I used to think Tromsø was the pinnacle of Nordic winter scenery, but after visiting the Lofoten Islands, I realized it can be even more stunning. Here, the route is filled with snowy mountains, fjords, fishing villages, colorful houses, and the sea. It's a complete paradise for scenery lovers. About traveling in the Lofoten Islands: Public transportation here is inconvenient, so the best way to explore is by self-driving, as the entire route is scenic and being able to stop whenever you want is the best. However, if you have little experience driving on ice and snow in winter, be cautious about self-driving, as the roads can be very slippery and dangerous. If you don't drive, the best option is to join a tour from Svolvær. Usually, a one-day tour of the southern Lofoten will take you to classic spots around Reine / Hamnøy / Sakrisøy. This area is basically the "postcard cover zone" of the Lofoten Islands.

Norway's northern city Tromsø is recognized as the best place in the world to see the aurora～ It is located within the Arctic Circle and right in the center of the aurora belt, making it the perfect spot for the northern lights, so it is also called the "Aurora City"! So, when I was researching online before, whenever Tromsø was mentioned, it was either about the aurora or reindeer, or whale watching. Why has no one ever written a proper guide about this city? I really regret only staying here for three days. I love this place so much, especially those colorful little houses—they are so beautiful! I originally thought there was only the aurora here, but it’s so beautiful, with evening glows every day, sometimes orange-pink, sometimes purple-pink, and the night scenes are also stunning! ✈️ Airport to city center, Tromsø is about 6 km from the airport to downtown, with three options: 1️⃣ Take the FLYBUSSEN bus. Weekend schedules differ from weekdays, so check carefully. Round-trip ticket price is 160 NOK per person. 2️⃣ Take bus 40 or 42: Note‼️ Many people online took a long detour, but the most convenient way is to, after collecting your luggage at the airport, take the vertical elevator directly to the underground parking on level -1, cross through, then cross the road to find a bus stop served by buses 40 or 42. 3️⃣ Taxi 📱 About Tromsø bus apps: 1️⃣ Troms Reise: Used to check bus times and stops. Norwegian bus stop names are all in Norwegian, which is hard to understand, so I used Troms Reise while riding to find the stops along the bus route based on the bus’s direction and find my stop, then press the bell when approaching. 2️⃣ Troms Mobillett: Used for ticket purchase. You can buy single tickets or day passes. The day pass costs 120 NOK and allows unlimited rides within one day. After purchase, you get a QR code to scan when boarding. 🎫 Ticket purchase methods: Norwegian buses encourage buying tickets before boarding. You can buy tickets in advance on Troms Mobillett using a credit card, or use a card at machines next to bus stops, or buy bus tickets at some convenience stores. Buying in advance is cheaper and faster than buying from the driver on board. 🚌 Some important bus stops and routes: 1️⃣ Tromsø Airport to city center: Bus 40, get off at Wito stop (not very sure); Bus 42, get off at Sjøgata S3 stop. 2️⃣ City center to Arctic Cathedral: Bus 26, board at Sjøgata S1 stop, get off at Tromsdalen Bruvegen stop. 3️⃣ City center to Fjellheisen Cable Car station: Same as above. We walked from the Arctic Cathedral to the cable car station, which seems to be the fastest way. 4️⃣ Cable car to city center: Bus 26, board at Fjellheisen stop, get off at Langes gate F2 stop. 5️⃣ City center to airport: Bus 40, board at Fr. Langes gate F1 stop; Bus 42, board at Sjøgata S4 stop. Both get off at Flyplassen stop.
