: The Sargan 8 railway operates from the Mokra Gora area in western Serbia, within the Zlatibor region. The most convenient way to reach the station is by car, taxi or organised excursion from Zlatibor or Užice. Train services are seasonal and schedules can vary, so check the current timetable before travelling. 📸 Photography Tip: Sit beside a window for changing mountain views, but also photograph the railway itself — tunnels, bridges, curves and the locomotive make excellent subjects. If permitted, exterior shots of the train emerging from a tunnel are particularly dramatic. ✨ Signature Feeling: Golden pine forests, mountain tunnels, historic railway tracks and a train journey shaped like an enormous number eight. On Sargan 8, the destination matters less than the beautiful, winding way you get there. 🚂🌲

Serbia is increasingly becoming a magnet for travelers seeking a European vibe without the usual red tape. In 2026, the country remains one of the most accessible destinations: for many, no visa is required, and the flight from major hubs is quite short. Situated in the very heart of the Balkans, Serbia feels like a crossroads of East and West — a blend reflected in its architecture, cuisine, and rhythm of life. Why Visit in 2026 Visa-Free Entry. For many travelers (including Russians), a passport is all you need to stay for up to 30 days without a visa. Just remember to register (the "white cardboard") within 24 hours — hotels do this automatically, while apartment hosts handle it for you. Affordable Prices. Compared to Western Europe, the cost of accommodation, dining, and tours is significantly lower, while the service remains top-notch. Friendly Atmosphere. Serbians are famous for their hospitality. Many speak English or understand basic phrases, and the attitude toward tourists is traditionally warm. Diverse Leisure. You can combine city walks, nature trails, thermal springs, and culinary discoveries — all in a single trip. What to See: The Highlights Belgrade: Kalemegdan Fortress and Park. This is the historical heart of the city, featuring fortifications that have survived countless eras and offering the best views of the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers. The adjacent park is perfect for a leisurely stroll. Knez Mihailova Street. Belgrade’s main pedestrian artery: historic buildings, cozy cafes, souvenir shops, and street performers. Temple of Saint Sava. One of the largest Orthodox churches in the world, stunning in its scale and mosaics. Even if you aren't religious, it’s worth visiting for the atmosphere and architecture. Zemun District and Gardoš Tower. A charming corner with narrow streets, waterfront cafes, and an observation deck on the tower providing a panorama of the Danube. Novi Sad and Petrovaradin Fortress. Serbia’s second-largest city and a massive fortress on the banks of the Danube, now home to festivals and exhibitions. Fruška Gora National Park. Picturesque hills, ancient monasteries, and excellent hiking trails. Zlatibor. A mountain region with crisp air, wooden cottages, and walking paths. Great for a day trip or an overnight stay. Devil’s Town (Đavolja Varoš). A natural monument in southern Serbia — hundreds of bizarrely shaped stone pillars that look like a set from a sci-fi movie. Gastronomy: What You Must Try Serbian cuisine is all about generous portions, grilled meats, and homemade flavors. In 2026, don’t miss out on: Pljeskavica. A large grilled meat patty, usually served in a flatbread with onions, ajvar, and kajmak. Ćevapčići. Grilled meat sausages — a Balkan classic. Ajvar. A vegetable spread made from roasted peppers and eggplant; it’s eaten as an appetizer, spread on bread, or served with meat. Burek. Flaky pastry filled with meat, cheese, or spinach — a perfect breakfast or snack. Kajmak. A rich, creamy dairy product served with bread or meat dishes. Rakija. A strong fruit brandy: plum (šljivovica), apricot (kajsijevača), and more. Best enjoyed slowly with food. Bermet. A spiced dessert wine from the Vojvodina region — a unique culinary souvenir. Practical Tips for 2026 Currency. The official currency is the Serbian Dinar (RSD). Cards are widely accepted, but cash is useful, especially outside major cities. Connectivity. Internet is solid in Belgrade and tourist spots, but can be spotty in the mountains. Download offline maps if you’re planning an active route. Transportation. Buses and trains are convenient for traveling between cities. Belgrade has a public transit system, while taxis or scooter rentals are great for short distances. Serbia in 2026 is your chance to see Europe without the formalities, soak in the Balkan atmosphere, and discover new tastes and landscapes.

#backpacking2026 Standing atop the wind-swept ridges of the Shar Mountains, watching sheep graze across vast emerald meadows with jagged limestone peaks framing the sky, I knew I had stumbled upon something extraordinary. Western Kosovo offers an untamed, authentic wilderness experience that easily rivals the European Alps, but without the swarms of tourists or steep price tags. As I hiked from the historic cobblestone streets of Prizren up into the high-altitude trails, every step revealed pristine glacial lakes, cascading streams, and dramatic mountain passes that felt completely mine to explore. Beyond the landscapes, what truly stole my heart was the warmth of the locals. Whether it was a shepherd offering directions along a high peak or a family inviting me in for hot macchiato and traditional flija, the hospitality across Western Kosovo makes you feel welcomed like long-lost family rather than just another passerby. Your backpacking journey should center around two primary regions: the dramatic Shar Mountains in the south and the rugged Bjeshkët e Nemuna, also known as the Accursed Mountains, along Western Kosovo near Peja. Start your adventure in Prizren, exploring its Ottoman architecture and hiking up to the ancient fortress before heading into Sharr National Park for high-ridge treks like Mt. Ljuboten. Moving west, base yourself in Peja to tackle the spectacular Rugova Canyon and hike up to the clear waters of Liqenat Lake. Kosovo is one of the most budget-friendly destinations in all of Europe, making it a dream for backpackers. Daily budget costs typically run between 30 and 50 Euros per day. Comfortable hostel beds or family guesthouses cost around 15 to 25 Euros a night, hearty local meals like fresh qebab or burek cost only 3 to 6 Euros, intercity buses run for just 2 to 5 Euros per trip, and entrance to nature spots is almost entirely free. Navigating this region requires a few key insider tips to make the most of your trek. Always carry cash in Euros, as small mountain villages, local warungs, and family-run guesthouses rarely accept cards. Public regional buses are reliable between main cities like Pristina, Prizren, and Peja, but for trailhead access deep in the mountains, hitchhiking is very common, safe, and friendly, or you can split a affordable local taxi with fellow travelers. Make sure to download offline map apps like Maps.me or Wikiloc before heading out, as cellular signal can drop along high mountain passes. Pack a reusable water bottle equipped with a filter, bring extra layers for unpredictable alpine weather changes, and always greet the locals with a warm smile and a polite word of thanks. Pack your gear, lace up your boots, and set your sights on Western Kosovo and the Shar Mountains before the rest of the world catches on. From standing high above untouched alpine valleys to sharing warm, authentic moments with locals who truly welcome you, this hidden Balkan paradise offers the raw, soul-stirring adventure every true traveler dreams of. #SharMountains #WesternKosovo #BackpackingBalkans #RugovaCanyon #offthebeatenpath #DiscoverKosovo #hikersparadise

Nestled in Western Serbia, Tara National Park is a true sanctuary for nature lovers, featuring unforgettable canyons, vast forests, and pristine lakes. The park is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, boasting breathtaking landscapes and its most famous landmark: the iconic cabin built on a rock in the middle of the river near Bajina Bašta. If you're looking to escape the urban grind and reconnect with the outdoors, this destination offers a perfect slow-living experience. Recommended Itinerary: We suggest starting from Rastište and heading to the town of Bajina Bašta for a peaceful stroll along the Drina River, where you can soak in the quiet charm of a Serbian small town. Your next stop must be the Drina River House—this cabin is the most iconic landmark in all of Tara National Park and has been featured in countless travel magazines. Continue along the riverbank to explore nearby forest trails and witness the untouched wilderness of the Tara forest. If time permits, consider renting a bicycle or joining a canyon rafting excursion to admire the park's grandeur from a unique perspective. Must-Visit Spots: · Drina River House (Drvengrad House On The Rock): A must-photograph Instagrammable spot in the Tara National Park region; it looks stunning at any time of day! · Tara Riverside Trails: Discover a wealth of native wild plants along these paths—perfect for a leisurely stroll or capturing short videos. · Scenic Overlooks: There are several hidden gems of viewing platforms that offer panoramic views of the entire Tara Canyon; the lighting is particularly beautiful at sunset. Travel Tips & Considerations: 1. The park area is quite vast, so we recommend setting aside at least a half-day or even a full day for exploration. 2. Please note the opening hours: The park is only accessible to visitors on weekends from 07:30 to 14:30 year-round. Don't make the trip on a weekday to avoid disappointment. 3. The area is relatively remote, so pre-arranging transportation is highly recommended; self-driving or booking a local tour is your best bet. 4. Wear a pair of comfortable hiking shoes. Some sections of the forest trails can be quite muddy, so sturdy sneakers are essential. 5. There are few restaurants or convenience stores within the park, so remember to bring your own snacks and plenty of drinking water. Summary: Tara National Park is more than just a photo op; it offers a genuine and delicate connection with nature. Whether you're there for photography, hiking, or to simply unwind, it is a top-tier destination. Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast or just looking for the perfect backdrop, Tara National Park belongs on your travel bucket list.

#cultureshock Ripanj, a village south of Belgrade, is famous for its quarries—and for the vivid blue clay that seeps from the earth like exposed veins. I hitched a ride from a friendly truck driver (common practice in rural Serbia; just wave, say “Ripanj,” and offer to buy coffee) and asked to be dropped near the old quarry pits. The sight was surreal: massive gouges in the hillside, stained a brilliant, almost unnatural cobalt blue. I knelt at the edge of a muddy pool, where the clay had liquefied into a thick, viscous slurry. On impulse, I plunged my hand into the muck. It was cold, slimy, and oddly soothing—like plunging into a primordial ooze. I pulled my hand out, leaving a perfect imprint in the clay bank. The blue stained my skin, my nails, my clothes. A group of kids playing nearby laughed and shouted, “Plava glina!” (Blue clay!). They explained that local women use it for face masks, mixing it with honey and yogurt. I tried it later—smearing a glob on my cheek—and yes, my skin did feel softer. But the real shock was the color’s intensity. This wasn’t the gentle beige of pottery class; it was electric, almost toxic-looking. I learned that the blue comes from high concentrations of glauconite, a mineral formed in ancient seabeds. Yet there were no warning signs, no barriers, no “Do Not Touch” orders. Just a raw, industrial wound in the earth, open for anyone to explore. I washed my hands in a nearby stream, the blue runoff turning the water an eerie turquoise. I bought a loaf of corn bread from a roadside stand (€1) and ate it while watching a crane scoop more blue clay into a truck. It made me wonder: when nature is this vibrant, this usable, does it cease to be sacred? Or does the act of touching—leaving a handprint—become a new kind of ritual? Have you ever interacted with a landscape so physically—digging, smearing, staining—that it changed how you saw your own body in relation to the earth?

Belgrade caught me by surprise. It doesn’t have the polished look of some European capitals, but that roughness is exactly what gave the city its personality. 1. Start at the Fortress I spent my first morning exploring Belgrade Fortress and Kalemegdan Park, where the Danube and Sava rivers meet. The views were fantastic, especially around sunset when the city started glowing. 2. Eat and wander through the old streets I walked along Knez Mihailova Street, stopping at cafés and small shops before exploring Skadarlija. The cobbled street, traditional restaurants, and live music made dinner feel much more memorable. I couldn’t leave without trying ćevapi and a glass of Serbian rakija. 3. See Belgrade after dark One evening, I walked along the Sava Promenade and continued toward St. Sava Temple. The enormous interior was impressive, but seeing the church illuminated at night was what really stayed with me. I also visited the Nikola Tesla Museum, which was a surprisingly fun stop, even for someone who isn’t usually interested in museums. What I liked most about Belgrade was its energy. People seemed to eat late, stay out late, and actually enjoy their evenings. It felt youthful, spontaneous, and completely unpretentious. Belgrade isn’t trying to be perfect and honestly, that’s part of its charm. #belgrade #serbia

I arrived without expectations. What I found was a city that's been destroyed and rebuilt more than forty times. A fortress where the Sava meets the Danube. A party district in a former industrial wasteland. Grandmothers who still make ajvar by hand. And a nightlife that doesn't start until midnight and doesn't end until the sun comes up. Belgrade doesn't try to charm you. It just is. And that's exactly what makes it unforgettable. Here's how I fell for Europe's last wild capital. 🏰 7:00 AM — Kalemegdan Before The City Wakes Kalemegdan Fortress sits at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. It's been a military stronghold for two thousand years. Celts, Romans, Byzantines, Ottomans, Austrians. All of them held this hill. At dawn, it's empty. I walked the ramparts. The rivers stretched silver in the morning light. The Victor Monument, a bronze man with a sword, stood against the sky. I sat on a cannon from the 18th century. The city was silent below. For a moment, I held two thousand years of history in my lungs. 🆓 Free 📍 @Kalemegdan Fortress ⏰ Sunrise is sacred ☕ 9:00 AM — Coffee In A Street That Doesn't Exist Anymore Skadarlija is Belgrade's bohemian quarter. Cobblestones. Gas lamps. Restaurants with live tamburica music. It's beautiful and touristy. But just around the corner, there's a café called Blaznavac. It's named after a Serbian general. The garden is wild and overgrown. The coffee is strong and cheap. I sat under a chestnut tree. A stray dog slept at my feet. The waiter brought me a glass of water without me asking. This is Belgrade. Rough edges. Warm heart. 💸 200 RSD (about 2 USD) 📍 @Blaznavac Café 🏛️ 11:00 AM — The Temple That's Never Finished The Temple of Saint Sava is the largest Orthodox church in the Balkans. It's been under construction since 1935. The exterior is complete. The interior is a work in progress, but the crypt is finished and it's breathtaking. Gold mosaics cover every surface. Christ's face gazes down from the dome. The light catches the gold and scatters like fire. I stood in the center. A priest chanted in the corner. The sound echoed off the marble. I'm not religious. But I understood why people built this. Some spaces are made for silence and awe. 🆓 Free 📍 @Temple of Saint Sava 🥘 1:00 PM — Lunch That Tastes Like Someone's Grandmother Serbian food is comfort. Heavy. Rich. Made for cold winters and long family lunches. I found a restaurant called Zavičaj in a residential neighborhood. The walls are covered with old photos and folk costumes. I ordered sarma, stuffed cabbage rolls, and a plate of kajmak, the creamy cheese that's somewhere between butter and sour cream. The sarma arrived in a clay pot. The meat was tender. The cabbage was soft and tangy. I ate slowly. The waitress brought me homemade bread. Then she brought me rakija. "On the house," she said. It burned. It warmed. It was perfect. 💸 1,500 RSD (about 15 USD) 📍 @Zavičaj 🎨 3:00 PM — The Museum That Made Me Cry The Museum of Yugoslavia is outside the center. It's a strange, haunting place. The House of Flowers, where Tito is buried, is a greenhouse. His tomb is a simple marble slab. Around him are the batons that were carried across Yugoslavia every year in a relay of unity. The country doesn't exist anymore. The museum is a monument to an idea that died. I walked through the exhibits. Letters from workers. Photos of Tito with world leaders. A room full of the gifts he received. It felt like a eulogy. I didn't expect to be moved. I was. 💸 600 RSD (about 6 USD) 📍 @Museum of Yugoslavia 🌅 6:00 PM — Sunset From The Sava River I took a small boat tour on the Sava at golden hour. The city slid past. The fortress loomed on the hill. The bridges arched overhead. The sun set behind New Belgrade, the communist-era blocks glowing orange. The boatman told me stories about the city. The wars. The bombings. The rebuilding. "Belgrade has been destroyed forty-four times," he said. "She always comes back." The water was calm. The sky was fire. I believed him. 💸 1,500 RSD (about 15 USD) 📍 Sava River boat tours 🎺 9:00 PM — The Trumpet That Made Me Dance Serbia gave the world the trumpet. Balkan brass bands are not a show. They're an earthquake. I went to a kafana, a traditional tavern, where a brass band played on a tiny stage. The room was packed. The trumpets blazed. The drums thundered. An old man grabbed my hand and pulled me into a kolo, a circle dance. I didn't know the steps. It didn't matter. The circle moved. I moved with it. The music got faster. My feet found the rhythm. For ten minutes, I was Serbian. The song ended. Everyone cheered. The old man kissed my cheek. "Sad si naš," he said. Now you're ours. 💸 Free entry, drinks are cheap 📍 Kafana in @Skadarlija 🌃 11:30 PM — The Party In A Former Industrial Zone Belgrade's nightlife is legendary. The clubs are in abandoned warehouses along the river. I went to a place called Drugstore, a concrete bunker with strobe lights and techno music. The crowd was young and wild. The music was loud and relentless. I danced until my shirt was soaked. I emerged at 4 AM. The sky was turning grey. The river was still. I sat on the bank and watched the sun rise over the city that never sleeps. Belgrade had done its work. I was exhausted. You come for the fortress on the river. The kafana where trumpets shake the walls. The party in a former factory. The grandmother who feeds you sarma and pours you rakija and asks about your family. Europe isn’t expensive 👇🏻 You’re just going to the wrong cities. Most people think Europe costs €100+ a day because they visit places like London, Paris, or Rome. But cities like Budapest, Skopje, Belgrade, Warsaw, Sarajevo, Tirana, and Bucharest can cost €25–€40 a day if you travel smart. Accommodation is cheaper, food is cheaper, and many attractions cost much less. Hostels can be €10–€20, local meals are only a few euros, and there are plenty of free or cheap things to do. One reason these cities are cheaper is because average salaries are lower in these countries, so the cost of living is lower overall. That’s the reality behind the lower prices. But for travelers, it means you can experience beautiful historic cities, great food, and a lot of culture without spending a fortune. Many of these places are also clean, safe, and far less crowded than the famous Western European capitals. Sometimes the best way to travel Europe is simply to go a little further east (as you expect from me). #europe #cheaptravel #budgettravel #europetravel #easterneurope

#worthitornot The drive along the Zborište viewpoint on Tara Mountain offers a sweeping vista of the Drina River canyon—often called the “most beautiful in Serbia.” But the real story lies beyond the railing. I parked at the Zborište lot (no fee, open year-round) and hiked a 3.5 km forest path toward Mitrovac. Midway, hidden beneath a canopy of Serbian spruce, sits the skeletal remains of an abandoned Yugoslav army base. Built in the 1960s as a strategic communications hub, it was abandoned after the 1990s sanctions. Today, the concrete shells are draped in ivy, with rusted bunk beds and shattered porcelain still intact. One room still has faded tactical maps pinned to the wall. The hike is moderate—90 minutes one way—but the descent into the valley is steep. I wore trail runners and regretted it; waterproof boots are better due to spring mud. Entry to the park is free, but the nearby Mitrovac Hotel (now a modest eco-lodge) charges €10 for parking if you loop back there. A local warned me not to touch the rusted metal—sharp edges and possible asbestos. I brought €5 worth of plums from a roadside vendor in Bajina Bašta; they tasted better with the history around me. The base isn’t on any official map, which is why it stays authentic. Question: does the eerie beauty of abandoned military sites outweigh the safety concerns, or should such places be off-limits to casual hikers?

Honestly, a sincere warning! Serbia is beautiful but really stressful 😭! Just finished a 5-day trip, completely exhausted and got scammed! The overall safety here is good, making solo travel relatively safe. · Visa and currency: Chinese passport holders get 30 days visa-free, so you can go anytime. The local currency is the dinar (RSD). It’s recommended to bring euros and exchange cash at city exchange points, where rates are better than at the airport. Most places also accept card payments. · Transportation tips: Within the city, you can take numbered buses for free or download Moovit to check schedules. For taxis, use Yandex Go or Pink Taxi to avoid detours. There are frequent intercity buses; it takes about 1.5 hours from Belgrade to Novi Sad. For self-driving, a translated driver’s license is required. Mountain roads are complex, and headlights must be on during the day. · Attractions and itinerary: A 5–7 day classic route is: Belgrade (Kalemegdan Fortress for sunset, Saint Sava Cathedral, Knez Mihailova Street; spend half a day at Zemun town by the Danube feeding swans) → Novi Sad (Petrovaradin Fortress panoramic view, Freedom Square) → western mountains (Wooden Village, Sargan 8 narrow-gauge train, river cabins). If you have more time, you can also visit visa-free Bosnia and Montenegro. · Food and practical tips: Must-try Ćevapi grilled meat and Kajmak creamy cheese. Local food tends to be salty, so remember to buy bottled water to stay hydrated. Dress appropriately when visiting churches. It’s customary to leave a 5%–10% tip at restaurants.
