Pandas are not only in Chengdu, but also in Aba, the real home of Panda.
The panda base there is smaller than the big Chengdu one, but it's within the nature! Beautiful, calm and less people!

First Autumn-Snow Hike in Majiagou
Majiagou is a beautiful valley in Aba, Sichuan province. It's a 5 hours drive from Chengdu, about 70% of the way is highway.
It's a wonderful place for hiking and natural scenery. You can hike a few km into the valley or do a bigger two days hike, both is possible!
🚘 Drive about 5 hours from Chengdu. No public transport.
🎟️ There is a tourist center, where you can park 🅿️ and buy the entrance ticket, which is 50-100 RMB, depending on the season.

Hiking at Xuema Mountain
You want to go hiking in Sichuan with less people and beautiful scenery? This is the under valley of Xuema Mountain in Aba Prefecture, Sichuan.
It's a wonderful hidden valley in the mountains of West-Sichuan.
🚘 The only way to get to Xuema Valley is by car. From Chengdu, it's about 5-6 hours. Navigate to 雪马山 and you will arrive at this beautiful piece of nature.
🎟️ No entrance fee for the scenic area.
🥾 The hike is not that hard, because it's a valley. Nevertheless, Xuema is on over 3500m altitude all the time, so stay hydrated!

Wonderful Colours of Autumn
Another week, another hike!
This hike takes us to Laoya mountain (老鸦山 in Chinese) and is inside the Wolong Natural Reserve.
In October and November the leaves turn red and yellow and it becomes a magical paradise for hiking.
🎟️ No ticket required, you might ask locals for the way tough.
🎃 Locals sold some pumpkins on the way! Why not cook a pumpkin soup at home?

So many cute Pandas!
Besides the Panda base in Chengdu, this spot is another great option to learn about the Pandas! The Wolong Giant Panda base is in a very nice and green environment inside the mountains and less known than the Chengdu one. Next to it are also some hiking routes.
Just a 90 minutes to two hours drive from Downtown Chengdu, it's still in a reachable distance.
🐼 There are more than 50 Pandas in the station! Also, there is a nice museum!
🎟️ Tickets are about 80RMB per person.

Refreshing Hike at Dengsheng Valley
Dengshenggou or Dengsheng Valley is a wonderful valley inside the Aba Wenchuan Panda Natural Reserve. If you're lucky, you can see wild animals!
Inside the Valley there is a big and a small circle to hike, the big circle is also doable in 3-5 hours, the small circle is faster.
🎟️ The first time I went it was 30RMB per person, last time it was for free
🚗 There is parking available, busses to Mount Siguniang also go through there...

This Mountain-Peak is 6250m High!
The peak in the first picture is 6250m above sea level and you can reach this viewpoint it after a 2,5 hours drive from Sichuan's capital Chengdu. It's the peak of Siguniang Mountain in Aba Prefecture, Sichuan.
📍How to get here?
The hike starts on Shizhao Mountain Pass and is a challenging one with 1600m altitude difference. Location for parking: 石召垭口. Better start before 10am in the morning, so you can get back during daylight. If you're a beginner, better search for a guide and enjoy the hike!

Alpine Spring-Hike in West-Sichuan
Wechuan in Sichuan's Aba-Prefecture is a paradise for hiking during all seasons. 🥾⛺🏔️
This hike is at Shizhao mountain pass, halfway from Chengdu to Siguniang Mountain. Chinese name for navigation on your map is "石召垭口". It's about three hours maximum from Chengdu.
The area is on an altitude of about 2500-3800m, depending how far you hike. Parking is available, a small environment protection fee is to pay, no entrance ticket.

Hiking from Balang Mountain Pass
If you take the Panda National Road from Chengdu to West-Sichuans Aba, you will cross Balang Mountain Pass. From there, you can easy start a hike to Balang Mountain. There is no fixed way to hike, you can choose whatever way you like.
Great nature, great hike!
🗻 The hike ends on 4500m, which is quite high, so better start slow and stop if you're out of breath. If you're tired, go back to your car. Safety first!

The Top Of Balang Mountain
This year was the year I found a new hobby: Mountain Hiking! And one of my favorite hikes definitely was Balang Mountain in Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province.
🏔️ The hike is actually not that hard, it's only 3-4km for one way. But: It's on high altitude hight (3900-4500m), so it's not easy to hike. Better start slowly and know your limit... Most important: Enjoy the hike!
📍 From Chengdu it's a 3,5 hour drive to Balang mountain. For navigation, here is the Chinese name: 巴朗山. Parking is available. No entrance ticket necessary.
For 2023 I hope to hike more mountains and I hope all our wishes come true!

Hiking Haierdang in Sichuan's Aba
Haierdang is a 4500m high mountain in Sichuan's Aba prefecture. The mountain is not very difficult to hike, but the altitute is very high, so it's still tiring!
📍 Chinese name for navigation: 汶川海尔凼
From Chengdu it's more or less 3,5 hours till the parking spot of Haierdang.
If you can't make it, you don't have to finish the hike till the end. BTW: It's better to stay there one night before to get used to the altitute.
🎟️ Haierdang has no entrance ticket.

Mountain Pass Peak in Sichuan's Aba
If you drive from Chengdu/Dujiangyan to Siguniang Mountain, you will come across one very high mountain pass, that reaches about 4000m above sea level. 🏔️
There is a parking spot with snacks. Local sellers sell Tibetan handcraft, praying flags and you have many picture opportunities to catch the mountainous landscape. Sometimes you can even ride a horse with local Tibetans.
📍 It's on the S303 (Provincial road 303), about 20-30km before Siguniang town.
🅿️ Parking is free. First comes, first served.

Blue-Greenish Lake in Mounigou Valley
In Songpan (Aba Prefecture), Sichuan province, there is this nice lake inside Mounigou valley. 🏞️
It's a scenic area, where you can walk around and enjoy the nature. One day is enough, start in the morning and finish in the afternoon. There are some nice routes and you can choose between a short and a long route.
🚗 It's exactly 300km from Chengdu, it takes you about 6hours to arrive at Mounigou. In summer busses are available from Chengdu.
🕜 Open from 8am to 5pm, you can stay a little longer if you're already inside.

Shuangqiao Valley in Aba
Shuangqiao Valley is one of the valleys in Aba, West-Sichuan, where you can see the Siguniang mountain. On the way you can see forrests, small temples and a lake with trees in it.
From the three valleys there it's the one with the most infrastructure, so it's good for family trips or if you can't walk for long distances.
🚍 From the entrance (10km South from Siguniang village), you can take the tourist bus (Hop on-hop off) from scenic spot to the next. If you don't want or can, you don't have to walk at all, which is not possible in the other valleys.

Sichuans Stunning 'Four Girls Mountain'
Siguniang mountain or the wonderful translation 'Four Girls Mountain' xomprises four snowcapped mountains which are favorites for climbers and hikers. One popular visit route of hikers is often from Changping Valley to Bipeng Valley, which is well-known for various sceneries, especially precious plants and animals. Besides that valley, there are two other valleys, that are quite easy to walk... 🏞️
If valleys aren't your thing, experienced hikers can also climb all the four peaks. Peak 3 and 4 are quite doable and reach almost 5000m. Book a guide for the 3 day hiking tour. Peak 2 and 1 are very difficult, only around 15 people ever made it to Peak 1 (over 6000m), the last one was in 2017... So better skip that plan...

Changping Valley - Sichuans wonderful 'Alps'
Of course the Alps are the Alps, and Sichuan in Sichuan, but still: Nature and fauna looks a little similar. Changping valley is one of the three scenic valleys around Siguniang mountain (Four girls mountain) in Aba. 🏔️🏞️
From Chengdu, it's a four hours ride up the Tibet-Qinghai-Plateau. Wonderful drive, just avoid public holidays to enjoy the calm nature.
🎫 Entrance to the Changping valley is 80 RMB. You take a short bus drive and from there you can start your walk. The first 8km is on a wooden path, later it gets more wild. We walked 20km more or less, you can also sleep inside with a tent ⛺, but need to register in advance.

Dengsheng Panda Valley in Aba (Sichuan)
Dengshenggou (Dengsheng Valley 🏞️) is located in the Wolong Nature Reserve, on the edge of the western Sichuan plateau. Forests and alpine meadows are paradise for the national treasure giant pandas 🐼, some wild pandas life in the area, although you won't see them. Dengsheng Valley entrance is on 2800 meters above sea level.
🎫 Dengshenggou is still undeveloped, there are no tickets but there is an environmental protection fee of 30 yuan per person if you want to go in. Here is more quiet than other touristic parks in Aba.
🚗 You can only reach the valley-park by car, it's on the 'China panda road' in West-Sichuan, enter '邓生沟' in your navigation system.

Beautiful Mountain Lake in West-Sichuan
The lake is close to Mount Siguniang, or called Siguniangshan or Four Sisters Mountain in English, is located in the Aba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan.
The lake is the third of about five stop on the tourist bus to the mountain. 🚌 It's very easy to walk around the lake, there is a pathway and you can see the trees growing inside the water. To walk around the lake takes around 1 hour.
🎫 Ticket to the mountain valley is around 150 RMB and includes ticket and hop on - hop of bus between the attractions. From Chengdu it's a 4-6 hour drive or bus ride to the village 'Siguniangshan' closeby.
