#外游 How can you not try the local seafood dishes in Sicily? Trapani’s Cous Cous is not to be missed! 💛💛That day at the famous restaurant Trapani, we also tasted Italian raw red shrimps 🍴🦐🍴, which were super sweet and fresh, leaving a lasting aftertaste! 🔶Cuscusu con pesce in Zuppa Cous Cous (couscous) was originally introduced from North Africa. It is made of coarse flour and its shape and taste are like grains of millet. In Trapani, Cous Cous is usually made with Mediterranean seafood and rich fish soup. It is a very traditional and flavorful Sicilian seafood dish. 🔶Crudità di gamberi rossi su rucola Raw red shrimps served with rocket and topped with the restaurant's special sauce. I'm not kidding. I ate a whole plate by myself and it still wasn't enough. It was so fresh and sweet. Paired with the local white wine, it was absolutely delicious! This restaurant doesn't have any signboards outside the door and is very low-key, but it still attracts many customers. It seems to rely on word of mouth. It has high ratings online and is well worth a visit. 📍La Bettolaccia Osteria Via Generale Fardella Enrico, 25, 91100 Trapani TP, Italy #Overseas Travel #Italian Travel #European Travel #Popular Restaurants

#UnbeatableSeaView #OverseasTravel Trapani is a small seaside town in western Sicily. The city center is not too big and can be walked around in half a day. I took a walk along the beach in the morning and the scenery was nice. The sea water is very clear. In early summer, Sicilians have already started staying at the seaside to enjoy the sunny summer. Many tourists stay in Trapani and then take a day trip to the mountain town of Erice, go to Marsala for wine tasting, walk around and take photos in the salt pan nature reserve, or take a boat to the famous nearby archipelago Isole Egadi. #Star Writers Go Go Go #Sicily

#planitorwingit I’m a “wing it” traveler by nature, but for the Venus Castle gardens in Erice, I made a rare exception: I checked the opening hours and packed a water bottle. Why? Because the castle sits at the top of a hill, and the walk up is no joke. I’d read that the gardens are free to enter, but the castle itself costs a few euros—cash only, so I withdrew €10 before leaving Trapani. The walk through the gardens was peaceful, with stone paths, cypress trees, and benches facing the sea. I sat for a good twenty minutes, watching the mist roll in. It felt like a movie set. My advice: plan your Erice visit around the weather. If it’s foggy, the views vanish, and you’re left with damp shoes and a €12 taxi fare. Is it worth paying for the castle interior, or is the garden stroll the real highlight?

#planitorwingit My walk along the salt pan trail in Trapani was a “plan it” decision. I had read about the beautiful, otherworldly landscape, so I made a point to visit. I parked my car near the entrance (free parking) and followed the path along the salt pans. The walk was about 2 kilometers one way, flat and easy, with the salt pans on one side and the sea on the other. I went in the late afternoon to catch the sunset, and it was a magical experience. The light turned the water a soft pink, and the windmills in the distance looked like something out of a painting. My advice? For a walk like this, timing is everything. Check the sunset time and plan your walk accordingly. It’s a popular spot, so arriving a little early will help you find a good place to sit and enjoy the view.

#planitorwingit My stroll through the fish market lanes of Trapani’s old town was a “wing it” adventure. I had heard about the famous market, so I knew I wanted to see it, but I had no idea what to expect. The sensory overload was immediate: the smell of the sea, the shouts of the vendors, and the sight of mountains of fresh fish. I weaved through the narrow lanes, past stalls selling everything from swordfish to sardines. I bought a small piece of fresh fish for €4 and had it grilled at a nearby eatery for €2. It was a delicious and authentic lunch. My advice? For a market like this, the best approach is to dive in and let the atmosphere guide you. Be prepared for the crowds and the noise, and don’t be afraid to try something new. It’s a feast for the senses.

#planitorwingit My trip up to Erice was a mix of planning and spontaneity. I had planned to take the cable car from Trapani, a quick and easy way to get up the hill. I bought a round-trip ticket for €6 (card accepted) and enjoyed the views from the cabin. Once I was at the top, I decided to just “wing it” and explore the hill path on foot. I followed the path as it wound through the town, past the medieval walls and the beautiful gardens. I found a quiet spot on a bench and just sat for a while, enjoying the views and the cool breeze. My advice? The cable car is a great way to get up to Erice, but the real magic is in the walking. Once you’re at the top, ditch the map and just explore.

#planitorwingit I am usually a "wing it" traveler, but for the Trapani Casa della Memoria museum lane, I did a little research beforehand. I knew the museum focused on the local tradition of the "Misteri" (Mysteries) procession, and I wanted to understand the context before seeing the actual floats. I found the museum easily enough—it’s tucked away in a quiet lane—and paid a small entry fee (around €5, cash only). What I didn't plan was how much time I'd spend just wandering the surrounding streets afterward. The lane itself is a charming, narrow passage with stone buildings and the occasional cat. I stumbled upon a small artisan shop selling miniature models of the Misteri floats for €20–50. I hadn't planned to buy anything, but the craftsmanship was too good to resist. My advice? Do a little "planning" by reading up on the history, but leave plenty of "wing it" time to explore the side streets. You never know what you'll find.

#citybreakvsnatureescape Trapani’s fish market is a short, noisy lane tucked behind the port, and it’s one of the most authentic corners of the city. I went early, around 8 a.m., when the boats were still unloading and the air smelled sharply of the sea. Stalls sell swordfish, tuna, prawns, and the occasional octopus, laid out on beds of ice. Most vendors are cash-only, and prices aren’t always marked — I learned to ask and haggle gently. A kilo of sardines cost me €4, and the seller threw in a lemon. The lane is narrow and wet underfoot, so wear closed shoes. It’s not a long walk, maybe 15 minutes end to end, but it’s intense — loud, colourful, and completely unvarnished. Do you think markets like this are the real soul of a place, or just a performance for visitors who arrive with cameras?

#citybreakvsnatureescape The cable car from Trapani to Erice is a short, steep ride — about 10 minutes each way — and it offers a view that’s worth every euro. I paid €5.50 for a return ticket (cash or card) and arrived at the top to find a medieval hill town wrapped in mist. Erice itself is small, quiet, and slightly mysterious. I followed the main lane towards the castle (€4 entry, cash only), then walked the outer walls for a view over the salt pans and the sea. The path is cobbled and uneven, so wear proper shoes. I made the mistake of going in thin sandals and regretted it within minutes. Also, the last cable car down is around 7 p.m. in summer — check the timetable before you go. Do you think hill towns like Erice are better in the fog, or does the view need clear skies to impress?

Many people say, "Southern Italy and Sicily are the soul of the Mediterranean, the truest, most authentic Italy." On my third trip to Italy, I finally arrived at the soul of Italy! Here you'll find not only sunshine, volcanoes, lemons, wineries, and jelly-like seas, but also the historical layers of ancient Greek, Roman, Arab, and other civilizations. The beauty here comes from the collision of ancient culture and natural wonders, and above all the relaxed way of life that pervades everything. The sun and sea breeze carry the Mediterranean's unique languid charm, making it especially suitable for a vacation. So, since this trip coincided with our 25th wedding anniversary, we planned a full 20-day vacation. This relaxed, slow-paced approach—no rushing, no packed itinerary—is the essence of southern Italy and Sicily D1️⃣: ✈️ Arrive in Naples D2️⃣: Naples ➡️ Sorrento D3️⃣: Sorrento ➡️ Positano ➡️ (stay) Sorrento (guide posted) D4️⃣: Sorrento ➡️ Amalfi ➡️ Ravello ➡️ (stay) Sorrento (guide posted) D5️⃣: Sorrento ➡️ Capri (guide posted) D6️⃣: Capri D7️⃣: Capri ➡️ Naples, rent a car in Naples, then ➡️ Alberobello ➡️ Matera (guide posted) D8️⃣: Matera ➡️ Tropea (guide posted) D9️⃣: Tropea ➡️ Messina ferry ➡️ Taormina (ferry guide posted) D🔟: Taormina (guide posted) D1️⃣1️⃣: Taormina D1️⃣2️⃣: Taormina ➡️ Cefalù D1️⃣3️⃣: Cefalù (guide posted) D1️⃣4️⃣: Cefalù ➡️ Palermo D1️⃣5️⃣: Palermo ➡️ Trapani ➡️ Favignana (stunning jelly-like sea, only a 30-minute boat ride from Trapani) ➡️ (stay) Trapani D1️⃣6️⃣: Trapani ➡️ Scala dei Turchi (guide posted) ➡️ Agrigento D1️⃣7️⃣: Agrigento ➡️ Noto (guide posted) ➡️ Syracuse D1️⃣8️⃣: Syracuse (guide posted) D1️⃣9️⃣: Syracuse ➡️ Catania D2️⃣0️⃣: Return car at Catania airport ➡️ ✈️ home 🔔 Tips: 1️⃣ Amalfi, Capri, Taormina, and Cefalù were the four places I loved most on this trip. They are great for a vacation and worth staying a few extra days 2️⃣ The roads in the towns around Amalfi are very narrow and test driving skills, and parking is difficult and expensive, so driving is not recommended. Public transport is also convenient (transport guide posted; see my earlier posts) 3️⃣ Many places in Italy have ZTL restricted zones (Zona Traffico Limitato). If you enter one, you may face heavy fines. When booking a hotel, find one close to the ZTL but outside it so you can park at the hotel and walk into the old town 4️⃣ Italians are very warm, but driving can be aggressive. Drivers often change lanes without signaling and honk frequently. I've driven in many places around the world, and the only place I've repeatedly experienced lane changes without signaling and persistent honking is Italy, so be careful and stay focused when driving

Ready for an Italian island adventure? Discover Sicily’s off-the-charts beauty, epic local bites, and a front-row seat to Mount Etna’s fiery show 🌋🇮🇹. This guide is for anyone craving history, volcano vibes, and coastal charm—from Palermo’s busy streets to Castiglione di Sicilia’s lava-dusted vineyards. Top Sicily Highlights: Metropolitan City of Palermo – Sicily’s vibrant capital is pure soul food: stroll historic streets loaded with market energy, check out the jaw-dropping Palermo Cathedral, and inhale the sea air at Foro Italico. Pro tip: If you love street food, devour a panelle sandwich (crispy chickpea fritters) at Antica Focacceria San Francesco (via Alessandro Paternostro, 58). Mt Etna & Castiglione di Sicilia – Head east for actual volcanic action! Mt Etna (95031 Adrano, Metropolitan City of Catania, open all year, all day) keeps things exciting with occasional eruptions—if you’re lucky, you might glimpse molten lava after sunset! Base yourself in Castiglione di Sicilia, a hill town with medieval alleys and Sicilian wine cellars. Consider booking a guided Etna hike (trailheads open year-round, but check weather for safety) and don’t miss sampling the local Etna Rosso. Getting Around: Sicily is best tackled by car (rent via trip.com for maximum freedom). Trains/buses connect cities, but rural buses aren’t always reliable. For Mount Etna, aim for an early start and pack layers; weather flips fast at altitude. Foodie Alert: In Catania, grab arancini al ragù at Savia (via Etnea, 300). Near Mt Etna, try pistachio gelato—this region grows the best pistachios in Italy. Travel Tips: Sicily’s weather is mild, but volcanic ash is no joke—check alerts and bring a scarf or buff if Etna is active. Most sites are open all day, all year. #SicilyEats #MtEtnaAdventure #ItalianIslands #TravelHacks #tripdotcom

Sicily | Discover a millennium-old mixed-heritage secret in the Mediterranean | 5-day island tour guide If there's an island that encompasses volcanoes, turquoise seas, Byzantine golden mosaics, and Norman castles, it must be Sicily. This land, embraced by the Mediterranean, has successively welcomed Greeks, Romans, Arabs, and Normans, with diverse civilizations layered over time. "Malèna" and "The Godfather" were filmed here, and the sea breeze carries both ancient ruins and the laid-back charm of Southern Italy. 📅5-day island tour route: Palermo > Taormina > Mount Etna > Trapani Day 1 Palermo | Sicily's capital, a millennium-old Norman royal city ✅Attractions 1. Day 4 Trapani | Windmills and salt pans on the west coast, old Mediterranean charm ✅Attractions Marsala Salt Pans An iconic landscape on Sicily's west coast, featuring ochre-red windmills, vast salt ponds, and conical salt piles. Attire: Summers are hot, so wear sun protection; avoid overly revealing clothing when visiting churches; bring comfortable athletic shoes for volcano hiking. 3. Pace of travel: The pace of life in Southern Italy is slow, so don't plan an overly packed itinerary. Allow time to enjoy the slow afternoon in the towns. 4. Historical tidbit: Sicily is located in the heart of the Mediterranean and has historically been a trade route. Successive rule by Greeks, Arabs, and Normans has created a unique blend of architecture and culture, making it a crossroads of Mediterranean civilization.

On Sicily’s western coast, Trapani is a town shaped by the sea. Its old centre stretches along a narrow spit of land, with baroque churches, bustling piazzas, and views that glow at sunset. Just outside the city lie the famous salt pans, a landscape of gleaming pools edged with windmills. Here, salt has been harvested for centuries, and you can watch the traditional methods still in use today. The reflections of sky and water create a dreamlike scene, especially in the golden evening light. Back in town, Trapani rewards with fresh seafood — couscous al pesce is the local speciality — and a relaxed pace that makes lingering easy. It’s a place where history, tradition, and natural beauty all come together by the shore. We went to Salina Calcara - Saline di Trapani e Paceco and had a fabulous time there, they did a guided tour and a trip to their museum, as well as letting us don some boots and get a feel of life as a salt worker (Top tip: It's really hot in August!!). Vince is one of the magnificent city I ever visited but still it’s over rated and no need to spend more than 10 hours in it and better to visit another city
