Spain Westward Journey ~ Cáceres (Region) In fact, this is not Pizarro's former residence, but a 15th-century manor that is a replica of the conquistador's residence. It consists of two floors, with different recreation rooms on the lower floor and a small museum on the upper floor. Admission is €2 and opening hours are 10:00am to 2:00pm and 10:00pm to 2:00pm in winter. Trujillo therefore belongs entirely to the Route of the Conquistadors, which includes other areas of Extremadura such as Medellín, Vila Nova Serena or Jerez de los Caballeros. Furthermore, the Monfrague National Park is one of the most important protected areas in Extremadura, located a few kilometers north of Trujillo and has an extraordinary landscape of woods, meadows and ponds. The origins of Trujillo can be found in the original settlement called Turgalium. After being conquered by the Romans and Visigoths, Trujillo remained under Arab rule for over 500 years, during which time it experienced significant development. After being conquered by King Fernando III in 1232, it fell into Christian hands, while monarch Juan II granted Trujillo the title of city in 1430. In the 16th century, Trujillo experienced an era of glory due to its important role in the discovery of America. The city was the home of two great conquistadors: Francisco de Pizarro and Francisco de Orellana, the discoverers of Peru. Other luminaries were also born in Trujillo, such as Fray Jerónimo de Loiza, the first bishop of Cartagena, and Nuflo de Chavez, the discoverer of Bolivia.
