Stylish Royal Park Hotel in Kurashiki
#freehotelstay
The Royal Park Hotel is located in the center of Kurashiki and just less than 10 minutes walk from the Kurashiki Bikan Hostorical Center.
The exterior of the hotel and the lobby very much followed the industrial design, with a lot of glass windows to bring ín natural lights. The lobby was cool and inviting - aside from the check in desk, there was also a bar by the entrance. Guests could get three free drinks ( although not a big glass) from the self service bar.
Check in could be done via the front desk , or at the self service machine. There was also a pool table for guest use in the lobby.
The rooms were new and clean, and cushions in the room used fabric that were made in Kurashiki. Bathroom was in decent size, and each room also had a free cosmetic pouch with beauty product samples for the guests. Breakfast had a good selection and was served on the top floor which commanded a panoramic view of the city.
Parking was available but on a first come first serve basis, with a fee. Overall we were very pleased with this hotel and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Kurashiki.

Travel back in time - Kurashiki Bikan Quarter
#summerbreak
The Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter is in the center of Kurashiki- Okayama Prefecture in Japan. It is about 10 minutes walk from the Kurashiki train station and is less than 1 hour from Okayama by car.
The historical quarter is known for the white washed wall houses and willow trees than lined the Kurashiki River- dating from the Edo period ( 1603-1876). Many of the houses were previously warehouses and now converted to become shops, restaurants, and cafes. As Kurashiki is also considered as the birthplace of Japanese denim, it is worthwhile to stroll through the many boutiques that offer the wide collection of the district’s indigo products.
Another highlight was the Ohara Museum which was Japan’s first museum of western art - including works by Monet, Toulouse- Lautrec amongst others.
The walk along the canal is beautiful both day and night. The gentle wind, flowing willow and sound of the canal brought feelings from the past. There are also rickshaws and boat rides for visitors to have fun on a clear day. Definitely a good place to spend a day while in Okayama.
