a visit to Bomarsund, a former Russian military outpost used to protect their interests in the Baltic sea. it's now in ruins after the British and French destroyed it after the Battle of Bomarsund in the Crimean War. a lovely afternoon walk with lots of history, there is a visitor centre you can visit for 8 euros. it's accessible by bike (2 hrs from Mariehamn) or bus from Mariehamn. we cycled and then got the bus back and put our bikes underneath #historicallandmarks #military
