Instead of simply looking at artworks, I got to walk through a beautiful forest where the landscape itself becomes part of the art. The huge sculptures blend naturally into the greenery, with winding paths, water, stone, and open spaces creating a surprisingly peaceful atmosphere. My favorite spots were the Spiral Waterway and Pyramid Island—both looked completely different depending on the angle and light. What I liked most was the feeling of discovering each artwork while walking. There was no rush, just fresh air, greenery, and interesting scenery around every corner. 🌿 The park was designed by sculptor Dani Karavan, and the entire space feels like one giant landscape sculpture. The sight of a massive concrete structure suddenly emerging in a lush, green valley is truly spectacular! 👀 To help people learn more about them, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) and the Japan Water Agency have been distributing "Dam Cards" to visitors since 2007. You can collect these cards at over 830 locations nationwide, including 15 spots right here in Nara! Each card is packed with everything from basic stats to incredibly niche details, making them a fun and educational souvenir. ✍️ Today, we’re highlighting some dams where you can get these cards, along with their distribution spots. It seems they also serve an "Enzyme Brown Rice and Japanese-style Curry," available exclusively from Monday to Wednesday. 🍚 Their healthy lunches are packed with the umami and nutrients of the ingredients, featuring staples like enzyme brown rice and kasaneni (layered simmered vegetables). The weekly menu heavily incorporates locally grown Utano vegetables into both its main and side dishes. 🥬 The enzyme brown rice requires quite a bit of time and effort: brown rice, adzuki beans, and salt are cooked in a pressure cooker for about an hour, steamed for 50 minutes, and then transferred to a warmer to ferment for three days! 🍚 Its appearance and subtle sweetness resemble sekihan (red bean rice), but the texture is distinctively chewier than regular rice. This natural taco shop is run by "Cafe Necco," an organic café based in Murou. 🌮 Their tortillas are made from a special dough of nixtamalized organic corn (boiled with lime) mixed with naturally cultivated rice flour. They use organic, pesticide-free vegetables and grains, along with antibiotic-free meat. ✨ During this visit, I enjoyed traditional Mexican flavors featuring pork and beef, as well as some unique original tacos like grilled beets, log-grown shiitake mushrooms from Yoshino, and a black rice and lentil mix. 😋 While the classics are amazing, my absolute favorite has to be the black rice and lentil taco. Murō-ji Temple Five-Storied Pagoda

We went to "Uda Yakuyu no Yado Yatakiya," a traditional storehouse inn nestled in the mountains of Nara 🚪 With a limited number of guests, it felt like we had the place all to ourselves, offering a truly peaceful atmosphere ✨ The best part was soaking in the medicinal bath in the ceramic bathtub ♨️ It warmed us right to the core. Dinner was a full course meal featuring local Nara vegetables, and we were completely satisfied 🍽️ Breakfast was also full of the proprietress's dedication and had a gentle, wholesome taste. The sizzling sound of frying radish cakes mingled with the aroma of scallions wafted from the street corner vendor's stove as he set up his stove. The crispy, savory flavor was always appetizing. The vendor ladled the mixed radish batter into a pan, pressed it into a round shape with a spatula, and fried it until golden brown on both sides. The crispy edges glistened in the sunlight, and each bite was exceptionally crunchy, revealing the tender radish inside. The aroma of scallions slowly spread in the mouth. Next to him, a clay pot simmered with savory soy milk. The bottom of the bowl was lined with soy sauce, vinegar, and seaweed. When hot soy milk was poured over it, it instantly solidified into a crunchy consistency. Topped with fried dough sticks and scallions, the rustling sound as it was stirred was incredibly soothing. Beside the cashier, a bamboo basket held freshly steamed shumai, their thin skin revealing tender pink shrimp inside. Some people dipped them in vinegar and ginger, the sweet and savory flavor making it hard to resist eating a few more. This casual way of eating by the roadside, without fancy tableware, brings the most genuine joy. It turns out that the true deliciousness of travel isn't in the dining environment, but in the feeling of being immersed in the local atmosphere.
