Suva travel guide and discussion

Fiji 🇫🇯 is honestly that magical paradise you *cannot* skip on your travel bucket list. I mean, the vibes here? Insane. Crystal-clear ocean water, super chill palm-lined beaches, and sunsets straight out of your wildest dreams 🌅. Every corner is pure ✨ island magic ✨! If you’ve never been, all I can say is—run, don’t walk. From world-famous spots like Nadi and Denarau Island (address: Denarau Island, Nadi, Fiji — open 24/7 for epic resort life!) to local food markets in Suva (Suva Municipal Market, Rodwell Rd, Suva — open Mon-Sat 6am-6pm, closed Sundays), you’ll fall in love again and again. The beaches? White sand that feels sooo good between your toes. The water? Next-level turquoise—so Insta-worthy you’ll never need a filter. Fiji’s coral reefs and diving locations are mind-blowing, especially at Mamanuca Islands and Yasawa Islands, both easy to access by ferry from Port Denarau (Port Denarau, Denarau Island, Nadi — ferries operate daily). Not to mention the friendliest locals you’ll ever meet. Whether you're learning a bula dance or grabbing fresh kokoda (the Fijian-style ceviche) from a beachside stall, everything feels *so* welcoming. Oh, and adventure junkies: zip-lining at Sleeping Giant Zip Line Fiji (address: Wailoko Road, Nadi; open 10am–4pm) is a must! So, pack your bags, grab your sunnies, and get ready for a *major* dose of island bliss in Fiji. Don’t forget to check out trip.com for deals on flights, hotels, and unforgettable experiences!

🇫🇯 Power and Heritage: Exploring Suva's Government Buildings Step into Fiji’s historic heart at the Government Buildings in Suva—a striking colonial complex that’s home to Parliament, the Prime Minister’s offices, and the High Court. Whether you’re fascinated by politics or simply love impressive architecture, this spot blends grandeur with island vibes. Recommended Route: Start at Victoria Parade and stroll towards Ratu Sukuna Road for panoramic shots of the building’s façade. Pause awhile in the grounds—lush gardens and classic columns set the perfect scene for photos. If Parliament is in session, peek through the visitor gallery for a glimpse of island democracy at work (check their website or Trip.com for session times, as public access varies). Must-Do Activities: Snap a selfie by the Royal coat-of-arms for an iconic “I was here” moment. Walk the perimeter for symmetrical shots of the colonial styling—morning light catches the pale stone beautifully! Don’t miss the flag-raising ceremony if you’re lucky enough to visit around a national event. Photo Spots: Top angles: From the main gate on Ratu Sukuna Road, looking up at the central dome; by the gardens for wide shots; from Victoria Parade for bustling city backdrop. Visiting Tips & Precautions: Dress smartly—modest attire is best to respect the government setting, and be mindful of posted security zones (no photo areas). Weekdays offer more chances to see officials in action; avoid the area on weekends for less activity. If you want the full story, join a guided walking tour—local guides bring the history alive! #Suva #Fiji #GovernmentBuildings #Heritage #TravelTips #celebratewithtrip #travel

Stepping into the laid-back rhythm of the South Pacific, the locals in Fiji love smiling and telling me, "Take it easy buddy, it's Fiji Time here!" Fiji's pure vibe and its almost "sluggish" laziness really made me feel right at home. Here, time isn't something you keep track of—it's something you happily waste in the crystal-clear blue waters and the warmth of the people. Fiji is made up of over 300 islands, like pearls scattered across the South Pacific. This time, I started from the main island of Nadi and went island-hopping to Mana, Castaway, Funky Fish, Malolo, and Musket Cove. The Sandbank was the most dreamy stop of my trip. This sandbar, made of fine white sand, only reveals itself briefly during low tide. Standing in the middle of the ocean with soft white sand beneath your feet, surrounded by clear, emerald waters—that sense of isolated beauty is truly unforgettable. Monuriki Island is the filming location of Tom Hanks' movie Castaway. The island even still has the SOS signal traces from the movie. Beyond the stunning underwater coral reefs, the fine white beaches and crystal-clear waters will make you never want to leave. Sea turtles symbolize good luck in Fiji. As a wanderer, I absolutely love the turtle's "wherever the ocean is, that's home" mentality. Snorkeling around Mana Island and watching the sea turtles paddle gracefully seemed like a reminder that life should be this carefree! I stayed on Mana Island for four nights, tagging along with boatman Joesese to pick up VIPs arriving by seaplane (he joked that only broke people take the boat). I also joined the locals in foraging for sea grapes, catching fish on the beach, and even making rings out of coconut shells. Nadi Street Survival Guide: While the people on the outer islands are pure and adorable, you need to keep your wits about you in the main town of Nadi. My hostel owner jokingly warned me about the many "crocodiles" (overly enthusiastic scammers) on the streets. I was once pulled into a wood carving shop on Nadi's main street to drink Kava. They passionately introduced their culture, only to slap me with an astronomical price tag at the end. If you run into overzealous shopkeepers, remember to politely decline, or you might be pressured into buying a bunch of stuff! When in Fiji, your taste buds need an island-hopping tour too: · Kokoda (Raw Fish in Coconut Milk): Fiji's national dish! Fresh fish is marinated in lime juice and mixed with coconut milk, onions, and chili. Tangy and refreshing, it's the ultimate comfort food for an island afternoon. · Lovo (Earth Oven Cooking): This is the traditional Fijian feast. Ingredients like chicken, fish, and taro are wrapped in banana leaves and buried in a pit of hot stones to slow-roast, giving them a rich, smoky char. · Cassava Salad: When prices on the outer islands got steep, the locals treated me to this simple yet hearty cassava dish—my top pick for experiencing authentic local flavors. · Fiji Bitter: Sitting on the beach watching the sunset, if you don't have a bottle of this beer in your hand, you haven't truly been to Fiji!

The Grand Pacific Hotel is just that :'GRAND'. You can sit by the pool taking in the beautiful scenery across the Suva Bay and have an afternoon tea party on the beautiful balcony while admiring the flowers. Theres a Bula Bar , Function Rooms that can host entire formal occasions and luxurious guest rooms. The hotel is situated in the middle of the Main City Area and within walking distance to local city areas. Beautiful is the Grand Pacific Hotel 🌟

Holiday Inn hotel is just right outside on the edge of town- close enough to be near all the various shops and malls but also far enough to be away from all the town noise and traffic etc!! it’s the perfect location if you want peace and convenience in Suva. We ordered a 12-inch four cheese pizza and it was amazing!! the prices are not too bad, and with all the cheeses and fillings on the pizza, youre full within only a few bites🤩 We also got some chai latte; it tasted SO GOOD that we just had to ask for a second round- it’s literally so yum. #pizza #food #afternoon #pool #hotel #fiji

Grand Pacific hotel has an amazing range of cakes and cheesecakes for only $10 a piece!! You can grab a slice from the bakery in the front and walk over to the back and look for a table by the poolside to sit and enjoy your desert with a beautiful view of everything and nice breeze. You can also order a drink or anything off the menu that you can scan from the qr code to view. GPH is a cozy place to enjoy good company and good bites #dessert #icecoffee #views

A bunch of us went fishing along the seawall in Suva, and the cool thing is it’s right in the middle of town but in a nice secluded area where it’s private enough to sit and fish peacefully but also is in a path where just enough people walk by, making it feel safe. It was my first time ever going fishing and I managed to catch my first fish which was so exciting!!! Although it was the only fish I caught in about a whole hour of sitting there, the actual act of fishing was so relaxing and peaceful- good for my mental. I highly recommend fishing at this spot behind Thurston garden because it’s safe, it’s comfortable, has good breeze, and you get to meet a lot of great people who pass by as you fish. This location is also really convenient because it’s close to the shops and to the main road. And as you can see, all you’ll need is a hook, line, bait and any old bottle to get your fishing game on🤩 #fishing #passingtime #relaxing

Location of this place is so awesome! Just like 15 minutes away from Suva itself. Really easy and relatively cheap to reach it with taxi or local cars. Roads are in good condition, but do NOT think you can walk through the paths without getting your shoes muddy and wet. Rains are very often in here. There is a lot of a small waterfalls and beatiful creeks to take pictures and selfies. Mostly bigger waterfalls are crowded with locals and also mostly teenagers. swimming also totally nice and relaxing. please take care of your belongingwhile swim. It might disappear sometimes 😄. Our local friend also told us to hire a guide for walkthrough, so that those teens could't rob us on our way. I am not sure but most of the local were nice and kind. You'll catch a good selfie and picture specially at the beach and falls. I miss COLO I SUVA . #suva #fiji #coloisuva

In almost every corner of the South Pacific Resort, the original island style is revealed. Walking into the resort away from the world, several employees wearing traditional costumes slammed the snails above the lagoon and gently hit the wooden drums. Afterwards, several companions held flower garlands and walked through the wooden promenades to meet the tourists from afar, offering refreshing tea. This solemn and quaint welcome ceremony brings the time to the ancient times of Polynesia.

It was Fiji Independence Day. Very awesome. I was very lucky. I was staying at the Devos on the park. It is central for Suva and very handy to get to shops, market and the port. I moved to Maui Bay for last night at De Vos residence and that was serene and magical ... Was well looked after and staff went above and beyond which made me feel really special.

October is still in Fiji's cooler dry season, which is suitable for coastal walks and outdoor experiences, but rain may still disrupt plans. The hardest choice is which day to schedule outdoor activities. Check the daily forecast and local arrangements first, and keep flexible experiences as backups. If it rains, switch to indoor cultural experiences or the Fiji Museum. Regional weather varies, and flora and sea conditions are not guaranteed to be as desired on the day. Day 1 | Nadi Gardens and Town Area Base yourself in Nadi and start with the Garden of the Sleeping Giant to see orchids and foothill views. If it rains or the park conditions aren't suitable for walking, move this stop to a time with better weather. Afterward, head to the Sabeto Hot Springs and Mud Pool, and check if conditions are suitable for soaking before deciding to experience it. Return to Nadi town for shopping and visit the Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple to see the colorful Hindu architecture. Be mindful of your attire and on-site etiquette when entering the temple. For lunch and dinner, you can choose from Fijian and Indian-style meals in town. Day 2 | Coral Coast and Sigatoka Plan a visit to Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park along the Coral Coast. First, go to the visitor information center to check trail conditions, then choose a short or long route based on your stamina. Dune hiking is affected by weather and ground conditions; the park recommends avoiding the hottest part of the afternoon. If trail conditions are unsuitable after rain, shorten your stay and save time for indoor cultural experiences. You can use the Fiji Culture Village as an alternative, and the weekend tapa cloth experience at Sigavou Studios requires advance arrangements. If the weather is suitable and your companions are interested, visit Kula Wild Adventure Park to walk the forest trails and elevated boardwalks. Don't rush by trying to squeeze both the dunes and the park into one day. Stay on the Coral Coast or return to Nadi for the night, depending on your subsequent accommodation and transport connections. Day 3 | Suva Museum and Gardens If your itinerary allows for a connection to Suva, head to Thurston Gardens and the Fiji Museum in the morning. You can see historical collections like canoes and pottery in the museum, which is also a great place to focus on during rainy days. Afterward, have a meal in downtown Suva before departing according to your return arrangements. Land travel between Nadi and Suva requires extra time; if you must depart from Nadi that day, don't force a trip to Suva. It is more practical to spend the third day in Nadi or on the Coral Coast. Before setting off, check the latest notifications regarding attraction opening schedules, trail conditions, and accommodation and transport operators.

That's Fiji Independence Day and it was a good parade. Just enjoying nice cool breeze, beautiful day, beautiful country...

Why Fiji, and why NOW? Fiji just crossed a historic threshold. For the first time ever, annual visitor arrivals surpassed one million — hitting 1,003,233 in the 12 months to June 2026. June alone welcomed 98,522 visitors, the highest ever recorded for that month. Tourism now accounts for an estimated 40% of Fiji’s GDP, making every visitor arrival a national economic event. Australia remains the largest source market, but the United States surged 24.9% year-on-year, and the country is projected to break its all-time record again in 2026. But here's what the algorithm won't tell you: most visitors land in Nadi, transfer straight to a resort in Denarau or the Mamanucas, and never see the highland villages, the hidden Hindu shrines, or the $2 coconuts where Fiji actually breathes. This guide is built for the traveler who wants real value. Save it. You'll use it. 🚌 TRANSPORT: The $18 Bus That Beats Every Resort Transfer The mistake starts at Nadi International Airport. Resort transfers quote FJ18–24 and takes 4 hours. Buses are the cheapest way to move between major towns, and they run frequently on the main island of Viti Levu. The Yasawa Flyer rule. To reach the Yasawa Islands, the Yasawa Flyer catamaran departs from Port Denarau daily. A one-way adult ticket to a Mamanuca island runs FJ220. The Bula Pass hop-on hop-off formula lets you island-hop for 5 to 21 days — not including accommodation, but sometimes including land transfers. The ferry truth. For Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Kadavu, and the Lomaiviti group, mixed passenger-and-cargo ferries are the only way. Suva to Levuka (Ovalau) takes about 3.5 hours and costs FJ50 one-way. These boats are rustic — you'll share space with produce, fuel drums, and occasionally livestock — but they're the real Fiji. 🍲 FOOD: The $2 Coconut That Beats Every Restaurant Fijian food is not fancy. It's kokoda — raw fish cured in lime and coconut cream. It's lovo — meat and root vegetables slow-cooked in an earth oven. And it's fish and chips, Fiji style — fresh mahi-mahi in batter with cassava chips instead of potatoes. At the Nadi Market, grilled fish and coconut rice cost FJ2–5 — the vendor chops off the top with a machete, inserts a straw, and it's ready. The market rule. The best value in Fiji is at a municipal market. A plate of grilled fish with cassava runs FJ5–8. Fish and chips at a local shop — not a Denarau marina restaurant — runs FJ$12–20 for a solid plate. Look for the stall with the longest line of locals in work clothes. That's the one. Must-try, ranked: · Kokoda — raw fish in lime and coconut cream. The national ceviche. FJ$10–18 at a local eatery. · Lovo — earth-oven feast. The ceremonial meal. FJ$15–25 per plate. · Fish and chips, Fiji style — mahi-mahi with cassava chips. FJ$12–20. · Rourou — taro leaves in coconut milk. The everyday side. FJ$5–8. · Fresh coconut — FJ$2–5 from any street vendor. The ultimate hydration. The kava rule. Yaqona (kava) is Fiji's national drink — a mildly narcotic brew made from the powdered root of the pepper plant. It numbs your tongue and teeth. If you're offered a cup, accept it. In a village ceremony, clap once with cupped hands, say "Bula", drink the entire cup in one go, pass it back, and clap three times, saying "Vinaka" (thank you). 🗺️ HIDDEN FIJI: 3 Places Tourists Miss 1. Naag Baba Kuti (Near Nausori) — From the Nausori–Wainibokasi Highway, a quiet turn onto Vuci Road leads away from traffic and into another world. The road winds through thick bamboo groves before revealing one of Fiji's most secluded Hindu sacred sites — Naag Baba Kuti, established during the time of the Girmitiyas, indentured labourers who arrived from India in the 19th century. The complex includes shrines to multiple deities and a Wish Tree. It's not a tourist attraction. It's a living place of worship. Dress modestly. Remove your shoes. Keep your voice low. 2. Dakuinaroba Bamboo Park (Namosi) — Tucked away in the highlands of Namosi, with no cell phone or internet connection, this bamboo park invites visitors to truly disconnect. What was once a wild bamboo forest has been transformed into a breathtaking ecological escape. The Wainilutulevu and Naqara rivers meet here — one cool, one warm — creating a naturally restorative swimming spot. A local guide is compulsory, ensuring both safety and a deeper understanding of the park's cultural significance. Lookout points offer 180-degree views of Namosi's rocky mountains and valleys. 3. Talanoa Treks Highland Escape (Viti Levu) — Fiji's only dedicated hiking company runs an 11-kilometre trek between the remote villages of Naga and Nubutautau, following a narrow pig track and the life-giving Sigatoka River. You'll traverse grasslands, rainforest, and mud, cross rivers by rock-hopping, and hear tales of historic cannibalism. The night is spent in a village community centre, sleeping on the floor, eating a lovo feast, and drinking kava with your hosts. The two-night Highland Escape starts from FJ$1,450 per person, including guides, food, accommodation, and return transfers from Nadi or Suva. Hikes run from May to November. 💰 BUDGET REALITY CHECK Fiji is not cheap by Pacific standards — but it's manageable if you eat at markets and take public buses. · Budget traveler: 192) per day on average — hostel dorms, market food, public buses · Mid-range traveler: 453) per day — private rooms, restaurant meals, occasional taxis · Hostel dorm: 58) per night on average · Kokoda: FJ$10–18 · Fish and chips: FJ$12–20 · Fresh coconut: FJ$2–5 · Bus (Nadi–Suva): FJ$18–24 · Yasawa Flyer (one-way): FJ$140–220 Realistic daily budget: 100 with hostels, market food, and public buses. Mid-range travelers spend around $200 with private rooms and occasional restaurant meals. 🙏 ETIQUETTE: 5 Unspoken Rules That Matter Fiji runs on warmth, community, and the concept of vanua — the inseparable connection between land, people, and tradition. These aren't tourist rules — they're how the country works. 1. Offer a sevusevu when entering a village. If you visit a Fijian village, it's customary to present a small bundle of kava (yaqona) to the chief to seek permission to enter their communal lands and show appreciation for their hospitality. Follow your guide's instructions. Stoop low as you make your way to your allocated spot. 2. Dress modestly. Cover your bare shoulders and legs when visiting a village. Women often wear long skirts or dresses; men opt for T-shirts and knee-length shorts. Wrap a sulu (sarong) around your waist — it can be easily removed when you leave. Don't go topless on beaches outside tourist zones. Don't wear shorts in villages. 3. Remove your hat and sunglasses. As a sign of respect for the chief, remove your hat, sunglasses, and carry your bags in your hands — not on your shoulders — when walking around the village. 4. Never touch anyone's head. The head is considered sacred in Fijian culture. Touching someone's head is deeply disrespectful. Ask before taking photos or wandering into communal areas. 5. Don't visit villages on Sundays. Sundays are sacred. Most village tours don't run. If you're staying in a village homestay, reserve your best attire for the Sunday church service. Even if you're not Christian, the harmonious choir singing is always beautiful. 💾 SAVE THIS POST IF: · You're planning Fiji in 2026 — it just crossed one million annual visitors for the first time. · You want to eat kokoda for under $10 and see Naag Baba Kuti before the crowds find it. · You believe the best travel intel comes from real experience, not recycled top-10 lists. The Fiji Arts Village is a unique attraction. It is not a visitor center in the modern sense, but an open-air museum that recreates the architecture and indigenous customs of ancient Fiji before the 19th century. Location: Located in Pacific Harbour, about 40 km south of Suva, the capital of Fiji. Core features: The main highlight is the all-wood architectural complex. All houses, corridors, and even the fortress are built using traditional wood, leaves, and coconut fiber rope, without a single iron nail, creating a rich, traditional Fijian atmosphere. Thatched huts and colorful houses: The residences and shops in the park are thatched huts built in the ancient tradition from before the 18th century. Although the roofs are made of rustic leaves, the walls and decorations are often colorful. The woven grass curtains and painted wood carvings, in particular, look exceptionally vibrant and photogenic in the sunlight. Ancient street market: This area simulates the scene when the first immigrants arrived during the Victorian era. The shops and stalls along the street have a distinct ancient style, where you can buy various handicrafts, wood carvings, pearl necklaces, and shell products. Fortress: This is the most eye-catching building in the center. It was built according to the defensive fortifications used by ancient Fijians to resist foreign invaders. The wooden fences around the walls are equipped with ancient spears, which is quite spectacular. 🛶 Highlights and tips Canoe cruise: We highly recommend taking a canoe cruise through the canals and lagoons of Pacific Harbour. Viewing the thatched huts and the daily life of the residents from the water feels like traveling back to ancient Fiji before the 18th century. Overlook: There is a hill in front of the center. Climbing it offers a panoramic view of the entire ancient culture center, making it an excellent spot for photos. There is also an open-air restaurant on the hill where you can enjoy a meal while taking in the view. Folk performances: After dark, there are usually cultural performances rich in ethnic color, including traditional song and dance. Sometimes you can even see the magical "fire walking" folk art. Admission: According to the latest information, admission to this attraction is free. Opening hours: Usually open all day, but some facilities or performances may have specific times (e.g., 9:00 AM–5:00 PM). It is recommended to check the on-site announcements. Recommended duration: We suggest setting aside about 1 hour to explore at a leisurely pace. With its colorful houses, thatched huts, and Fijian style, the Fiji Arts Village is not only a cultural landmark of Fiji but also an excellent place to immerse yourself in the customs of this ancient island nation.

When visiting Suva, if you want to stay in a hotel with a real "Fijian flavor," I would choose the Grand Pacific Hotel. It’s not just any five-star hotel. Opened in 1914, it has a history spanning over a century and has hosted royalty, dignitaries, and many historical figures. After a major renovation, it reopened in 2014, preserving its original colonial architectural charm while integrating modern amenities. (Grand Pacific Hotel) After my stay, what I loved most wasn’t how luxurious the room was, but the sense of history that comes with staying here. The hotel is situated right by Suva Harbour, facing Albert Park. Whether walking into the lobby, sitting on the terrace, or simply looking out from your room, it’s easy to feel the deep connection between this hotel and the city of Suva. 🛏️ Rooms The rooms were much larger than I expected. If you choose a room in the Heritage Building, you can really feel the hotel's original character—high ceilings, large double doors, and wide balconies that preserve the layout of the early hotel era. (Grand Pacific Hotel) My room also came with complimentary Fiji-branded bottled water, which was replenished without limit. If your budget allows, I highly recommend choosing a sea-view room. Waking up to Suva Harbour in the morning and watching the port light up at night provides a view that's hard to find in a standard city hotel. 🏊 The Hotel Experience With a pool, gym, spa, bar, and restaurant, the overall facilities are very comprehensive for Suva. However, I think the biggest plus was the service. The staff were incredibly friendly and always willing to help with any issues; whether you need to exchange currency or call a taxi, you can ask the hotel directly. Plus, its location on the downtown waterfront makes it very convenient to visit the Fiji Museum, Albert Park, and government buildings. 🏛️ The Most Interesting Part: Its History The Grand Pacific Hotel has hosted members of the Royal Family, including Queen Elizabeth II. In 1928, Australian aviator Charles Kingsford Smith flew the "Southern Cross" to Suva, landing the plane in Albert Park right across from the hotel. He and his crew then stayed at the hotel. (Grand Pacific Hotel) So, standing on the hotel terrace and looking out over Albert Park and Suva Harbour, you realize this isn't just a hotel. It is a piece of Suva's history itself. If you're coming to Suva, I recommend staying at the Grand Pacific Hotel if your budget allows. Not because it’s the most luxurious resort in Fiji—it’s not that kind of place at all. But because in a city defined by government, history, and local life, staying in a luxury hotel with over a century of history is an experience in itself. 📍 Grand Pacific Hotel | Suva, Fiji 🇫🇯 🏨 584–628 Victoria Parade, Suva 🏛️ Opened in 1914 | Over a century of history 🌊 Suva Harbour Sea View ⭐ Personal Recommendation: If visiting Suva, it’s worth a stay; especially recommended for the Heritage Building / Sea View rooms.

Before coming to Suva, I never really thought of it as a "tourist destination." What draws visitors to Fiji is usually the islands, luxury resorts, and white sandy beaches against clear blue skies. By comparison, the capital city of Suva doesn't have a long list of must-visit attractions. But as I wandered through downtown this time, I began to truly understand the famous "Fiji Time." It’s not about rushing to get things done; it’s about realizing that life itself can just slow down a little. Watching locals shop for groceries at the market, sitting in the park for a while, and stepping into the museum to learn about this island nation's history. No packed itineraries, and no sights you absolutely have to "check off." On this trip to Suva, I wasn't looking for Fiji's most glamorous side. I wanted to see how Fijians live their everyday lives. Taking a City Walk from the Local Market to Albert Park and finally to the Fiji Museum, my goal was simple: to see how a city in a Pacific island nation actually operates on a normal day. 🥭 Suva Municipal Market The market was definitely my favorite stop. Walking in, you don't see souvenir stalls targeting tourists. Instead, you find real locals buying their daily veggies and fruits. With stalls overflowing with tropical fruits, vegetables, and root crops, the market is full of everyday life. For me, exploring a local market is always one of the fastest ways to get a feel for a new place. You get to see exactly what the locals eat, what they buy, and how the city wakes up and runs every day. 🌳 Albert Park I walked all the way from the market to Albert Park. This is a major urban green space in Suva, surrounded by quite a few colonial-era buildings. Sitting in the park and watching locals pass by offers a completely different vibe from the bustling market. My impression of Suva was slowly pieced together in these places where the old and the new intersect. 🏛️ Fiji Museum My final stop was the Fiji Museum. Located right next to Albert Park, the museum isn't huge, but it's incredibly helpful for understanding Fiji. From indigenous culture and traditional lifestyles to colonial history and Fiji's connections with other Pacific islands, you can find traces of it all here. Visiting the museum right after exploring the market made the experience feel much more multi-dimensional. The market showed me the "Fiji of today," while the museum gently filled in the blanks of the "Fiji of the past." During this Suva City Walk, I didn't care about how many sights I crossed off my list. Instead, I found that combining the market, the park, and the museum gave me the perfect mix of perspectives to understand the city. The market shows the lifestyle, the park reveals the city's vibe, and the museum tells its history. If you ever visit Suva, I highly recommend not just treating it as a layover to other islands. Spare half a day to explore the city center. Seeing how the locals live will probably give you a much deeper understanding of this South Pacific city than simply ticking off a few tourist spots.
