A Pilgrimage Along Spain's Atlantic Coast ~ Gipuzkoa Region A beautiful small beach with a modest parking area. During the off-season, many campers can be found here (overnight stays are allowed). The beach features an estuary, a waterfall, and caves. It is a mixed sand and pebble beach with some debris. At high tide, only the area near the estuary has sandy shores, but during low tide, the sand becomes more prominent, allowing access to the waterfall and caves without getting your feet wet. The waves here are suitable for beginner surfers. The beach is equipped with two showers and a drinking fountain. During the off-season, the beach bar is open, serving delicious sandwiches, burgers, snacks, ice cream, and drinks. The delightful 'Green Route' (Ruta Verde) trail extends along the coast from the beach. Additionally, a circular trail from the beach to the town's 'Wreck Park' (Parque de las Arrieres) and back via a passage is also very pleasant, suitable for children's bikes and strollers. We had a wonderful and colorful beach day there.

The current loading dock was built in 1938, replacing the old one destroyed during the Spanish Civil War in 1937. The dock consists of a massive square stone column supporting a cantilevered metal structure. This structure allows ships to dock below the pier, receiving ore directly from land. It is 95 meters long and 14 meters above sea level, making it one of the largest loading docks on the Cantabrian coast. The Dícido Loading Dock was designated a cultural heritage site in 1996 in recognition of its heritage and historical value. Despite its gradual decline over time, a comprehensive restoration project was approved in 2021 to protect and restore the structures. Today, the Dicido loading and unloading terminal bears witness to the region's industrial history and is the only one of the six mineral loading and unloading terminals in Castro-Udiales to remain intact. However, there are few benches, and some areas even lack railings. At sunset, the edge of the breakwater is dotted with fishermen, creating a picturesque scene. You can also take a walk along the highest point of the breakwater.

The area is lush with greenery, offering endless natural scenery and an impressive coastline. It is peaceful and serene here. There weren’t many visitors on the day. Numerous information panels provide deeper insights into the local flora and fauna. There are also (free) telescopes available to zoom in and observe some interesting sights. There are plenty of benches here, making it convenient to sit and enjoy the stunning views. The area is stroller-friendly, with most paths being gravel but not too steep. However, I would note that wheelchair accessibility might be a bit challenging. This is truly a great place to enjoy the coast and natural beauty.

There is also a video in one of the rooms that explains everything before you enter. They have an observation deck where you can overlook the 'Liérganes Mountain.' At certain times, they offer guided tours. The most interesting part is the otter feeding time; if the schedule remains unchanged, it is at 12:30, with another session in the afternoon. The ticket prices are reasonable, €7 for adults and €3.50 for children. The center's restaurant offers one free drink per person.

The entrance is located just outside the site, with convenient parking available. The entire tour can be completed in about an hour and a half, but the island's various attractions are almost indispensable. You can pause to admire the views and the ancient architecture. In short, this place feels like a scene straight out of a movie.

There are a bunch of trails up there, from chill walks to proper hikes if you’re feeling adventurous. Even just wandering around a bit gives you that fresh mountain air and epic scenery combo. What’s even better is that it’s not crowded, giving it a special, almost secretive vibe, like you’ve discovered your own private lookout. There’s also this epic rock formation called El Piloto nearby that’s cool to check out if you're into little side quests. No shops or cafés around, so bring whatever you need. It’s tucked in the Picos de Europa mountains, and the main event is definitely the cable car ride, it shoots you almost vertically up the cliffside and lands you at this insane viewpoint surrounded by towering peaks. Seriously, it felt like we were floating above the world. Once you’re at the top, it’s just mountains everywhere. You can wander around the trails, snap a million pics, or just sit and take in the pure mountain magic. We went on a partly cloudy day and the clouds were literally rolling through us, felt like something out of a movie. There are a few hiking routes up there if you’re feeling adventurous, but you can also just hang near the top station and still get the full experience. Don’t forget a jacket, it’s way cooler up high! Honestly, Fuente Dé is one of those places that makes you feel tiny in the best way. Nature showing off, big time. Loved every second.

Marques de Riscal Elciego has always been a leading example in the wine industry, becoming the first winery in the Rioja region to use Bordeaux methods to make wine in 1858. In 1972, it became the first driving force in the creation of the famous wine region of Rueda, where it produces the world-renowned white wine of Marques de Riscal. The development of Marques de Riscal winery is closely linked to Don Camilo Hurtado de Amezaga, the Marquis of Riscal. The Marquis was originally the owner of the vineyard and winery of Torrea Estate in Elciego. He was a person with many titles such as diplomat, journalist, and freethinker, and became a citizen of Bordeaux, France in 1836. In 1858, the Marquis of Amezaga was commissioned by the Diputacion Foral de Alava to hire a French winemaking scholar to teach locals to make wine using Medoc techniques. The Marquis and Jean Pineau, the director of Chateau Lanessan, collaborated and signed a technical contract on behalf of the provincial government to help the wineries in Alava. In the same year, Marques de Riscal transported 9000 premium grape vines to the Rioja region, and the dominant varieties in these vineyards were still Tempranillo and Graciano.
