📌 Tain, Scotland (Scottish Highlands) ⭐ This beautiful Royal burgh (a bit like a town) is Tain. It's one of my favourite places in Scotland and is easily accessible from Inverness. Here's how you can do an afternoon in this breathtaking area. 🌉 Starting at the railway station I walked towards the Alexandra bridge, affectionately known as the Shaky Bridge. It can only permit 2 people walking across at the same time due to it's age and the fact that it's suspended and wobbles as you walk over! Very unique. 🌊 The bridge carries you over the estuary and you'll then be on the beach. It's simply beautiful - the only noise you'll get is the wildlife and the waves coming in or going out. 🌲 Walk as far as you like - if you walk far enough you'll even reach the forest. ⛳ I took a turn and weaved back through the golf course over old wooden bridges and down the peaceful country lane. 🍻 Arriving back into the village I headed to one of the local pubs for food before going back to the station. The Burgh has a large shop, a number of local independent cafes and gift shops and pubs. The local cuisine, dominated by hearty stews and freshly caught seafood, was a delightful surprise. For adventure enthusiasts, hiking Ben Nevis, the UK's highest peak, is a must. To capture the magic of the Highlands, we opted for a scenic train journey on the Jacobite Steam Train, famously known as the Hogwarts Express. Practical tip: Pack layers!
