Hautes-Alpes travel guide and discussion

You and I might be very familiar with the story of "The Little Prince", but what about the story of its author? To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the publication of "The Little Prince" in France, the University Museum and Art Gallery of the University of Hong Kong and the Alliance Française de Hong Kong jointly present "The Little Prince and the Aviator" exhibition, taking visitors on a thematic journey through the life of the author, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Featuring rare photographs, letters, maps, personal belongings, manuscripts, and original book editions, the exhibition introduces visitors to Saint-Exupéry, a legendary figure with multiple identities: a family man, friend, writer, illustrator, aviation pioneer, and explorer. Born in a war-torn era, Saint-Exupéry took up flying after failing to gain his family's support to become a painter. He survived a plane crash and later published several works about aviation. Before he returned to the battlefield, "The Little Prince" was just days away from its official release; while he was worrying about the market reaction, the book was already a massive success. The philosophical meaning of the story has stood the test of time and continues to deeply touch people's hearts today. The exhibits are incredibly precious and truly worth savoring in detail.

Tucked away in the French Alps, Le Chazelet is a tiny mountain hamlet belonging to the commune of La Grave, with barely 50 residents — yet it offers one of the most charming and authentic ski experiences you can find in France. This small, family-friendly ski station sits directly facing the legendary La Meije massif, providing breathtaking views throughout the day. The resort itself is simple but perfectly designed for relaxation and accessibility, with four drag lifts and one chairlift, making it ideal for beginners, families, and anyone looking for a peaceful alternative to large, crowded resorts. One of the biggest advantages of Le Chazelet is the price. Day passes are often around €20, which is extremely affordable compared to most Alpine ski areas. The atmosphere is relaxed, uncrowded, and welcoming — the kind of place where you can truly enjoy skiing without stress. But Le Chazelet isn’t just for beginners. For more experienced skiers, the area also offers excellent off-piste opportunities, combining gentle family slopes with more adventurous terrain. And for those seeking world-class freeride, the famous La Grave – La Meije area is literally just across the valley. You can easily spend a day there exploring legendary off-piste routes and then return to the calm comfort of Le Chazelet. The location is also incredibly convenient. The resort lies roughly: · 30 minutes from Les Deux Alpes · 30 minutes from Alpe d’Huez · 30 minutes from Serre Chevalier · Between Briançon and Grenoble regions This means you can enjoy the tranquility of a small resort while still having access to major ski domains for day trips if you want more variety. On-site, you’ll find a few small slope-side snack restaurants that are friendly and authentic, plus some local dining options in the village itself. For larger grocery shopping or more services, the main village of La Grave is only about 15 minutes by car, making everything easily accessible. Le Chazelet is the perfect destination for travelers looking for affordable skiing, stunning scenery, family atmosphere, and authentic Alpine charm — with the bonus of legendary freeride terrain just next door. If you want to experience the Alps differently, far from the crowds, Le Chazelet is a true hidden gem. #skitrip #france #ski #winter
