Since I was only planning to stay at a hotel this time, I narrowed down my search based on convenient location, affordability, and bathroom facilities (cleanliness, water-resistant floors, etc.). Single beds in Scandinavia are all narrow. lol All my reservations were room-only. (The hotel in Stockholm included free breakfast.) 🏨 Scandic Helsinki Aviacongress 📍Vantaa, Finland🇫🇮 (Around Helsinki Airport) Since my first day's plan was to arrive in Helsinki and visit the sauna I had reserved, and I was leaving for Copenhagen early the next morning, I found a hotel near the airport and stayed here. The hotel offers a free shuttle bus to and from the airport, running from early in the morning. Although it's far from downtown Helsinki, there's a bus stop near the hotel, which I used to get to the city. The room was clean and spacious. The price was reasonable, so I recommend it to anyone with a similar schedule. 🏨 Copenhagen Island Hotel 📍Copenhagen, Denmark🇩🇰 Hotel prices in Copenhagen were generally higher than in other cities, perhaps because it was a Saturday or perhaps just because. I planned to take the bus to Stockholm the next day, so I chose this hotel, which was nearby the bus terminal and reasonably priced. The hotel was close to the station and bus stop, and it was only one stop to Central Station, so travel was easy. I only passed through it on my way to the station because I didn't have much time, but there's a shopping mall next to the hotel. The room was clean and tidy. 🏨 Queen's Hotel by First Hotels 📍Stockholm, Sweden🇸🇪 I searched for a budget hotel close to Stockholm Central Station. I was a little worried because it seemed a bit far to walk from the station and the hotel seemed a little old, but I booked it anyway, thinking it would be fine since I was only staying there for one night. As it turned out, it was perfectly within walking distance even with a carry-on bag, and the roads weren't too bumpy, so I got around without any issues. The room was simple but clean, with plenty of space to spread out my luggage. The elevator was an old-fashioned manual elevator, which added to the European feel. I also appreciated the free breakfast included. 🏨 Ivalo River Camping 📍Ivalo, Finland🇫🇮 During my three-day aurora viewing trip, I wanted to stay at an aurora hut on the last day, so I wanted to keep costs as low as possible for the first two nights. I chose this hotel because it had good reviews. I'd never stayed in a cottage before, and I was a little worried about what the shared facilities would be like, since the toilets and showers were outside the cottage. However, they were very well maintained and I had no problems using them. As noted on the reservation page, bed linens and towels are charged separately from the accommodation fee, so be aware of that. (€12/person - pricey!) There's also a laundry room with a washing machine and dryer, so I was able to do my laundry. (€15/3 hours - I brought my own, so I didn't use it, but detergent and other items were available.) Unfortunately, the weather was bad the night I stayed, and I couldn't see the aurora, but there was a river across the road in front, and I was able to relax and enjoy the beautiful sunset. 🏨 Holiday Village Inari 📍Inari, Finland🇫🇮 I booked this Aurora Hut, which I'd always wanted to stay at. The rooms face Lake Inari, are spacious, and have a luxurious atmosphere. There are also supermarkets and souvenir shops nearby. The room was fully stocked with cutlery and other amenities, which was convenient when eating food from the supermarket. I needed to call the staff to confirm something about a tour I'd booked personally, and they were very accommodating. Our aurora tour the day before was canceled and we had to reschedule our stay here, so we didn't have much time to relax in our room. However, when we returned from the aurora tour, the aurora was in full bloom, and we were able to see it from our room. It was truly a dreamlike experience! 🥹🤍 🏨 Scandic Simonkenttä 📍Helsinki, Finland 🇫🇮 It's located right behind Kamppi Chapel. It's directly connected to Kamppi Station, but you can also walk to Helsinki Central Station. The tram stops right in front of the hotel, so it was convenient for getting to the ferry terminal in one go when going to Tallinn. Kamppi Station is home to Kamppi Center, a large shopping mall with a Marimekko store and a supermarket. The supermarket was open fairly late, which was helpful since I was short on time. There is also a 24-hour supermarket closer to the central station. The hotel is in a great location, making it easy to get to anywhere, so I highly recommend it for sightseeing in Helsinki. This time, I boarded the Kansai International Airport to Helsinki route. I was given a welcome drink as soon as I boarded. I chose the blueberry drink! If you're flying, you absolutely have to try it! 🫐It was so delicious that I ended up buying the blueberry juice Finnair offers at a local supermarket. 🥹 I ate two meals a day: dinner and breakfast! The address is Tammiston kauppatie 10, it’s in the other end of a huge Plantagen Flower shop. You don’t need any equipment to try and there are suitable walls for every skill level. Admission for one person is 12 euros (2022). If you are a member, you can also use the gym located in the same premises. The Clarion hotel is a lovely hotel that's only a 5 mins taxi ride, 5 mins train ride or 20 min walk from Helsinki airport. The hotel is hip and modern and the rooms are cozy and many feature great views. It's very quiet around the area so dining options are limited. However the hotel also boasts a nice gym, and a comfortable sauna. Breakfast is also included and it is in a buffet style with many options to choose from. If you find yourself connecting through Helsinki airport, you're in a for a treat. The airport is home to Finnair, but countless other carriers also serve it. The Schengen area is more of the traditional styled airports however the non Schengen side is the real gem. Usually airports are dull and you can't wait to get out of them. However, Helsinki airport was a joy to be in, even for 5 hours. First, the airport is spacious, modern and clean. Second, there are countless amenities catered to different tastes. For instance, there are different chairs: from rocking chairs to flat bed like seats. There is also drinking water available throughout the terminal. One of my favorites, however are the giant screens that show different scenes and sounds from Finland's nature. This coupled with outside the normal rush hours offers a very calm and quiet stay at this airport. All in all, a smooth and calming experience; something that airports are not always known for. #airport #helsinki

Helsinki is quite a bike friendly city. There are numerous bike paths that run into and out of the city. In fact I'd you have time and are up for the challenge, you can even bike from Helsinki airport to the city center. Let me warn you: it is quite challenging! Nonetheless, the whole journey is done on bike paths, so it's extremely safe. It's simply quite long; around 20 km and a good 2+ hrs. Along the way, however, you pass through some lovely Finnish landscapes that are so relaxing and calming. You'll see flower fields and rivers, which add some variety to your journey. These are really pretty and relaxing to enjoy especially in summer. You really get a sense of Finland as you also pass through several residential areas and parks. I recommend doing this trek in summer when it's nice outside and the weather is warmer. Remember however to bring a windbreaker in case and plenty of water. You can stop and enjoy the lovely scenes on the way so resting isn't an issue. You'll be able to enjoy nature while getting into the city in an economical, healthy and non polluting way.

The airport is located in the town of Vantaa near Helsinki, but internationally it's known as Vantaa (Helsinki). Vantaa Airport is probably my favorite airport I've ever been to. It's large, yet intuitive and very comfortable. The interiors are simple but very Scandinavian in style: Karelian birch wood trim, rock gardens, exotic sculptures, and chairs reminiscent of sun loungers! There are plenty of waiting areas: in all the times I've flown out of it, we've never run out of space. There's a certain calm and tranquility to the airport, though it seems like an airport and tranquility are incompatible. For some reason, the restrooms are especially memorable – with the sounds of birdsong and a green wall of artificial grass. Of course, there are shops, places to eat, sleeping pods, and even work areas. Useful information about Vantaa Airport: If you're traveling from Helsinki, the easiest way to get to the airport is by train from Rautentori Central Station. Flights to the airport are marked with airplanes on the flight board. The journey takes about 25-30 minutes. If you're flying into Vantaa, you can grab a bite at Burger King near the exit. There's also an Alepa store for groceries for the trip home. I'm very comfortable there! I recommend considering it if you have a valid Schengen visa.
