Uppsala Cathedral ▶️ This majestic cathedral, the largest in Scandinavia, has towered over the city since the late 13th century. Its spires seem to pierce the sky, a reminder of a time when faith was paramount. Swedish kings were crowned here, and Gustav Vasa, the father of modern Sweden, was laid to rest in a sarcophagus just behind the altar. ▶️ But what's truly striking about this place is the wax sculpture "The Return of Mary" by Anders Widoff. It's positioned almost unnoticeably behind the altar, as if modestly awaiting its moment. The sculpture depicts the Virgin Mary returning to our modern world, confused and perhaps a little cynical. Her image seems unusually earthy, almost vulnerable, making one wonder what a saint might be like in our time. This work seems to invite dialogue—with faith, with oneself, and with the world around us. ▶️ Many visitors entering the cathedral for the first time don't immediately realize that this is a statue, not a living person. #fromarchives #sweden #architecture #cathedral #travel #historyinphotos #mine

🏖️Environment/Facilities: Overall, the city is clean and livable, not chaotic, people don't smile much, most people use bicycles as a vehicle. 💰Average price per person: Food starts at 100 Swedish kronor, or about 350 Thai baht. Bus fare is 40-50 Swedish kronor. Tourist attractions, museums, cost around 200 Swedish kronor and up, depending on the location. 💞Reason for recommendation: Overall, we like it, it's peaceful, but it's cold all the time~

#folkactivities During my recent trip to Sweden, I had the chance to visit a traditional fair, and it was such a unique and delightful experience! 🇸🇪🎡 The fair was held in a charming small town near Uppsala, surrounded by beautiful countryside. The atmosphere was vibrant, with locals dressed in traditional Swedish clothing, stalls full of handmade crafts, and the smell of delicious food wafting through the air. There was no entrance fee, making it easy to wander in and out, enjoying the festivities at your own pace. One of the highlights for me was watching the folk dances. The dancers, in their colorful costumes, moved so gracefully, and the music played by the live folk band added a magical touch to the whole scene. 🎻 I also tried some classic Swedish foods like herring, freshly baked cinnamon buns, and, of course, a taste of their famous lingonberry jam. The fair was a feast for the senses—there were so many different flavors, sounds, and sights to take in. In addition to the food and music, there were plenty of games and activities for all ages. I tried my hand at the traditional ring toss and even attempted to carve a small wooden horse at one of the craft stalls. 🐴 The local artisans were so friendly and eager to share their skills and stories. After enjoying the fair, I took a short trip to Uppsala to explore the impressive Uppsala Cathedral and the charming streets of the old town. If you’re in Sweden, especially in the summer, attending a traditional fair is a must-do. It’s a perfect way to experience Swedish culture and connect with the local community. 🌟 #trip #swedishfair #folktraditions #culturalexperience #uppsala #traveladventures

🌎In the vast world of Northern Europe, Sweden weaves exciting journeys with its unique natural scenery and profound history and culture. Driving through the southern border of Sweden, it feels like being in a moving picture. Every stop is a baptism of the soul, and every stay is a dialogue with history. This is not only a journey, but also a deep exploration of the soul. ⭐️Route recommendations 🚩Stockholm→Gothenburg→Malmö→Uppsala 🌼Daily schedule DAY1-2: Stockholm City Hall - National Museum of Sweden - Main Square - Vasa Shipwreck Museum - Drottningholm Palace - Skansen DAY3-4: Fish Market Church-Gothenburg Art Museum-Liseberg Amusement Park-Gothenburg Botanical Garden DAY5: Malmö Small Square-HSB Rotary Center-Modern Museum DAY6: Uppsala Cathedral-Uppsala Castle-Uppsala Ancient City 🌸The self-driving mileage is about 900 kilometers. The recommended travel time is 6-7 days, which is suitable for tourists who like cultural scenery. 💖Overview of attractions ✔️Stockholm City Hall City Center: Located on the shores of Lake Mälaren, it was built in 1911. It is the image and representative of Stockholm. It is the office of the city's Municipal Council and the place where the Nobel Prize is celebrated after the award. The exterior wall of the entire building is brick red and is built near the water. The towers stand majestically, forming a strong contrast with the gentle buildings spreading along the water. Coupled with the highly decorative longitudinal windows, the entire building is like a sailing ship, magnificent and majestic. . ✔️Main Square: Gothenburg’s Main Square is one of the oldest and most famous squares in the center of Gothenburg, Sweden. This is the gathering point of the old town streets. Most of the buildings in the square were built in the 18th and 19th centuries, displaying traditional Swedish wooden architecture and Gothic architectural style, adding a unique historical flavor to the square. ✔️Fish Market Church: This place called "Feskekörka" by the locals is Gothenburg's famous "Fish Market". This word is "Fish Church" in Swedish. The market sells fresh fish caught that day and a variety of seafood. You can find a restaurant to taste it at the fish market, or you can buy seafood and sit on the beach and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Even if you don’t eat seafood, it’s still great for just taking photos. ✔️Malmö Small Square: This is one of the most popular squares in Malmö, Sweden. There are open-air cafes and restaurants on the square, and there are old-fashioned buildings around it. Here visitors can try traditional Swedish fare such as Swedish meatballs and herring salad, or enjoy international dishes. There is a giant lamp on the square, built in 2006, 5.8 meters high. Standing under this huge table lamp at night, it feels like walking into a fairy tale world. ✔️The ancient city of Uppsala: Located in the north of the city, the ancient city is basically composed of a museum and three Swedish tombs from around the 6th century. In the museum, you can learn about the history and culture of the ancient Vikings and the city of Uppsala. ☀️Driving in this charming land in the south of Sweden, enjoy the gentle sunshine on your body, bathe in the gentle sea breeze, listen to the songs from the Middle Ages, and touch the church buildings thousands of years ago... There are fascinating scenery along the way, and there are new surprises waiting for you at every turn~ #trip # Self-driving # Car rental # Self-driving tour

A really lovely city from Sweden. Only one hour train ride from the capital Stockholm. The city has the oldest university and because of that, a lot of people are coming there for study. On summer vacation, people just go back to their hometown and spend with their families.

If anyone says Sweden is boring again, I'll really get upset!! In the past, I always flocked to the tourist hotspots in the city center. It was crowded, and all the photos looked like cookie-cutter shots. I completely missed the essence of Nordic relaxation 😭 This time, I avoided the crowds and explored hidden gems in southern Sweden, unlocking healing experiences kept secret by locals! No huge crowds, just wilderness, castles, islands, and thousand-year-old ruins. It's gentle, photogenic, and offers incredible value! I've put together this no-fluff 5-day/4-night guide to hidden Sweden, including real expenses and tips to avoid pitfalls. Beginners can follow it directly without any worries! 🌟 Must-visit hidden gems (no tourist traps) 1. Halmstad | A gentle 17th-century castle town I highly recommend this to anyone who loves a slow pace! This small town is so low-key that there are almost no tourists, yet it hides the most authentic Swedish vintage romance. You must visit Halmstad Castle! It's so off the beaten path that you can have the whole castle to yourself. Walking through the century-old wooden corridors, even the sound of your footsteps is healing. With vintage carved glass windows and snow-covered courtyards (stunning in autumn/winter), every photo looks like a scene from a Nordic movie 📸 The old town square in the city center is full of life. You must try the mulled wine sold by the grandmother at the street stall. The sweetness of cinnamon mixed with orange dispels all the Nordic chill. Pair it with a freshly baked cinnamon roll for pure happiness! 2. Runestone town | A Viking secret through the ages This is definitely the most underrated hidden town in Sweden! It has the highest density of runestones in the country. You can find over a dozen thousand-year-old Viking carvings scattered along the streets, lakeside lawns, and forest paths. The stones are engraved with ancient Viking epics, family stories, and mysterious totems. No need to fight the crowds; just stroll and look at your own pace, as if you've traveled back to the Viking era in a second. The town also has several ancient religious ruins. It's quiet, atmospheric, and history buffs will absolutely love it ✨ 3. Gothenburg archipelago island hopping | Secret healing islands Stop only going to popular islands! The hidden archipelago around Gothenburg is a real treasure, offering great value and scenery that beats the tourist hotspots. Take a boat from Saltholmen pier and head to Brännö Island first. You'll see clusters of colorful wooden houses, and there are hidden strawberry farms along the road where you can pick your own in spring and summer—sweet and fresh. Then go to Vrångö Island for a light hike. Bring binoculars, and you'll likely spot wild seals! The water is crystal clear, the sea breeze is gentle, and sitting on the coastal rocks just daydreaming will heal all your anxiety. It's a perfect, heavenly getaway 🌊 4. Gamla Uppsala royal mounds | A hidden, healing wilderness Avoid the busy Uppsala Cathedral; this is the photo spot locals keep to themselves! Three Viking-era royal burial mounds are scattered across the wilderness, offering an incredibly wide view. In spring and summer, wildflowers bloom everywhere. The green grass against the deep blue sky is vast and healing. It's so uncrowded that you can run around and take photos freely. The atmosphere is sophisticated and unique, so you don't have to worry about your photos looking like everyone else's. 📝 5-day minimalist itinerary Day 1: Arrive in Gothenburg → Rest and explore the old town, discover local food Day 2: Gothenburg archipelago island hopping day trip, immersive sea-view healing Day 3: Head to Halmstad, stroll through the castle + slow walk in the old town Day 4: Explore the runestone town, visit thousand-year-old Viking ruins Day 5: Wander around Gamla Uppsala royal mounds → Return 💰 Detailed per-person expenses (tested, real, no hidden costs) Great value throughout—not luxurious, but not stingy either. Perfect for students and working professionals! · Transportation: Round-trip airfare RMB 3,800, local commuter trains, ferries, and buses total RMB 800. The roads are great, and public transport is convenient and hassle-free · Accommodation: 4 nights in simple, characteristic Nordic guesthouses, clean and cozy, RMB 1,200 per person · Dining: Local specialty meals, desserts, and snacks throughout, RMB 120 per day, total RMB 600. Cinnamon rolls, Swedish meatballs, and seafood soup are all great choices · Tickets: Most hidden gems are free; paid hidden attractions like castles and ruins total RMB 300 ✅ Total budget: Around RMB 6,700 per person Compared to Nordic trips that easily cost over RMB 10,000, this budget is really friendly, and the whole experience is fulfilling without the exhaustion of a rushed tour! 💡 Personal travel tips The romance of Sweden is never about crowded tourist spots, but the sense of relaxation you can find everywhere. There are no noisy crowds here, and the pace is slow. Wake up to sunshine and birdsong in the morning, explore castles, visit ruins, and feel the sea breeze during the day. In the evening, eat dessert and daydream on the streets of the town. No need to rush your itinerary or force photos—just do whatever makes you comfortable. Compared to heavily commercialized tourist cities, these hidden gems hold the most authentic side of the Nordic region—healing, gentle, and textured. You'll never forget it after visiting once! ✨ Tips for hidden gem travel 1. For archipelago ferries, it's recommended to buy tickets using the local public transport app; it's much cheaper than buying on-site 2. The runestone town is best for a slow stroll; 3–4 hours is enough for photos and sightseeing 3. The temperature difference between day and night in the Nordic region is large, so bring a light jacket even if you come in summer 4. Prices at hidden attractions are relatively low, so you don't need to stock up on too many snacks in advance

⛪️✨ Uppsala Cathedral — A historic landmark in the city of Uppsala 🇸🇪 Amidst the serene atmosphere of Uppsala, a magnificent piece of architecture rises gracefully above the skyline. Uppsala Cathedral (Uppsala domkyrka) is a cornerstone of Swedish heritage with a history spanning over 750 years, having been consecrated back in 1435 (Svenska kyrkan). The cathedral’s allure lies in its striking Gothic architecture, soaring spires, and intricate interior details that whisper stories from various eras. It serves as the final resting place for several Swedish icons, including King Gustav Vasa and the world-renowned botanist Carl Linnaeus 🌿 (Svenska kyrkan). A highlight you shouldn't miss is the Skattkammaren, or Treasury. Located in the north tower, this museum showcases a collection of invaluable Swedish antiquities, textiles, and historical treasures ✨ (Svenska kyrkan). 📍 Location: Domkyrkoplan, Uppsala 🎟️ Admission: Free entry ⏰ Opening Hours: Generally open daily from 08:00–18:00 in 2026. Please note that access to certain areas may be restricted during services or concerts (Svenska kyrkan). 💫 Uppsala Cathedral is more than just an ancient church; it is a place where time has etched its stories onto every wall and tower, illuminated by the light filtering through stained-glass windows. Every step feels like a walk through the annals of Swedish history. “Timeless beauty... at the heart of Uppsala” 🤍🇸🇪

One-day city walk in Uppsala✨ This Nordic fairytale town is so photogenic! From the moment you step out of Uppsala Central Station, you'll feel instantly healed☀️ Who would have thought that Sweden's 4th-largest city hides such peaceful scenery! Stroll slowly along the riverbank, and suddenly the cathedral's spire appears, reflected on the water's surface. With a small patch of flowers in the foreground, every snapshot looks like a postcard🏰💐 📍 Route from Central Station 1️⃣ After exiting the station, head straight toward the river and take a walk along the Fyrisån riverbank. It takes about 20 minutes to see the distant view of Uppsala Cathedral. 2️⃣ Keep walking forward as the cathedral gets closer—this angle is super photogenic! The cathedral's spire, red brick exterior, green trees, and the reflection in the river blend together perfectly. 3️⃣ Walk up to the flower patch for a close-up shot with the cathedral in the background. Just standing there gives you that "cathedral amidst the swaying grass" vibe🌿 📸 Best photo spots ✅ In front of the flower patch on the left bank: Flowers in the foreground, river reflection in the mid-ground, and the cathedral in the background—the composition is stunning. ✅ Panoramic shot from the opposite bank: You can see the layers of the cathedral and the old town next to it. ✅ Front of the cathedral: The red brick building looks especially warm in the sunlight, and the close-up details are beautiful too. 🚶‍♀️ Practical tips ☀️ Definitely go on a sunny day! When the sunlight hits the red bricks and the river, the whole city looks like it's gilded in gold. 🌸 I recommend arriving between 10:00 AM–11:00 AM. The light isn't too harsh, there are fewer people, and the photos turn out really soft. 📷 Wearing light-colored clothing is great for photos, as it creates a beautiful contrast with the red bricks and green trees. ⏰ 2 hours is enough for the whole city walk. The pace is very comfortable—no need to rush. If you know, you know... This little town really hides the most gentle corner of Northern Europe. The cathedral reflection, the riverside flowers, the clear blue sky—my whole day was brightened up✨

The city of Uppsala perfectly blends academic charm with a rich history, making it the perfect place to slow down and take it all in. This itinerary focuses mainly on Uppsala University and the Uppsala Cathedral—the tallest and largest in the Nordic region. The Gustavianum is also nearby. All three spots are within walking distance, offering a highly academic vibe infused with religious and historical charm. Whether you are a traveler passionate about architecture, culture, or religion, this is a must-visit in Uppsala! Route Recommendation: 🗺️ Start at Uppsala Cathedral The cathedral is breathtakingly grand. Featuring 13th-century Gothic architecture, it stands as the tallest in the Nordics (reaching 119 meters). The stunning stained glass and massive pipe organ are definitely worth taking your time to admire. Entry to the church is free, and the moment you step inside, you'll naturally be enveloped by its solemn atmosphere. It’s an absolute prime spot for photography and experiencing Nordic history! Next, take a walk to the nearby Gustavianum (Akademigatan 3, 753 10 Uppsala; Mon 12:00-17:00, Tue-Fri 11:00-17:00, also open on weekends). Here, you can dive deep into the history of Uppsala University and see numerous precious artifacts, antique books, and academic collections. The exhibits hold a lot of historical weight. I highly recommend spending an hour here to soak it all in—perfect for art lovers and history buffs. If you have some extra time, the main building of Uppsala University is just around the corner. As a landmark and one of the oldest universities in the Nordics, the entire campus is a wonderful place for a stroll and some photos. The campus gardens are especially gorgeous in the spring and summer, making it a great addition to your route. Must-Visit & Photo Spots: · The magnificent main entrance and twin towers of Uppsala Cathedral · The stained glass windows and pipe organ inside the cathedral · The historical stone tablets on the front wall of the Gustavianum · The university's main building square This route is ideal for anyone looking to soak up Sweden's academic vibe and historical aura. A slow-paced day here won't leave you bored for a second, and you can easily add the riverside park or other city spots into the mix to truly enjoy a slow-living experience in Uppsala.

Summer in Sweden is basically a fairy tale, and I’m not even kidding! Beautiful wildflowers and lush green forests are just the beginning—Sweden actually lets you pick forest berries like raspberries, blackberries, and wild strawberries totally for FREE! Yup, you read that right. 🍓🫐 Because of Sweden’s “Allemansrätten” (The Right of Public Access), you can wander nearly anywhere in nature and collect wild berries and flowers for your own enjoyment. Just remember: respect the land, don’t trample the flowers, and pick only what you need. Nature vibes only! 🌿 Best Foraging Spots: · Popular forests near Stockholm: Tyresta National Park (Tyresta By, 135 67 Tyresö, Sweden; open 24/7!) · Gothenburg areas: Delsjön Nature Reserve (address: Delsjövägen, 416 55 Göteborg, Sweden) · Uppsala woodlands: Hågadalen-Nåsten Nature Reserve (Vårdsätravägen, 756 55 Uppsala, Sweden) Pro tips: · Peak season for berries: June to early September. · Go early in the morning for the freshest finds. · Bring a cute basket or container (instant picnic party vibes 🧺). · Don’t forget bug spray and your camera—those wildflower meadows are Instagram gold! 📍 Place: Uppsala, Sweden. ✨ What it felt like: I spent the day wandering between the riverside paths, historic streets, and the impressive cathedral that dominates the skyline. The city felt peaceful and welcoming, with a mix of academic energy and old-world charm. 👀 What stood out: The cathedral was impossible to miss and looked stunning from almost every angle. I also enjoyed walking along the river, where cafés and outdoor seating created a relaxed local vibe. Fika culture felt very much alive here, and stopping for coffee and a cinnamon bun became part of the experience. What I liked most was how walkable everything felt. Many of the highlights were close together, making it easy to explore on foot while discovering small shops, student hangouts, and quiet parks along the way. 💡 Exclusive tip: Plan a fika stop near the river in the late afternoon. The atmosphere becomes especially cozy, and it’s a great way to enjoy the city like a local without spending much. ❤️ Personal feeling: Uppsala felt gentle and unhurried. It’s the kind of place where I would happily slow down, enjoy a coffee, watch the river flow by, and spend quality time with family without needing a packed itinerary. #travel2026#travel#couplestrip#thingstodo#familytravel

Fresh out of university and on a budget trip through Northern Europe, I stayed in Stockholm for a few days. I heard that Uppsala Cathedral (Uppsala Domkyrka) is the largest Gothic cathedral in the Nordics and, best of all, it’s free to enter—perfect for someone like me watching their wallet. So, I hopped on a train to check it out. Getting there is pretty straightforward. You take the intercity train from Stockholm Central Station, and you’re at Uppsala Station in about 30 minutes. From there, it’s a 10-minute walk following the map. The path is completely exposed, though, and battling the freezing wind in winter was quite a struggle. Once inside, the sheer scale is breathtaking. The twin towers reach 118.7 meters, and the ceiling is so high my neck actually got sore looking up. It’s definitely photogenic. However, knowing this was once the site for Swedish royal coronations and burials, there’s a certain chilling sense of history that might give you the creeps if you’re easily spooked. The part I found most baffling was a contemporary realist sculpture exhibition by Sean Henry happening inside and outside the cathedral. Right there in the middle of the cathedral was a bronze statue of a middle-aged man with a crutch, and there was another one of a walking woman in the square outside. Placing sculptures of "ordinary people" in an 800-year-old monument is supposed to explore "ordinary people and faith," but honestly, catching one out of the corner of my eye gave me a real fright. It felt totally out of sync with the cathedral's classical vibe, and I just couldn't wrap my head around this kind of modern art. I originally planned to head to the nearby nature areas to spot some Nordic wildlife, but all I found outside the cathedral were a few crows huddled against the cold. In the end, it was so freezing that I retreated back indoors immediately. Regardless, since there’s no entrance fee, it’s a decent low-budget half-day trip if you’re already in Stockholm. Just don’t set your expectations too high.

Located about an hour from Stockholm, Sweden's third largest city, it's quiet and offers a natural environment. ❇️ In November, there was an illumination event, and cute lights were displayed all over the city! The sun sets early, so even after 3:00 PM, I was able to enjoy the lights like in the first photo. ♡ The sweets were delicious, and the kebab pizza was delicious too! #Sweden 🍴 Foodie Spots 📌 Useful Information

I have been about 10 times in Stockholm, Sweden and it is a wonderful city but I would highly suggest to visit this tinier city not too far from Arlanda airport. Uppsala is beautiful at fall and more compact than Stockholm. It has a pleasant old town, atmospheric restaurants and cafes, stunning city and nature viewing spots and beautiful architecture that takes you back in time. Perfect destination for #falladventures

Hey everyone! You know I'm not the type of guy to jet-set around the globe every single weekend – I much prefer my little routines back in Geneva, grabbing drinks with my buddies, and hitting up my local spots. But hey, every once in a while, you just need a change of scenery to clear your head! I recently took a quick trip to Sweden and spent a day in Uppsala. And honestly, I absolutely loved the vibe. It's the fourth-largest city in the country, but it honestly feels more like a charming, super laid-back college town. Getting there from Stockholm is a breeze: just hop on the commuter train (the pink line 40) and you'll be there in exactly an hour. Here's a quick pro-tip from a numbers geek: make sure you buy a combined SL + UL ticket, or you might be in for a nasty surprise when the conductor checks your fare. Once you're there, you don't even have to worry about public transit because the whole town is super walkable. Our first stop was the massive cathedral (Uppsala Domkyrka). It's the tallest in Scandinavia (nearly 119 meters high, I checked!). The red brick interior is seriously impressive in person. I had a crazy stroke of luck, too: when I walked in, a choir was right in the middle of a rehearsal. The way the sound echoed through the vaulted ceilings was purely magical—it literally gave me chills. There was also a temporary exhibit of ultra-realistic sculptures by Sean Henry scattered all over the place, which was almost unsettlingly lifelike. Next, we hiked up to the castle (Uppsala Slott), this huge brick-colored building surrounded by woods. The view from the esplanade overlooking the Linneanum garden down below is just gorgeous—super symmetrical and incredibly peaceful. Fun fact (thanks, Wikipedia): this is where Queen Christina abdicated the throne back in the 17th century. Because it's a student town, the university buildings are kind of dotted all over, giving the narrow streets an amazing amount of charm. We also strolled past the Linnaeus Garden (named after the famous biologist), which features a really cool maze made out of medicinal plants. To wrap up the day on a relaxed note, we took a walk along the Fyrisån river that runs right through the old town, before wandering around the pedestrian shopping area near the Åhléns mall to pick up a few souvenirs. Long story short, if you're looking for a chill, historic, and completely stress-free day trip close to Stockholm, definitely check out Uppsala! It's the perfect way to unplug and just take it easy.

When planning their first trip to Sweden, many people are tempted by the option of an organized tour from a travel agency. Running my own brand in Warsaw keeps me busy every day, so I completely understand the need for absolute peace of mind on vacation. But trust me—when it comes to Sweden, an organized tour is a guaranteed disappointment. Instead of soaking up that unique Nordic vibe, you'll just be rushing from one tour bus to another with a watch in your hand. For me, traveling is all about the food, local markets, and slowly taking in the city at my own pace. The Swedes have a wonderful "Fika" culture—celebrating coffee and cinnamon buns (kanelbullar). On a guided tour, no one is going to give you an hour just to sit in a cozy cafe and people-watch. I don't usually write long essays, but this time I've gathered plenty of specifics because the devil is in the details. Here is my summary and a few practical tips on how to organize a stress-free trip yourself: · *Transport and weather (watch out for this):** After landing at Arlanda Airport in Stockholm, under no circumstances should you take a taxi—the prices can be jaw-dropping. The airport buses to the city center are perfectly organized and much cheaper. Getting around Stockholm itself is best done by subway and local ferries—buy a multi-day SL card right away, as single-ride tickets will really burn a hole in your pocket. As for the weather and crowds: in the summer (June-August), the days are practically endless, but it can get pretty crowded with tourists, so you need to book your accommodation well in advance. Conversely, in autumn and winter, dusk falls very quickly, and it can be freezing and icy, so don't even try walking around without proper, slip-resistant shoes. If you're planning a trip to Gothenburg on an SJ train (I highly recommend this route!), buy your tickets online ahead of time—last-minute tickets are absurdly expensive. · *Food—the most important part:** Steer clear of restaurants in the strict tourist hubs (especially in Stockholm's Old Town)—the food is often average, and the prices are artificially inflated. Look for smaller eateries and local markets. In Gothenburg, you absolutely must visit the iconic fish market (Feskekôrka) and try an open-faced shrimp sandwich (räkmacka) along with some smoked salmon. For lunch, keep an eye out for places serving "Dagens Rätt" (dish of the day), which lets you enjoy a delicious, home-style meal (like classic meatballs with lingonberry jam) at a reasonable price. · Shopping tip:* If you want to bring home local delicacies, cloudberry jams, or sweets, forget about souvenir shops. Just go to a regular, large ICA supermarket. The prices are half as much, and the selection is exactly what the locals buy. And remember—you can only buy strong alcohol at the state-run Systembolaget, which has very strict opening hours (and is closed on Sundays). · *Practical nuances:** Sweden is almost 100% cashless. I didn't hold a single paper krona during my entire trip—I paid by card everywhere, even for a public toilet or a pastry at a street stall. Another crucial thing: most museums (including the brilliant Vasa Museum) are closed on Mondays. Travel agencies often stick to rigid itineraries, and it's not uncommon for tourists to find the doors locked, settling for photos from the outside. Sweden teaches you the art of slow living. Give yourself time; skip the rush to check off every single spot in the guidebook. Sometimes, it's much better to eat just one more cinnamon bun on a park bench and simply gaze at the water.
