Tarama Island between Miyako and Ishigaki
Miyakojima and Ishigakijima are the most popular islands in Okinawa, but Taramajima is also recommended.
It takes about 20 minutes by plane from Miyakojima and 2 hours by ferry to get there.
The island is mainly for activities like diving, but it has a peaceful atmosphere with few people, so it's perfect for people who like to do nothing but relax.
At night, you can enjoy a beautiful starry sky where you can see the Milky Way.
I stayed at a village-run accommodation, and it was a bargain at 6,800 yen for one night with two meals for rent!
If you book your flight early, it's about 5,000 yen from Miyakojima.
Please go and check it out.

[Ishigaki Island, Okinawa] Hirakubosaki: The northernmost dazzling landmark, overlooking a 360-degree gradient of blue sea and a snow-white lighthouse.
✨ Attraction Highlights
Located at the northernmost tip of Ishigaki Island, Hiragusaki Lighthouse is the island's most iconic natural landmark. A pure white seaside lighthouse stands here, surrounded by verdant hills and the azure sea. The observation deck offers a nearly 360-degree panoramic view, showcasing the most layered blue seascape of the Yaeyama Islands.
Must-Visit Highlights and Scenic Wonders:
Pure White Hiragusaki Lighthouse: The white lighthouse stands atop a prominent green headland, creating a striking contrast with the blue sky and sea. It has been selected as one of the "50 Best Lighthouses in Japan" and is a top choice for countless photographers to capture the ultimate beauty of Ishigaki Island.
Stunning "Ishigaki Blue" Gradual Seascape: Looking down from the observation deck, the sea surface displays a rich gradient of colors from light green and Tiffany blue to deep blue due to the coral reefs and undulating terrain. The water is crystal clear.
Unobstructed 360-degree panoramic view: The observation deck offers excellent views, stretching east to the Pacific Ocean and west to the East China Sea. On clear days, you can even faintly see Tarama Island in the distance.
A romantic spot (Love Lighthouse): Hiragusaki Lighthouse is recognized as a "Love Lighthouse," attracting many couples to make wishes and take photos amidst its romantic seascape.
🚗 Transportation: Hiragusaki is located at the northernmost tip of Ishigaki Island, quite far from the city center. Driving is highly recommended:
Car rental (most recommended):
Set your navigation to "Hirakubosaki Lighthouse." The drive from "New Ishigaki Airport" is approximately 40-45 minutes; from "Ishigaki Port Outlying Island Transfer Station" or the city center, it's approximately 60 minutes. A small free parking lot and public restrooms are available at the entrance.
By Bus (Limited Service):
Take the East Kotsu Bus (Hirano Line/System 6) from Ishigaki Port Transfer Station to the "Hirano" bus stop, then walk approximately 15-20 minutes uphill to the lighthouse. Due to the extremely limited service, please check the timetable before boarding.
📝 Experience Summary: Hiragusaki boasts the most breathtaking and pristine natural scenery on Ishigaki Island. Driving along the northern coastal highway, the scenery is delightful. Reaching the cape and seeing the white lighthouse blending with the gradient blue sea instantly washes away all the fatigue of the journey. Whether you want to capture stunning ocean views, breathe in the sea breeze for a tranquil experience, or plan a tour around Ishigaki Island, Hiragusaki is an absolute must-see landmark.

A serene island where time flows slowly—Discovering the luxury of 'nothingness' on Tarama Island
Tarama Island, located between Miyako Island and Ishigaki Island, is a small remote island that has been selected as one of Japan's most beautiful villages. Its charm lies in its tranquility, untouched by over-tourism, and its pristine white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters. At Maedomari Beach, you can enjoy breathtaking views that resemble a painting. The entire island is enveloped in a relaxed atmosphere, with sugarcane fields and traditional red-tiled houses preserving the original Okinawan landscape. The traditional performing art 'August Dance' is designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan, offering a rare cultural experience that reflects the island's pride and history. Perfect for those seeking 'healing' rather than sightseeing, this is an island where your soul can find peace.

Yaeyama Tomi Park | Spring romance in the shadows
#Okinawa Sakura
The breath of spring spreads in Yaeyama Vision Park. The cherry trees bloom like clouds, and the fragrance is overflowing, always attracting a large number of tourists. The crowds of people are weaving, and the crowds of cherry blossoms are admiring the cherry blossoms under the trees, and the sound of laughter is intertwined, as if at this moment, all the troubles are swallowed up by the shadows of the trees. The petals fall with the wind, like pink snowflakes, adding a bit of romantic atmosphere to this beautiful place.
Standing on the top of the hill, overlooking the scenery of the entire city, the scene in front of you is amazing. The city outline is bright, and the buildings in the sun are shining with golden light.
The greenness of the mountains and the beauty of the flowers are intertwined, as if it is a picture of the perfect fusion of nature and the city. Every corner here is full of vitality, making people want to stop and savor it carefully.

[Okinawa, Tarama Island] A village where the original Okinawan scenery remains🌿
Tarama Island is a flat, circular island located right in the middle of Miyako Island and Ishigaki Island.
JAL Group's regular flights operate from Miyako Airport, and boats also depart from Miyako Island's Hirara Port except on Sundays.
There are no outstanding tourist attractions, and it is simply peaceful.
That is the charm of Tarama Island☝️
There is only one settlement, and there is a town hall, elementary school, junior high school,
a post office, a police box, and two supermarkets.
I cycled almost the entire island, but there is little shade, and it is very hot in the summer, so don't forget to stay hydrated💦
On Tarama Island, the paths leading to the sea are called tuburis, and it would be nice to tour the many tuburis on the island!
There are also sacred places typical of Okinawa, such as Shiokawa Utaki and Unjo Utaki, and the Fukugi trees that act as a protective forest create a wonderful atmosphere.
If you want to see the whole island, head to the tower at Yaeyama Tomidai Park 🖐️
You can enjoy the serene island scenery that spreads out in 360 degrees.
Tarama is a deep island that is also written as "ri°" due to its unique pronunciation. Since not many tourists visit, you can enjoy the original world of Okinawa. ✨
* Tarama Village is the only village in Okinawa Prefecture that is a member of the Most Beautiful Villages in Japan Union.
