Arad County Library / Arad City Library
On the first floor of the Art Museum building is the headquarters of the Arad County Library.
The County Library of Arad is the successor of the City Library of Arad founded in 1881 by the Kolcsey Association. The first public libraries appeared in Arad as early as 1850 - one at the Hotel Crucea Albă (Feher Kereszt) with a book collection of 30,000 volumes and another on Deak Ferenc Street (today Mihai Eminescu) with a book collection of 90,000 volumes. The County Library of Arad moved to its present location in 1981. The building was built in 1909 according to the design of the architects Reisinger Sandor & Fodor Zsigmond and originally housed the headquarters of the Agricultural Chamber of Arad.
The County Library of Arad has today a book collection of more than 500,000 volumes of which 22,000 books belong to the special collections , more than 600 manuscripts and 23 incunabula. We recommend 5 books in English and 5 books in Italian from which you can learn the history of Arad. Although they are written in an accessible language, they are nevertheless works of a scientific nature and contain numerous details, many of them published for the first time (all available on Google Books/Google Play and on Amazon-in print):
