Tian'e travel guide and discussion

For this trip to Guangxi, I followed Trip.com's recommendation and chose this 6-day small group tour. I was a bit worried about potential awkwardness when joining a group, but that turned out to be a complete misjudgment! 🙌 Starting from Nanning, we visited Chongzuo, Detian Waterfall, Tongling Grand Canyon, Bama, Sanmenhai, Hechi, and the super popular Blue Knife Fish Storm Corner. Over the 4-day loop, I was amazed by different landscapes and tempted by different local delicacies every day 🍜. The magnificence of Detian Waterfall, the depth of Tongling Grand Canyon, and the crystal-clear, glowing blue waters of Sanmenhai left me—a southerner—in constant awe. Of course, the biggest surprise of the trip was our 6-person team. We had a talkative and funny girl from Suzhou who kept the mood light and the laughter constant. There was also a guy from Shanghai who loved photography and had a full set of gear—he became my personal photographer, capturing stunning shots with ease 📸. Add in our humorous and professional driver-guide, and the whole trip felt like traveling with old friends. Sightseeing, exploring caves, and having water fights—the whole journey was filled with laughter, and I didn't feel tired at all. A few small tips for friends planning to visit Guangxi: meeting great travel companions really enhances the trip, but choosing the right route is just as important. This route connects all the highlights, and the pace was just right—not too rushed, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and take photos. As for food, be bold and try the local specialties; following the driver-guide's recommendations is always a safe bet. In short, this trip exceeded all my expectations. I will definitely be back in Guangxi! 🤍

October and November in Hechi offer crisp autumn air, picturesque karst peaks, and the shimmering waters of the Hongshui River, with temperatures just right. But I must tell you frankly—if you don't do your research, this trip will truly make you question your life choices! As someone who's been to Hechi three times and encountered countless disappointments, today I'm sharing all my hard-earned tips, so ladies, just copy my advice! ⚠️ 【Why October and November might be a nightmare】Let me give you a heads-up first Don't rush to accuse me of clickbait; you'll understand after I explain 👇 Pitfall 1: The distances between scenic spots are unbelievably long. Hechi's attractions are scattered across various counties. Driving between Bama, Fengshan, Du'an, Nandan, and Tian'e can easily take 1-2 hours, and the entire route is along winding mountain roads with many curves and steep inclines, leaving you with a sore back. Without a car, waiting and transferring can waste half a day. Pitfall 2: The weather looks cool, but the mountain roads are incredibly slippery. Although October and November are crisp and clear, the temperature difference between day and night in the mountains is significant. After an occasional autumn rain, the mountain roads around Qibainong and the Tiankeng area become extremely slippery. Drivers must strictly control their speed, and overtaking on curves is out of the question. Pitfall 3: Holiday overcrowding. Early October coincides with the National Day holiday, leading to a surge in visitors to popular scenic spots like Sanmenhai Scenic Area, Luocheng Mianhua Tiankeng, and Nandan Yaowangtianxia. Without advance reservations, you might not even be able to get in. Pitfall 4: Never venture into undeveloped areas. Some places, like the Fengshan Jiangzhou Underground Corridor, look beautiful, but they are completely undeveloped and open to the public. Exploring caves without permission is illegal and unsafe. However! If you plan well, avoid peak seasons, and choose the right route, Hechi in October and November is an absolute treasure trove. Here's my guide to avoiding the pitfalls 👇 🚗 [Regarding Transportation and Accommodation] Take my advice! You'll regret not driving! 🚄 Buy a high-speed train ticket directly to "Hechi West Station"! Less than an hour from Nanning, second-class seats start at 122 yuan. Car rentals are available right outside the station; it's recommended to book in advance on a travel website like Ctrip, as on-site rentals may be unavailable or cost double. 🚗 Driving or hiring a car is highly recommended! Hechi's attractions are scattered across various counties. Independent travel allows you to control your own pace, leisurely boating, cave exploration, and immersing yourself in the Zhuang and Yao ethnic culture – the most comfortable way to unlock this hidden gem. Hiring a car costs approximately 400-500 yuan per day; it's more cost-effective to share with others. 🏠 Accommodation Options: · Bama: I recommend guesthouses near Jiazhuan Town; the view from the window is like a landscape painting. One guesthouse manager will turn on the heater and air conditioning before you arrive, making it warm and inviting upon entry. The location is also very close to Bama Hot Springs. · Luocheng: I recommend the Shanshui Courtyard in the Yayi Scenic Area. This guesthouse has only four rooms, ensuring maximum privacy. The rooms are converted from old village houses and feature smart toilets, bathtubs, Bluetooth speakers, and heating in winter. · Nandan: For a more unique stay, choose a guesthouse near the Dongtian Wine Sea Scenic Area. After visiting the scenic area, you can also check out the Cliffside Bookstore. ⚠️Avoid these pitfalls: Although October and November aren't peak season, weekend accommodations are still in high demand, so book in advance. Don't believe those "find a place when you arrive" guides; signal is poor in the mountains, and searching for accommodation at the last minute will drive you crazy. 🗺️【Pamper-Friendly Itinerary Planning】5-Day Loop, No Backtracking Day 1️⃣: Arrive in Hechi ➡️ Jinchengjiang ➡️ Hechi Lesser Three Gorges Take the high-speed train to Hechi West Station. Rent a car and head to Jinchengjiang for a bowl of rice noodles to replenish your energy. Then head straight to the Hechi Lesser Three Gorges for a 1.5-hour boat ride. The karst peaks on both banks are reflected in the clear water; every snapshot is wallpaper-worthy. Day 2️⃣: Bama ➡️ Baimo Cave ➡️ Longevity Village Drive from Jinchengjiang to Bama (approximately 2 hours). Baimo Cave is Bama's signature attraction, with spectacular stalactites. The cave has a strong geomagnetic field and high levels of negative oxygen ions. The entrance fee is about 70 yuan. The temperature inside the cave is consistently 18 degrees Celsius, so remember to bring a jacket. In the afternoon, visit the Longevity Village to experience the local leisurely longevity culture. Overnight stay in a guesthouse in Jiazhuan Town. Day 3️⃣: Fengshan ➡️ Sanmenhai ➡️ Shegeng Cave The journey from Bama to Fengshan takes about 1 hour. The water at Sanmenhai is a vibrant green, like jelly. Taking a small boat directly into the skylights of the underground river creates a breathtaking interplay of light and shadow that photos simply can't capture. To photograph the famous Tyndall effect, try to schedule your boat trip between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. For those few minutes when the light slants down from the cave entrance, everyone on board will hold their breath. Day 4️⃣: Du'an ➡️ Underground River Skylight Cluster ➡️ Fengtang Village Cloud Sea Viewing Platform The underground river skylight cluster in Du'an boasts crystal-clear water, a hidden gem for diving enthusiasts. In the evening, head to Fengtang Village in Banling Township. This is a free spot for taking photos of the sea of clouds, sunrise, sunset, and starry sky all at once. Entrance and parking are free. Day 5️⃣: Nandan ➡️ Dongtian Shengjing (Cave Heaven Scenic Area) ➡️ Cliffside Bookstore ➡️ Return Trip Visit Nandan Dongtian Shengjing before it becomes too popular! No need to queue for photos, every shot is a masterpiece. The cave and lake views are breathtaking; wearing white or bright colors will make for stunning photos. The adjacent Cliffside Bookstore is also worth checking out; the giant rock wall with books creates a fantastic atmosphere, and the viewing platform offers unobstructed views. 🍜 【Food Recommendation】6 Yuan Rice Noodles, Eat Until You're Stuffed! The prices in Hechi are unbelievably low; a bowl of noodles costs only 6 yuan and you'll be full. 🍜 Must-Try Noodles: · Jinchengjiang Boiled Rice Noodles: Guangxi noodles are known for their thin, translucent, smooth, and crisp texture, with a delicious broth. A bowl of these for breakfast will give you a boost of energy. · Du'an Raw Rice Noodles: The slightly sour rice noodles are appetizing, topped with minced meat and peanuts for a rich and layered flavor. · Yizhou Cold Rice Noodles: Every strand of rice noodle is coated in a rich, sweet and sour tomato sauce. Be sure to try it at a local small shop. 🥩 Must-Try Main Dishes: · Fruit Jam Barbecue: A legend in Hechi's barbecue scene. The fruit jam brushed on the grilled meat creates a sweet and spicy flavor that's addictive. · Hongshui River Fish: The Hongshui River fish from Dahua has firm flesh. Whether steamed or made into a sour soup, it's incredibly fresh. · Longbang (Blood Sausage): A specialty of Zhuang villages. The blood sausage is piping hot and has a lingering flavor. Locals call it "Longbeng," a must-try. 🥟 Don't Miss the Snacks: Tofu balls, fried skewers, hemp leaf buns, pickled vegetables, Mulam white cake, Maonan "five-spice"... I want to recommend everything in the market. ⚠️ Avoid: Don't eat at the entrance of tourist attractions! The prices are double, and the taste is mediocre. To truly experience the flavors of Hechi, head to the local markets or the small shops on the old streets of the town. 📸 [Must-Visit Spots] A series that will get you flooded with inquiries on social media! 1️⃣ Sanmenhai Skylight: Tyndall effect light shines through the cave entrance onto the water's surface. Wear a light-colored dress and stand at the bow of a boat for a stunning photo. 2️⃣ Nandan Cave Heaven: Cave and lake views illuminated by colorful lights. Wear white or bright-colored clothing for photos that need minimal editing. 3️⃣ Cliffside Bookstore: Giant rock walls evoke a strong sense of atmosphere. The cliffside viewing platform offers unobstructed views, perfect for beginners. 4️⃣ Baiku Yao Village: A unique thatched-roof ancient village gate exudes a primitive ethnic atmosphere, perfect for taking amazing photos. 5️⃣ Luocheng Cotton Sinkhole: A giant sinkhole with sheer cliffs, deep caves inside, and a thrilling suspended walkway. You can also stay in a guesthouse right next to the sinkhole. 6️⃣ Pohao Lake National Wetland Park: The banks of the Hongshui River resemble a traditional Chinese ink painting, with the lake pavilion nestled against a backdrop of rolling mountains, creating a truly picturesque scene. 7️⃣ Fengtang Village Cloud Sea Viewing Platform: Free! Enjoy views of the sea of clouds, sunrise, sunset, and the Milky Way all at once; the aerial photography effects are absolutely stunning. 💥 【Avoid the Pitfalls Guide】Every word is crucial, a must-read! 1️⃣ Never join a low-priced tour! Multi-day tours priced at 99 yuan are purely shopping tours, pushing various products throughout the trip, effectively halving your sightseeing time. Hechi's attractions are scattered; independent travel and managing your own pace are the right way to experience the city. 2️⃣ Advance booking is essential during holidays! Scenic spots like Fengshan Sanmenhai, Luocheng Mianhua Tiankeng, and Nandan Yaowang Tianxia experience high visitor volumes. Make real-name reservations in advance and strictly adhere to your reserved time slot to avoid peak hours. Resist scalpers and don't believe claims of "internal tickets" or "skip-the-line tickets." 3️⃣ Drive safely on mountain roads! The mountain roads around Qibainong and Tiankeng have many curves and steep slopes. The roads are slippery in rainy weather, so strictly control your speed and do not overtake on curves. 4️⃣ Do not venture into undeveloped areas! Some undeveloped underground corridors and other areas are off-limits to exploration without permission. Safety first! 5️⃣ Signal strength is poor in mountainous areas; download offline maps in advance. Don't ask me how I know; it's really panicking when your navigation suddenly loses signal. 6️⃣ There's a large temperature difference between day and night; bring a light jacket and sunscreen. The sun is warm during the day, but it's chilly in the mornings and evenings, so don't just bring short sleeves. 7️⃣ Wear non-slip sports shoes! The caves are damp, and the mountain paths have many steps; sandals and flip-flops are not suitable. 8️⃣ Don't buy souvenirs at the scenic area; it's more cost-effective to go to the local market. In the farmers' markets of Luocheng and Nandan, tofu balls, glutinous rice cakes, and sesame leaf buns are half the price and still authentic. Hechi is truly a seriously underrated gem of a small town. Its scenery rivals Guilin, but the prices are incredibly affordable. Visit in October or November, avoiding the National Day holiday rush. Choose a weekend, invite your best friend or partner, and take a leisurely road trip. See the jelly-like waters of Sanmenhai, explore the underground caves of Nandan, and enjoy a bowl of noodles for 6 yuan at the market. Experience the slow pace of life in northwestern Guangxi!

Before I went, I thought Hechi was "Guangxi's last hidden gem," with karst peaks, skylight jelly-water, and the land of longevity—just thinking about it was healing. After going, I admit that the word "hidden gem" comes with a price. Hechi's beauty is real, but visiting in October–November might be much more "troublesome" than you think. Let me be honest, this post lays out everything you need to know. Brief introduction Hechi is located on the northwest border of Guangxi. Its karst landscape covers 21,800 square kilometers, making it the city with the largest exposed karst area in Guangxi. It has sinkholes, caves, underground rivers, skylight clusters, and canyons. Its landscape diversity is actually richer than Guilin's, just much less famous. Its charm is hidden in its "wild" and "niche" nature, but the price is also "wild" and "remote." Why I "don't recommend" visiting in October–November (real talk) Real talk 1: October has more rainfall, and your itinerary depends on luck According to the autumn 2026 climate forecast, most of Guangxi will see 10%–20% more rainfall in October. Hechi is located in the mountainous area of northwest Guangxi, where showers and moderate rain take turns. Most of Hechi's attractions are scattered along mountain roads, canyons, and riversides. On rainy days, mountain roads are slippery and difficult to navigate, and some waterfront trails will be temporarily closed, making hiking and sightseeing experiences nonexistent. During the rainy season, rising water levels at Sanmenhai often lead to boat closures and suspended tours. You might travel thousands of miles only to find you can't even get on a boat. Real talk 2: Temperatures are on the higher side, so it might not feel like "crisp autumn weather" The forecast shows that the average temperature in Hechi in October will be 0.1–1.0°C higher than usual. This means you might encounter a "fake autumn" that is humid, muggy, and occasionally warming up, rather than the crisp, dry autumn day you imagined. Humidity in the mountains is high; you'll be sticky after walking around, and you won't even be in the mood to take photos. Real talk 3: The mountain roads are a real "dealbreaker"—novice drivers, don't self-drive All of Hechi's attractions are scattered deep in the mountains. The distances between counties and attractions are extremely long, and the entire route consists of winding mountain roads with many sharp turns, narrow and steep paths, and most sections have no streetlights. Passing oncoming vehicles is extremely difficult, there are very few gas stations in the deep mountain sections, and navigation sometimes fails and leads you onto the wrong small roads. One traveler put it bluntly: "Novice drivers, please don't self-drive!! Passing oncoming vehicles is extremely difficult, many village roads are narrow, and you have to reverse repeatedly to pass, which is very agonizing." Real talk 4: Infrastructure at viral scenic spots can't keep up, leading to a big gap in expectations Taking Nandan Yaowang Tianxia and Geyasigu as examples, these two 4A scenic spots have recently become popular on short-video platforms, but there are only two hotels inside the scenic areas, with a total of about 122 guest rooms, and there are almost no large-scale homestay clusters in the surrounding area. During the National Day holiday, room rates ranged from CNY 299 to CNY 2,088, and they were all fully booked. Most tourists had to stay in Nandan County, 20 km away. There is also a gap in the performances: guides say the performances are very unique, but the actual number of shows is not as many as imagined. The evening bonfire performance lasts about 200 minutes, and by the time it ends, it is nearly 11:00 PM. Many tourists still have to drive back to the county seat overnight, which poses safety risks. Real talk 5: Even Hechi officials are warning about "concentrated passenger flow" In its travel advisory for the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, the Hechi Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, and Tourism explicitly stated: scenic spots such as Fengshan Sanmenhai, Luocheng Cotton Sinkhole, and Nandan Yaowang Tianxia are experiencing concentrated passenger flow. Please make real-name reservations in advance and do not blindly show up and crowd the area. This is not the kind of warning you expect for a "niche destination," which shows that Hechi in October–November is not as "uncrowded" as you think. But to be fair: When is it worth going? · Accept "being on the road": The essence of Hechi is a self-drive loop. It is a fact that attractions are scattered, but the scenery along the way is also part of the journey · Focus on water + caves: Skylights and caves are relatively less affected by the weather, and on rainy days, they actually have more of a "journey to the center of the earth" atmosphere · Choose mid-to-late October: Avoid the National Day holiday, and the rainfall trend will ease slightly · Stay in the county seat to avoid hassle: Hotels in Jinchengjiang District and Bama County are much more comfortable than deep-mountain homestays Travel guide (no-trap version) Transportation · Self-drive (must): Hechi's attractions are scattered, and public transportation is extremely inconvenient. Novice drivers should be cautious, as mountain roads have many turns and are narrow · High-speed rail: It takes about 30 minutes from Nanning East to Du'an Station, but you still need to charter a car/self-drive after leaving the station · Chartered car: If you don't want to self-drive, I recommend chartering a car. It's more expensive but worry-free Must-visit spots (choose the right season) · Sanmenhai: The world's only water-touring sinkhole cluster with jelly-like water. However, boats are frequently closed during the rainy season, so be sure to confirm water levels before you go · Cotton Sinkhole: Cliff bookstore, cliff rafting, and small train · Du'an Skylight Cluster: Jiudun Skylight, Tunbang Skylight—the gold standard for paddleboarding · Bama Baimo Cave/Bainiao Rock: Iconic caves in the land of longevity What to eat · Bama fragrant pig, hemp soup: Specialties of the land of longevity · Hongshui River fresh fish: Tian'e blue knife fish is a signature dish · Du'an sour snacks (suanye): Made from local fresh fruit, sour and sweet, appetizing Accommodation tips · Prioritize county hotels: Jinchengjiang and Bama County have mature facilities and are cost-effective · Don't blindly trust deep-mountain homestays: They are generally damp, have poor soundproofing, and have many mosquitoes, and the prices are not cheap Tips to avoid traps · Don't book low-priced tours: You'll be rushing on the road early every day, traveling back and forth between counties, and will be forced to go to specialty stores for sales pitches · Don't buy "viral longevity water": It has a huge markup; ordinary water quality is sold at a high price · Free attractions have hidden fees: Viewing platforms at village entrances will charge a parking fee of about CNY 10 · Don't follow trends to wild skylights: There are no life-saving facilities, and they hide undercurrents, posing great safety risks · October has more rainfall: Carry an umbrella and pay attention to weather and scenic spot announcements In a nutshell: Hechi's scenery is the most underrated karst hidden gem in Guangxi, but if you go in October–November, you'll have to gamble on the weather, endure mountain roads, and accept the gap in infrastructure. If you can handle the hassle of "being on the road" and choose the right weather and accommodation, it's still worth it. If you just want to take easy, beautiful photos, pick another time or destination.

On a recent road trip to Donglan, I stayed at the All Seasons Hechi Donglan Changle Hotel by the Hongshui River, and I was stunned by the view outside the window at first sight. The hotel sits on the riverbank, with a wooden boardwalk right outside the door. In the early morning, before the mist lifts, the karst hills rise in layers, and the river is jade green. The boardwalk is an ideal photo spot — put on a Zhuang outfit and stand by the railing with the mountains as a backdrop, and every shot looks like an ethnic portrait, so there's no need to squeeze into crowded attractions. The rooms follow All Seasons' usual simple, warm style: light wood paired with off-white, and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the river. The bedding is soft, the bathroom has a wet/dry separation, and there's a small fridge and a tea set; the lighting, curtains, and toilet are all smart, so the little details are worry-free. Amenities are more complete than I expected: free parking, a gym, a laundry room, a restaurant, a children's play area, and meeting rooms. Breakfast is a Chinese buffet from 7 AM–10 AM, so you can eat your fill before heading out. The front desk is open 24 hours, and self check-in is available. Nearby activities are convenient: using the hotel as a base, you can visit Pohao Lake, Changle Palace cave, and the first bend of the Hongshui River; with more time you can drive to Tian'e for paddleboarding and to feed the blue knifefish. Spend a whole day out, then fall asleep to the sound of the river. It opened recently, has a Trip.com rating of 4.6, and a reference price of around CNY 300, offering great value. If you're looking for a quiet place to enjoy the mountains and rivers, this one is worth saving.

How to spend 3 Mid-Autumn days? Just follow this! 🌕 Day 1 (Mid-Autumn day) · chase fish + moon viewing In the morning, head to Tiange for stand-up paddleboarding. The water is as clear as glass and blue fish swim at your feet. Kids can reach out and touch them, and when you feed them the school surges into an underwater storm — a scene straight out of Finding Nemo. 😍😍 (After 4:30 PM you can only play at the shore, and you must be off the water by 6:00 PM). In the afternoon, drive 2.5 hours → Luocheng Cotton sinkhole, stay the night at a cliff hotel, and on Mid-Autumn night watch the moon from the cliff pool — the moon over the sinkhole is huge and round, and the moonlight filling the 326-meter abyss while you soak creates an unforgettable atmosphere. Day 2 · infinity pool + cliff bookstore In the morning, soak again in the cliff infinity pool with the whole sinkhole in view. In the afternoon, walk the glass skywalk over the sinkhole for an exciting rush. Wait until 7:30 PM when the cliff bookstore lights up — warm light washes over the 150-meter cliff face for a special Mid-Autumn night reading session. Let the kid read while you zone out! Day 3 · cave exploration + mountain coaster finale At 9:30 AM, take the first small train into Changsheng Cave. The natural air conditioning stays at 18°C, and the stalactites lit in color are so beautiful they leave you speechless. Exit and ride the monorail coaster for a kilometer-long plunge down the mountain — thrilling but not dangerous, a screaming finish. Then find a restaurant to try the Mulao boji feast before heading home. The last day is easy and not tiring, so it won't affect work or school the next day~ 💡Tips: drive yourself for the whole trip, bring water shoes for stream trekking, quick-dry clothes + a light jacket, three days is just right — this is how to make the most of Mid-Autumn~ Mountain and water adventures

Reverse autumn travel: See the "underwater galaxy" in Tian'e, listen to the wind in Jinxiu, and smell the rice fragrance in Rongshui. 1. Hechi Tian'e: The "Underwater Galaxy" by the Hongshui River Tian'e is hidden in northwest Guangxi, with an average annual temperature of 20.6°C and a forest coverage rate of over 80%. Autumn here is cool and pleasant. Core experience: The Hongshui River has crystal-clear water, where tens of thousands of blue-blade fish gather to form an "underwater galaxy." You can overlook it from the arc-shaped viewing platform or paddleboard for a closer look. The area has designated entry and exit points, with options for long-distance rafting and gentle routes suitable for families. Note: The Longtan Hydropower Station releases water around 4:30 PM daily, so try to schedule water activities between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM. You must wear life-saving equipment when entering the water. Feeding snacks to or catching the blue-blade fish is prohibited. Nearby sights: Longtan Hydropower Station, Tianlong Grand Bridge, Tianlong Grand Canyon, and Yunling Dreamland Campsite (great for sunset and stargazing). Food: Fresh Hongshui River fish, Liuhua pheasant, and large-fruit hawthorn. 2. Laibin Jinxiu: The "Natural Air-Conditioned Room" of Dayao Mountain In Jinxiu Dayao Mountain, the rainy season has just passed in September. The waterfalls are full, the streams are clear, the forests are lush, and it is not very commercialized, with few tourists. Itinerary: Day 1 afternoon, visit Lianhua Mountain, where Danxia landforms meet lush green forests. Take a slow walk along the gentle boardwalks accompanied by streams. Day 2, wake up early and head to the Panwangjie viewing platform. If you are lucky, you might encounter mountain mist and get a bird's-eye view of the entire Dayao Mountain. Tips: Mountain weather is changeable, so bring an umbrella and a light jacket. The boardwalks are well-maintained and easy for seniors and children to walk on. Food: Yao-style dishes at the foot of the mountain, with fresh and authentic ingredients. 3. Liuzhou Rongshui: Golden Rice Waves of Antai Rice Terraces From late September to early October, the terraces in Antai Township, Rongshui, turn from green to golden. In the early morning, mist swirls, and the rice waves roll. Experience: The Antai rice terraces are open for free. The stilt houses in the village retain their original appearance, Miao sisters carry bamboo baskets while walking, and streams flow with a splashing sound. In the evening, find a high spot to watch the sunset wash over the fields. Nearby sights: Yubu Miao Village, Longnv Valley. Food: Rice paddy fish is an early autumn specialty, slow-roasted over charcoal for a crispy skin. Miao-style sour soup and glutinous rice wine are also worth a try. Transportation: High-speed train to Liuzhou Station takes about 3.5 hours, transfer to a bus to Rongshui County takes about 2 hours, then charter a car to Antai Township. How to choose between the three destinations Want to play in the water and see wonders → Tian'e; want to escape to a quiet place for hiking and fresh air → Jinxiu; want to see autumn terrace colors and take great photos → Rongshui.

If you want to avoid the crowds at popular spots during the National Day holiday, consider this route in Hechi: Day 1 in Nandan at Yaowang Tianxia, and Day 2 in Tian'e at the Hongshui River. No mountain climbing, a relaxed pace, and suitable for both seniors and children. 📍Day 1 Nandan | Yaowang Tianxia ✅ Baiku Yao Village The thatched ancient village gate is very recognizable. Walking inside, you'll find an authentic Yao ethnic village. During the day, there is a live performance called "Songs of Heaven and Earth," which tells the history and customs of the Baiku Yao people. When the bronze drums sound, the audience goes quiet for a few seconds. There are also interactive games in the village: Yao-style hammer games, blindfolded drumming, and arrow throwing. You can collect "Yao King Coupons" by checking in at these spots to exchange for small gifts. If you want to take photos, you can rent a set of Baiku Yao traditional clothing. 🌌 Dongtian Shengjing (Cave Wonderland) A natural karst cave with a year-round temperature of around 16°C (61°F). The lighting on the stalactites creates some nice blue-green effects, and the "Blue Cave Mirror" mentioned online really exists—find the right angle for a great shot. There are many steps, but they aren't steep. It is recommended to wear non-slip flat shoes, as the ground inside the cave is damp. 🍶 Dongtian Jiu Hai (Cave Wine Sea) (Optional) A Guinness World Record-certified cave for storing wine, with a constant temperature of 16–17°C (61–63°F). You can smell the distinct aroma of wine upon entering. It displays a large number of ceramic wine jars, and the "World's First Jar" and "Ten Thousand Jar Array" are visually impressive. It's about a 20-minute drive from Yaowang Tianxia, so if you have time, it's worth a stop. 🔥 National Day Limited Edition · Mountain Wilderness Music Carnival Night (Sep 28–Oct 6) Evening activities take place on the large lawn area, including torch parades, band performances, fire dance shows, fireworks, and sky lanterns, ending with a group bonfire dance. There are food stalls on-site, so you can have dinner there. If you want to stand in the front row, it is recommended to arrive half an hour early. 🏨 Accommodation Recommendations China Nandan Mineral Geomagnetic Hot Spring Hotel, not far from the scenic area. It has outdoor hot springs and private soaking tubs, featuring mineral geomagnetic water from 600 meters underground, which may help improve sleep quality after a soak. You can also choose to stay at a homestay in the Geyasigu area, which is closer to the event venue. 📍Day 2 Nandan → Tian'e | Hongshui River In the morning, have a bowl of Nandan rice noodles in town, then take the Dane Expressway to Tian'e, which takes about 1 hour. 🛶 Hongshui River Paddleboarding The Tian'e section of the Hongshui River has a gentle current, with several river bends suitable for getting into the water. The water is clear with high visibility, and the banks feature typical karst landscapes. If you are a beginner, it is recommended to paddle while kneeling for better stability. Be sure to wear a life jacket and do not approach the main shipping channel. 🐟 Blue Knife Fish Schools The afternoon to dusk is the best viewing window. When the sunlight hits at an angle, the fish gather near the surface, and their scales reflect silver light, creating a striking visual effect. Stay quiet on the paddleboard, and for the best photos, keep your phone close to the water surface. If you don't want to get in the water, you can toss breadcrumbs from the shore to attract the fish. Before leaving Tian'e, you can have a meal of Hongshui River fish in town, caught and cooked fresh. 📝 Practical Information Summary 🎫 Tickets: Combo ticket for Yaowang Tianxia + Night Mountain Wilderness Music Concert 138r 👟 Gear: Flat non-slip shoes, light jacket, mosquito repellent, sunscreen ⏰ Blue Knife Fish Viewing: Recommended between 2:00 PM—6:00 PM 🚗 Transportation: Nanning → Nandan approx. 3h, Nandan → Tian'e approx. 1h (Dane Expressway)

Just finished a 6-day, 5-night Guangxi loop trip, visiting Nanning, Baise, Chongzuo, Liuzhou, and Yangshuo ✈️ Since I've already been to Yunnan and Guizhou and seen the sights, this trip was all about relaxation and activities. I visited attractions casually, and the overall experience was really great! 👍 If any young people want a leisure-focused trip, you can use this as a reference~ 💡 Honest advice: If your budget allows, you must choose a private car charter when coming to Guangxi! The distances between attractions are super far, and intercity travel is long, so using ride-hailing is really inconvenient 😭 We chose Guilin Anxin International Travel Service. We had different drivers/guides for the Nanning and Guilin legs, but both provided very attentive service! They helped with booking tickets, picking up tickets, and route planning, so I didn't have to worry about making an itinerary. When tired, I could just rest in the car. The whole trip was so worry-free it almost made me cry 🥹 Day 1 Arrive in Nanning ✈️ | Gulongshan Grand Canyon | Quyang Lake After landing in Nanning, the chartered car picked me up at the airport and headed straight to Gulongshan Grand Canyon for rafting 🏞️ I chose the classic rafting route, which doesn't require paddling. Along the way, you can enjoy the waterfalls and cave landscapes. I saw many people who chose the free-paddling route struggling and getting tired. As someone with low stamina, I decisively chose the energy-saving mode 👌 The only thing is that before rafting, you have to hike downhill for half an hour. I saw two slides meant for the boatmen; I feel the scenic area could easily set it up so tourists can pay to use the slides. Walking it really wore out my legs 🥲 After rafting, a short walk leads to the Gulongshan Grand Waterfall. During the high-water season, the volume is huge. I barely got wet during the rafting, but I put on a raincoat immediately here, otherwise, I would have been soaked 💦 After the waterfall, you need to walk for another 20 minutes through a cave to reach the exit, where you can take a bus back to the entrance~ After leaving the canyon, we drove for about an hour and a half to Quyang Lake. I originally wanted to chase the blue knife fish storm, but unfortunately, it was too far, so we just played on paddleboards at Quyang Lake instead 🏄‍♀️ It's normally 50 yuan per hour for self-paddleboarding, or 120 yuan for a package that includes a boat ride around the lake. We bargained it down to 100 yuan for two people. After the boat ride, we paddleboarded for over an hour ourselves. The weather wasn't too sunny, so it was very comfortable~ We went to Jingxi to stay for the night. There's an ancient town nearby, but because I woke up early and was tired, I didn't go out at night. I just ordered takeout and went to sleep after eating 💤 📌 Tips: ✅ The colorful cave waterfall at Gulongshan Grand Canyon is truly stunning, and the karst landscape at night has a unique charm 🌌 ✅ Remember to bargain for paddleboarding! We paid 100 yuan for two people and had a blast 💪 ✅ Remember to book your car charter in advance; vehicles are in high demand during peak season~

Originally planned to head to Western Sichuan, but the weather was unstable, so we switched to a water-focused route in Guangxi. The 5-day, 4-night trip cost 2,500 per person, including round-trip high-speed rail, accommodation, car rental, admission tickets, and water activities. No rushing throughout the trip. 🌙 Nanning | Night market No rushing on the first day, just focusing on eating. Not doing a high-intensity trip, just headed straight to the night market after getting off the high-speed rail. Didn't take many photos of attractions; all my attention was on the local food, starting the trip at a slow pace. 💧 Du'an | Tunbang Skylight Second day, checked out the skylight for water activities. The water is clear and photogenic, but it felt a bit underwhelming after building up high expectations. It's worth a look if you're passing by, but not a place I'd make a special trip for. 🕳️ Nandan | Dongtian Shengjing The cave is massive, and you'll be awestruck by the space once you step inside. However, experiencing this type of landscape once is enough. 🛶 Tian'e | Paddleboarding The highlight of this trip! We lucked out with good weather; mountains stretched along both banks, and the river was wide. When tired of paddling, I just sat quietly on the paddleboard, drifting with the current, watching the mountain reflections and fish, letting go of all the "to-do" list pressure. It was cloudy the previous days, but here it was clear blue skies and white clouds. If I could only keep one spot from the whole route, I'd choose Tian'e. 🚤 Sanmenhai The moment the boat entered the dark cave was very healing; the green water flowed slowly into the cave, and everything around became instantly quiet. The emerald green water at the Shegeng Cave is ethereal. It's worth a visit if you're passing by, but no need to make a special trip. Out of the 5 days of the trip, 3 were spent playing in the water, with an average daily cost of about 500. No need to wake up early to rush to attractions throughout the trip—it was relaxed and comfortable, and that's enough.

Tian'e Hongshui River hides Guangxi's niche, top-tier water play destination, with crystal-clear, glass-like water. Every summer and autumn, schools of blue knife fish gather on the river surface; just feed them to witness a stunning spectacle. 📍Address: Hongshui River, Liupai Town, Tian'e County, Hechi (No. 94 Lighthouse/Old Wharf/Longtan Dam) 🎫Admission: Free ⏰Best season: May–October for the densest fish schools; early morning and evening for the highest fish activity ✨Key highlights: Blue knife fish storm, glass sea paddleboarding, pristine Hongshui River, niche summer retreat, photogenic spots 🚗Transportation ✅Self-driving (Recommended) 2.5 hours from Hechi city center, 4 hours from Nanning; road conditions are good throughout, with free and convenient parking available at the foot of the mountain near the river. ✅Public transport Take a high-speed train to Hechi West Station/Nandan Station, transfer to a bus to Tian'e county seat, then take a taxi to the Old Wharf. Suitable for non-driving travelers. ✅Itinerary Day 1: Arrive at Old Wharf → Paddleboard on the river → Feed the fish and watch the blue knife fish storm → Walk along the river to watch the sunset Day 2: Play in the water and take morning photos → Visit the No. 94 Lighthouse fish spot → Explore the surroundings, return in the afternoon 🏨Accommodation recommendations 1. Riverside budget homestays (Best for water play, 150–200 yuan) A few minutes' walk from the Old Wharf, right next to the water play area. Quiet and cool at night, with convenient parking. Suitable for early risers who want to watch the fish and go paddleboarding. 2. Chain hotels in Tian'e county seat (Comfortable choice, 180–280 yuan) Chain hotels like City Comfort Inn and Vienna Hotel offer new facilities, cleanliness, and comfort. Plenty of snacks and night markets downstairs make dining and staying convenient. Suitable for families. 3. Yunling Mengxiang Campsite (Niche experience, 70+ yuan per person) For those who love camping, this offers direct views of the mountains and water at night, with a great atmosphere. 📅Day 1 Arrive at Hongshui River | Paddleboarding + immersive fish storm viewing Activities Arrive at the Old Wharf in the afternoon. The water is crystal clear, perfect for renting a paddleboard and slowly cruising the river. Bring breadcrumbs to feed the fish, and schools of blue knife fish will gather, creating a spectacular fish storm—perfect for capturing healing, cinematic shots. In the evening, take a walk along the riverbank to watch the sunset over the green mountains and blue water, enjoying the cool, comfortable evening breeze. Dining ✅Lunch: Local home-style restaurant. Must-try: Hongshui River clear-water fish and farm-fresh vegetables. The fish is fresh, sweet, and has no fishy taste. Approx. 50–60 yuan per person. ✅Dinner: Visit the county night market for specialty jam barbecue, Luosifen (snail rice noodles), and local stir-fries—full of local flavor. 📅Day 2 Beautiful morning glass sea | Off-peak water play, easy return Activities Early morning is when the fish are most active and the water is clearest. With fewer people and a serene landscape, the water surface looks like a mirror. Head to the core spot at No. 94 Lighthouse to watch the dense schools of blue knife fish up close—great for photos. Enjoy some simple water play and wandering before packing up to head home in the afternoon. Dining ✅Breakfast: Local rice noodles, soy milk, and fried dough sticks—an authentic, comforting breakfast. ✅Lunch: Before heading back, be sure to try Tian'e duck and steamed blue knife fish to savor the authentic river flavors. 🍜Must-try local delicacies Clear-water blue knife fish, Hongshui River fresh catch, Tian'e duck, jam barbecue, local Luosifen, farm-fresh vegetables 💡Practical tips 1. Do not increase the saturation when taking photos; keep the river's natural, transparent turquoise green for a realistic, high-quality, and timeless look. 2. Try to visit in the early morning or evening to avoid the midday sun; the fish are also more active then. 3. Water shoes are recommended for water play, as there are shallow rocky areas in the river to prevent slipping and scratches. 4. The entire area is free with no admission fee, and paddleboard rentals are affordable, offering great value. 5. Accommodation in the county seat is limited on weekends, so it is recommended to book in advance. 6. Protect the environment: feed the fish in moderation, take your trash with you, and practice leave-no-trace travel.

I originally wanted to go to Guilin for National Day, but the hotel prices scared me off. A friend said, "Come to Hechi," so I went, half-doubting. After 3 days, I was blown away—the Hongshui River is so blue it looks filtered, the fruit jam barbecue is finger-licking good, and there are way fewer people than in Guilin 😭 🚄 How to get there High-speed rail goes directly to Hechi West Station. It's 1 hour from Nanning and 2 hours from Guiyang. Renting a car at the station is the most convenient option, costing about CNY 200 a day. Attractions are scattered across different counties, so driving yourself is the only way to go. The mountain roads are winding but in good condition—bring motion sickness medicine ⚠️ If you don't want to drive, you can hire a car; it's not expensive when split between 2 to 4 people. 🌊 Experience and sightseeing Hechi is seriously underrated. It has karst peaks, caves, sinkholes, and underground rivers. You must visit Sanmenhai. Take a boat through the world-class skylight cluster; the lake water glows with a deep blue luster, and sunlight streams down from the sinkholes to form light beams. Every step through the caves is a new view, like entering a fantasy realm 📸 The giant stalactites in Baimo Cave come in all shapes and sizes, with underground rivers murmuring nearby—the negative oxygen ion levels are so high you won't want to leave. Drive through the Qibailong National Geopark on the winding mountain roads, climb to the top to overlook the thousands of peaks and depressions, and the sea of clouds after the rain is stunning. The Cliff Bookstore at the Mianhua Sinkhole in Luocheng is built on a steep cliff; sitting by the window reading with a sinkhole beneath your feet is incredibly photogenic. The "Blue Knife Fish Storm" in Tian'e is a new hotspot this year; tens of thousands of blue knife fish surge in the crystal-clear Hongshui River like flowing silver scales—paddleboarding here is cool and healing 🥹 Take a boat through the three gorges of the Lesser Three Gorges; the river is emerald green, lined with strange peaks and ancient vines hanging from the cliffs. Walking on the suspended bridge to overlook the entire valley, you'll feel completely at peace. 🍜 Food is the soul You must try the Duan rice noodles! Freshly pressed from fermented rice milk, they have a subtle, tangy flavor. Served with bone broth, minced meat, tofu puffs, and peanuts, the old shops on the old streets have the most authentic taste—it's the gold standard for local breakfast 🍜 Yizhou fruit jam barbecue is the soul of Hechi. Meat skewers are brushed with a secret fruit jam, creating a mix of sweet, sour, salty, and savory flavors. Grilled until sizzling, it's perfect with an ice-cold beer 🍢 Nandan konjac duck, Liulong oil tea, Duan pickled snacks, and longbang (blood sausage) are all flavors locals have grown up with. Huanjiang fragrant pork, Bama hemp seed soup, and Luocheng Mulao health soup—the freshness of ingredients from the mountains and rivers is something you can't find anywhere else. Wander through the night markets; you can eat until you're stuffed for just CNY 30 or 40 🍋 ⚠️ Tips Attractions are scattered, so driving or hiring a car is the most worry-free option. Mountain roads have many curves, so motion sickness medicine is a must. Caves are cool, so bring a light jacket. Don't forget sunscreen and mosquito repellent. It's recommended to go to the Luocheng Cliff Bookstore and Mianhua Sinkhole early for better light and fewer crowds. Check the season for the Tian'e blue knife fish; it's most spectacular when the water is clear after rain. Signal in the mountains can be spotty, so download offline maps in advance. October in Hechi isn't about whether it's worth going, but when you're going 🍂 Jelly-like water, blue knife fish, and fruit jam barbecue are all waiting for you. If you don't want to deal with crowds during National Day, just go—you'll thank me when you get back 💕

There's plenty of space, so no need to wait in line. Wait until the evening when the sunset glow spills onto the river, reflecting orange light on the water—it's the perfect atmosphere for stunning sunset photos 🌅 🚣 Kayaking area on the calm river This section of the river valley is wide with very gentle currents, making it safe for beginners to enjoy kayaking 💦 The forests on both banks are lush and green, a truly healing sight 🌿 Rowing on the emerald green water, surrounded by quiet, with only the sound of the water and the wind—no need to fight for space with crowds of tourists. Just drift slowly through the valley and immerse yourself in the relaxation that nature brings 😌 🏞️ Shallow water bay for boat trips and water play A gentle, shallow beach with many small boats docked along the shore 🚤 The water is clear and bright, making it a great spot for wading and playing 🌊 The banks are lush with plenty of shade. Take a casual stroll along the river beach, feel the breeze, and enjoy the soft sand, far away from the noisy crowds of the county seat. Find a spot to sit and zone out, feel the coolness of the water up close—it's perfect for photos and relaxing, and great for seniors and children to wander around 👶 🏔️ Riverside town surrounded by karst peaks Karst green mountains stand facing each other across the river, with the emerald Hongshui River flowing slowly through the small town 🏘️ In the distance, strange peaks roll on, blending the landscape with the town. The sightseeing trail along the river has very few tourists. Stroll along the path and gaze at the unique scene where mountains, river, and town merge—every shot is a stunning, natural landscape photo 📸 🚗 Transportation guide For self-driving, navigate directly to the Hongshui River Valley scenic area. There is affordable open-air parking along the road, making it convenient to park 🅿️ Local shuttle buses can take you directly to the riverbank entrance, so public transport is also an option 🚌 The entire riverside trail has a gentle slope with almost no steep inclines, making it easy for seniors and children to walk and play 💯 🎒 Packing list Choose light-colored clothing to match the green mountains and clear waters for great photos 👕 The UV rays are strong outdoors in the valley, so a sun hat is essential 🧢 It's windy by the water, so bring a light, waterproof jacket 🧥 Mobile signal can be weak in some deeper areas, so it's recommended to download offline maps in advance 🗺️ Bring a high-capacity power bank 🔋 and a lightweight waterproof bag to store your phone while playing in the water ~ 💰 2-day itinerary cost breakdown Round-trip transportation (gas/shuttle bus): 90 yuan per person All areas of the river valley are open to the public for free! The whole trip is relaxed and unhurried 🚗 💡 Practical tips to avoid pitfalls There are very few tourists on weekdays! If traveling on weekends, try to avoid the peak hours between 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM for a better experience ☀️ No need to crowd into the popular bridge photo spots; the shallow corners upstream of the river offer cleaner backgrounds with fewer people in your shots The river beach has a lot of gravel and the ground is slippery, so be sure to wear non-slip flat shoes to prevent slipping while playing in the water 🥿

Took a short weekend road trip to Hechi and planned a super comfortable 2-day, 1-night itinerary! No rushing, fewer crowds, and beautiful scenery. Experience water activities, landscapes, and cliff views all in one go—perfect for a relaxing getaway for families or couples. Day 1: Tian'e · Yunling Dreamland Campsite | Blue Knife Fish + Paddleboarding fun The biggest surprise of this trip was the Tian'e Yunling Dreamland Campsite, which offers a one-stop solution for activities, dining, and accommodation—a perfect experience. The campsite is right by the Hongshui River. The water is crystal clear and is a famous gathering spot for Blue Knife Fish. Just sprinkle a little bait, and schools of shimmering fish instantly gather around. Watching the sparkling fish is incredibly soothing, and the up-close experience is fantastic—both adults and kids will love it. The river is calm and safe, making it perfect for beginners to try paddleboarding. Paddle slowly through the lush green mountains and clear waters, surrounded by karst peaks on both sides. The scenery is fresh and soothing, and it's incredibly photogenic—an immersive way to enjoy the cool summer in the mountains. When you're tired, there's no need to hassle with finding a hotel; just check into one of the campsite's rooms. No need to pitch a tent or bring your own gear—it's clean and comfortable. In the evening, sit by the river, enjoy the breeze, and watch the sunset. It's a quiet, relaxing escape from the city hustle—the ultimate vacation vibe. Day 2: Luocheng Cotton Sinkhole | A cliffside secret with day and night views On the second day, head to the Luocheng Cotton Sinkhole to unlock a completely different kind of mountain and cliff scenery. My favorite part was the cliffside bookstore in the evening; the atmosphere is incredible once the lights come on after dark. The warm-lit glass room overlooks the deep sinkhole, with hazy mountain silhouettes in the background. It's quiet, sophisticated, and has very few tourists—perfect for taking stunning, atmospheric night photos. During the day, you can explore the entire scenic area. With a cliffside pool, cliff train, zipline, and cliff rafting, there's plenty to do. After exploring the outdoors, you can visit Changsheng Cave. The constant-temperature cave is cool and comfortable, featuring unique stalactite formations and rich, layered landscapes. Trip Summary This 2-day, 1-night trip to Hechi is perfect for a short, relaxing getaway! On the first day, immerse yourself in water activities in Tian'e—watching Blue Knife Fish and paddleboarding—and stay at a comfortable mountain campsite. On the second day, visit the stunning cliff sinkhole. It’s a perfect mix of activity and relaxation, with a laid-back pace. It’s a hidden gem in Guangxi that’s definitely worth revisiting.

The title is just a joke! I only planned to pass through, but I ended up falling in love and didn't want to leave 😭 Hidden in the mountains of Hechi, this niche secret spot features the emerald-colored Red Water River, canyon caves, and "blue knife fish" storms, with almost no crowds. Living and dining costs are extremely low. You can have a comfortable, relaxing vacation for 300 RMB per person over 3 days, without any touristy commercial traps. But there are some real downsides. I've put together a real, unfiltered 3-day travel guide. Read this before you go! ✅ 💡 Real Experience | No Hype ▪️ The scenery is pristine. The Red Water River is crystal clear. You get canyons, caves, and river landscapes all in one go. It's quiet and uncrowded—no strangers in your photos. ▪️ Prices are amazing. Accommodation is just over 100 RMB, dining is affordable, and most spots are free. Great value. ▪️ Perfect for relaxing and enjoying the water and fresh air. Not for "special forces" style travelers who like to rush. ❌ Objective Downsides ▪️ No high-speed rail; you'll need to transfer. Attractions are scattered in the suburbs, so driving is best; public transport is a hassle. ▪️ Limited entertainment facilities. It's all about nature; almost no "influencer" shops. Water levels can affect water activities, and it's limited during flood season. 💰 Real Cost Reference (3 days, 2 nights, excluding major transportation to/from the destination, approx. 300 RMB per person) ▪️ Accommodation: Budget hotels in the county seat are 110–160/night. Two nights cost about 120–160 per person. Clean and well-equipped. I recommend staying in the Liupai Town county center for easy dining and travel. ▪️ Dining: 60–80 per day. Local rice noodles, river fish, barbecue. Generous portions. Total for 3 days: 180–240. ▪️ Tickets/Activities: Longtan Grand Canyon, Chuandong River Swallow Lake tickets as needed. Many riverside spots are free. Paddleboarding is optional; you won't spend much if you don't do it. ▪️ Local transport: Shared e-bikes in the county, short taxi rides, carpooling for suburbs. Total for 3 days: a few dozen RMB. 🚗 Travel Tips ▪️ Driving is best: 4–4.5 hours from Nanning, 2.5 hours from Hechi. Sedans are fine. Some roads are winding; avoid driving at night. ▪️ Public transport: High-speed rail to Hechi West, then take a bus to Tian'e County. No direct buses to attractions; carpool for suburban spots. ▪️ Within the county: Shared e-bikes are convenient. Short taxi rides are 5–10 RMB. Easy to get around. 🗺️ 3 Days, 2 Nights Relaxing Itinerary Day 1: Arrival, Red Water River leisure Arrive in the county seat in the afternoon and check in. In the evening, head to the Old Wharf to check out the "blue knife fish" storm. Throw in some bait, and thousands of silver fish will gather and churn—it's a spectacular sight. The river section is free to enter. Stroll along the banks of the Red Water River and watch the sunset over the valley. Spend the evening eating and exploring the county seat to experience the local vibe. Day 2: Canyon + Cave deep dive Morning: Longtan Grand Canyon National Forest Park. Climb up to overlook the Red Water River's big bend. The karst canyon is majestic, the forest is dense, and it's a natural oxygen bar. You can take the sightseeing car to save energy. Afternoon: Chuandong River Swallow Lake. Ride a bamboo raft through the caves. There are clusters of stalactites inside, swallows flying about, and the lake water is emerald green and cool. The temperature inside the cave is low, so remember to bring a light jacket. Return to the county seat in the evening to rest. Day 3: Free time, return Choose one: ① Wander around the Sky River Valley, walk the riverside boardwalk, and enjoy the Red Water River valley scenery. The whole route is free. ② Visit the Longtan Hydropower Station to experience the awe of this massive water conservancy project. Reservation with ID is required. Buy some local snacks and head home at a leisurely pace. 🏞️ Must-Visit Spots 📍 Old Wharf | Blue Knife Fish Storm Free! The biggest highlight of Tian'e. The fish are best seen from April–October. Morning and evening are the best times to watch. Pay attention to changes in water levels. 📍 Longtan Grand Canyon Majestic valley, climb up for the view. High forest coverage, perfect for hiking and getting fresh air. I recommend buying a ticket for the sightseeing car to save energy. 📍 Chuandong River Swallow Lake Underground river in a cave. Ride a bamboo raft through it for a unique atmosphere. Bamboo rafts require a minimum of 3 people to depart; if it's quiet, you'll need to find others to share the boat on-site. 📍 Sky River Valley Free riverside boardwalk. Get up close to the emerald-colored water of the Red Water River. It's very relaxing to take a walk and clear your head. 🍜 Local Favorites ▪️ Red Water River fish: Steamed or braised. The river fish is fresh and sweet—a must-try signature dish. ▪️ Local rice noodles: The beef noodles are generous with ingredients; you'll be satisfied for just over 10 RMB. ▪️ Jam barbecue: A local specialty with a unique sauce flavor. The top choice for a late-night snack. ▪️ Black goat hot pot, five-colored sticky rice, Zhuang-style oil tea. Authentic Zhuang flavors. You can eat very well for 50 RMB per person. ⚠️ Tips to Avoid Traps 1. Safety first when playing in the Red Water River! Wear a life jacket regardless of your swimming ability. Beware of dam releases in the afternoon; don't get too close to the water. 2. The riverside is free! Ignore anyone offering to guide you for a fee; it's a scam. 3. Compare paddleboard vendors. Confirm price, equipment, and transport beforehand. Don't book on-site at high prices. 4. Mountain roads in the suburbs are winding. Slow down and drive carefully. Avoid driving on mountain roads at night. 5. Mountain weather is changeable; bring rain gear. There are many mosquitoes by the canyon and river, so insect repellent is a must. Wear non-slip shoes. 6. The "blue knife fish" are affected by water levels and seasons. If the water rises, the viewing experience will be greatly reduced. Check the weather and water conditions before you go. 7. Hotels are in high demand during holidays. Try to book in advance, as the county's capacity is limited. 🎒 Packing List ▪️ Clothing: Non-slip sports shoes, light jacket, change of clothes for water activities. ▪️ Protection: High-SPF sunscreen, hat, insect repellent. ▪️ Miscellaneous: Rain gear, a small amount of cash. ✅ Final Thoughts Tian'e isn't a fancy influencer resort, but it wins on being pristine, quiet, and affordable. ✨ With the emerald Red Water River, majestic canyons, and cave wonders, it's uncrowded and perfect for a relaxing 3-day trip for 300 RMB per person. It's suitable for friends who love natural scenery, don't want to deal with crowds, and are looking for a low-cost, relaxing trip. If you're looking for bustling commercial districts and rich entertainment options, this place will disappoint you. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle and find a quiet little town in the mountains, you'll find plenty of surprises here.

A September typhoon washed away the summer heat, bringing the crispness of early autumn. We set off from Guangdong for a road trip around Guangxi, a journey to drop off a student from Nanning to Guilin. Driving the entire way, we captured the landscapes along the route in the memories of this trip. Driving along the Hena Expressway felt like entering a flowing karst ink wash painting. With peaks layered upon peaks and clouds gently swirling around them, the endless beauty outside the car window made it hard to even blink. We slowed our pace in Mingshi Scenic Area, Chongzuo. Climbing to the mountaintop, we watched green peaks rise like bamboo shoots while rice fields rippled in the wind. Water buffalo strolled leisurely through the fields, and the setting sun cast a gentle, golden glow over the rice paddies. This hidden paradise, favored by time, was filled with healing poetry. The roar of the Detian Transnational Waterfall served as the most magnificent footnote to our journey. The waters of the Guichun River cascaded over the cliffs, transforming into a grand silver curtain of water, with mist spraying our faces and rainbows faintly appearing. Standing by the boundary river, we felt the grandeur of the landscape. We also experienced high-tech exoskeleton assistance, which helped us climb the stairs with ease. Continuing north to the banks of the Hongshui River in Tian'e County, we encountered a stretch of crystal-clear "glass water." The river was as transparent as glaze, reflecting the towering karst peaks on both banks. Although we didn't spot any schools of fish, this ultimate purity and tranquility was a romantic gift from nature—an unexpected surprise on our journey. Upon arriving in Guilin, we checked into a homestay by the Rong River, listening to the wind rustle through the trees and sleeping by the water. In the evening, we visited Elephant Trunk Hill, strolled around the Twin Pagodas, and took a boat cruise, watching the lights on both banks shatter into a galaxy on the water's surface. This slow-paced day felt like a poem intentionally left blank in our journey. The final stop of our journey was the Qilou City in Wuzhou. Strolling under the seven-kilometer-long covered walkways, we watched the century-old arcades stand quietly, their water gates and iron rings telling stories of old Lingnan. Amidst the scent of tea and the bustle of daily life, we felt the city's relaxed atmosphere and deep heritage, bringing a gentle conclusion to this long-distance road trip. Heading north, with mountains and rivers as our companions, we tucked the stunning scenery along the way into our hearts and gently placed the memories of this road trip into the September breeze.
