The Algarve - Portugal’s hidden gem
The southern coast of Portugal is often overlooked when people plan a summer holiday. But with sublime rocky coastlines, gorgeous terracotta beaches and waves great for surfing - you’re really missing out on an all round great experience.
The locals are really friendly, and depending on where you choose to go, it’s got some great places for every budget.
Getting There - there are flights into the main airport FARO (Fao) from most major UK airports and some small ones too - and if you book at the right time you can get super cheap flights with budget airlines too!
Attractions - there are family water parks & sea life centre, golf, wine tasting, watersports, boat trips and much more!
Hotels - a great range of hotels for different budgets, also some great 4*+ hotels within golf resorts along the coast - including a Four Seasons.
Food & Restaurants - many different cuisines, lots of Pan Asian, Sushi, Indian, Italian and traditional Portuguese. And if you like fish, trust me, you will want to eat plenty of the fresh local fish while you’re there! Also try the traditional Portuguese “Pasties de nata” custard tarts.
Shopping - lots of shopping malls around, with well known high street European brands (Pull & Bear, H&M, Stradivarius etc.) as well as special designer stores and a large outlet mall near Almancil. #portugal #algarve #summervacation
Spectacular coastline in Algarve
The Algarve is the southern part of Portugal with amazing beaches , caves and rock formations. There are many small cities dotted along the coastline with great hotels and restaurants. It is about 2.5 hours drive from Lisbon and makes it a popular weekend and summer destination. #portugal #algarve #summerholiday
The Benagil Cave
There are plenty of ways to reach the cave.
I started off at the Benagil beach and reached the cave by kayak. It is pretty close and it took me 5 mins to arrive at the cave.
I am so amazed by the beauty of the nature. #benagil #algarve
Mediterranean cuisine in Algarve
If you spend an evening in Algarve, Portugal you’d better enjoy the local Mediterranean cuisine.
To me Algarve in general is not a very interesting destination as it’s crowded with tourists and kind of hiding the local cultural features out from the sight.
But I’d say restaurant Rafael makes a little difference. It’s a place where locals also like to go. The chef is dedicated in making high quality food using good ingredients. You can meet locals and people who live in the region at those tables.
The restaurant is located in Vilamoura. The address is: Avenide Tivoli, Lote H5, 8125-410 Vilamora.

Algarve’s Winter: Family Time in Loule
After delightful times in Vietnam and Bangkok, our family journey took us to the Algarve, southern Portugal, with Loulé as our chosen destination. We wanted to experience winter in southern Portugal and see what our favorite summer spot looks like in a different season🏞️.
We stayed in a super nice Airbnb owned by a German lady named Ulrike. Her hospitality and the comfort of her home made our journey even more perfect. Winter here is unbelievably warm and spring-like.
Loulé and the Algarve region are charming both in summer and winter. During the winter, we enjoyed the quieter beaches, explored ancient towns without the summer crowds, and experienced Algarve in a different season.
This trip not only allowed us to appreciate the beauty of Loulé but also to immerse ourselves deeper into the local lifestyle. Little Sienna also found many new discoveries and fun here, creating beautiful memories that will last us a long time.
Do you have places you wish to visit in winter? Or any special travel destinations to recommend? Feel free to share your stories!

Lagos, Portugal in winter.
Lovely português town, with a little bit of everything but beach town vibes. Colors for sunset, moonrise, and sunrise in winter are beautiful. #lagos#algarve #portugal
