🏔️ Crown of the Alps: Why Zermatt & the Iconic Matterhorn Belong on Every Travel Bucket List! 🇨🇭✨ Nestled at the foot of Europe’s most legendary pyramid peak, Zermatt is the quintessential alpine wonderland. Perched at 1,600 metres in the Valais canton, this car-free resort village seamlessly pairs historic timber chalets and cobblestone lanes with high-altitude adventures and Michelin-starred mountain dining. Towering above the skyline is the unmistakable, tooth-shaped silhouette of the Matterhorn (4,478 m). Whether visiting to hike alpine lakes, ride Europe’s highest cableways, or ski across international borders, Zermatt offers an unforgettable alpine escape year-round. 🚠 Top Experiences in Zermatt & the Matterhorn Ride the Gornergrat Cogwheel Railway: Board Europe’s oldest open-air electric cogwheel train from Zermatt station up to the Gornergrat ridge at 3,089 metres. The summit platform offers a 360-degree panorama of 29 peaks rising above 4,000 metres and the massive Gorner Glacier. Photograph the Reflection at Lake Riffelsee: Hop off the Gornergrat train at Rotenboden and take a gentle 10-minute walk down to Riffelsee. On calm, windless mornings, the lake surface creates a mirror reflection of the east face of the Matterhorn. Ascend to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise: Glide up on the Matterhorn Glacier Ride 3S cable car to Europe’s highest mountain station at 3,883 metres. Walk through carved ice caverns inside the Glacier Palace, step onto the 360-degree viewing platform overlooking three countries, and enjoy year-round summer glacier skiing. Trek the Five Lakes Trail (5-Seenweg): Beginning at Blauherd and descending toward Sunnegga, this classic 9.8-kilometre hiking trail passes Stellisee, Grindjisee, Grünsee, Moosjisee, and Leisee, each offering distinct viewpoints of the iconic peak. Stroll the Historic Hinterdorf Quarter: Wander through the preserved heart of Zermatt village, where over 30 traditional timber barns, storehouses, and chalets built between the 16th and 18th centuries stand elevated on round flat stones (Mäuseplatten) to deter rodents. 💡 Essential Travel Tips Best Time to Visit: Summer & Early Autumn (June–October): Best for clear alpine hiking trails, blooming meadows, and mountain biking. Winter (December–April): A premier winter sports hub offering 360 kilometres of interconnected ski pistes, including runs spanning across the border into Breuil-Cervinia, Italy. Car-Free Village Logistics: Private combustion cars are prohibited in Zermatt. Drivers must park at the massive terminal in Täsch and take the shuttle train (running every 20 minutes) into town. Within the village, get around on foot, by e-taxi, or via the green e-bus network. Getting There by Train: Take the SBB Swiss Federal Railways to Visp or Brig, then switch directly to the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB) for the scenic valley climb into Zermatt. Altitude & Weather: Temperatures drop dramatically above 3,000 metres, even on sunny summer days. Dress in layers, carry a windproof outer shell, and use high-SPF sunscreen and UV-rated sunglasses due to intense alpine glare. #travel #naturalwonders #myitinerary #travel2026 #thingstodo #familytravel

Everyone knows the legendary Swiss panoramic trains like the Glacier Express or Bernina Express. They are absolutely stunning, but they also require expensive mandatory seat reservations and sell out months in advance. Want to know the ultimate travel hack? You can ride the exact same tracks and see the exact same breathtaking views using regular regional trains with just a standard Interrail or Swiss Travel Pass! 🎫🏔️ Here is how to travel the best Swiss routes on a budget without missing a single view: 1. The Bernina & Albula Hack (Chur – St. Moritz – Tirano) 🛤️ Skip the Bernina Express and hop on the regular red RhB trains. You will pass over the iconic Landwasser Viaduct and climb the spectacular Bernina Pass just the same. The best part? Many regular regional coaches still have windows that roll all the way down, meaning you get crystal-clear, glare-free photos! 📸 Take a break in the luxurious alpine town of St. Moritz before winding your way down into Italy. 2. The Glacier Express Hack (Chur – Andermatt & Zermatt) 🏔️ You don't need to pay extra for the "slowest express in the world." Ride the regular Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB) trains through the epic Rhine Gorge and up over the Oberalp Pass to Andermatt. Want to reach Zermatt? Just switch to the regular hourly regional train in Visp. The epic cogwheel climb up the valley and that first jaw-dropping view of the Matterhorn are exactly the same! 3. The Gotthard Classic (Göschenen – Lugano) 🌴 Don't bother with the premium Gotthard Panorama Express. Take the Treno Gottardo (or regional TILO trains) over the historic mountain route. You skip the massive 57km base tunnel and instead experience the famous spiral tunnels—watching the little church of Wassen pass by from three completely different angles! ⛪ At the end of the line, Mediterranean vibes and palm trees await you in stunning Lugano. 4. The Cliffside Narrow-Gauge (Locarno – Domodossola) 🌉 The Centovalli railway connects Swiss Locarno with Italian Domodossola, winding through deep gorges, lush forests, and over dozens of dizzying viaducts. With an Interrail pass, just hop on the standard international trains and enjoy the breathtaking drops into the valleys without any special tourist fees. 5. The GoldenPass Hack (Zweisimmen – Montreux) 🍇 Want to see the dramatic shift from rugged alpine pastures to sweeping vineyards? Ride the regular MOB narrow-gauge trains on the GoldenPass route. You'll wind down the steep mountainside directly into Montreux, greeted by the massive, sparkling expanse of Lake Geneva. 🌊 Traveling on regional trains isn't a compromise—it is the ultimate freedom. You can hop on and off whenever you want, open the windows for photos, and rely on the flawless Swiss timetable. ⏱️ Which of these legendary train routes is at the absolute top of your bucket list? Zermatt is really beautiful! In early October, the sun was shining and daytime temperature was around 21°C. At night, it gets colder. Everywhere you turn, you can see mountains in the background. Even walking around the village is so scenic! Zermatt has always been my dream place to visit. I'm so happy I finally got to come here and stay for a few nights. 🥹❤️ That's why most of my Switzerland souvenirs are from Zermatt or Zermatt-related. I wanted to bring home little keepsakes from my dream destination. 🚆 Getting to Zermatt We took the train from Zurich Airport to Visp, then changed to another train to Zermatt. The journey was scenic, but changing trains with luggage means lugging your bags up and down. Quite tiring if you have big suitcases! 🏔️ Things to Do in Zermatt Many people say Zermatt is expensive, and I agree! 😂 It's beautiful, but you need to budget for it. We went to Gornergrat (I've shared this in my other post), took the Glacier Express and explored Zermatt village on foot. Zermatt is a car-free village. Normal private cars aren't allowed, but electric taxis and authorised vehicles operate here. It's nice to walk around and enjoy the mountain views. 🏘️ ✨ More Things to Do If you have more time, you can consider: 🚠 Matterhorn Glacier Paradise — Take the cable car up for glacier and mountain views. 🌿 Five Lakes Walk — A scenic hike with beautiful lakes and possible Matterhorn reflections. 🏞️ Sunnegga — Another viewpoint with walking trails. 🌲 Furi Suspension Bridge & Gorner Gorge — For nature walks and forest scenery. 🏛️ Matterhorn Museum — Learn about Zermatt and the Matterhorn's history. 🏡 Zmutt — Visit this traditional hamlet with old wooden chalets. I didn't manage to do everything this time, so there's still more to explore if I come back again! ❤️ 🛍️ My Zermatt Souvenirs Of course I had to buy souvenirs! 😂 From magnets and stickers to mugs, keychains and other little things, I found quite a lot of Zermatt-themed items. Now whenever I look at them, I'll remember the trip that finally brought me to my dream destination. 🇨🇭❤️ 📷📸Oppo X8 + Iphone 16pro max #Zermatt #Switzerland #ZermattSouvenirs #Matterhorn #SwissSouvenirs #TravelMemories

🇨🇭 Switzerland Trip Begins! | Singapore → Zurich → Zermatt (29–30 September 2026) Finallyyyy, Switzerland trip day! 😂🇨🇭 🎟️btw yes we buy 15 days swiss pass We arrived at Changi Airport early at 8pm and got ready for SQ346 to Zurich in Premium Economy. Before boarding, I checked the CHF exchange rates because I still had some Singapore dollars to change. At one counter, the rate was CHF 1 = S$1.58. I then checked Terminal 1 and found another counter offering CHF 1 = S$1.57, so I changed some more SGD there instead. Then came my airport purchase. 😂 Dior sunglasses — S$779 😎 Town price was S$850, so I saved S$71 by buying them at the airport. And then there's my little Switzerland beauty experiment. 🤣 I wanted my nails to look pretty for the trip, so I bought press-on nails from SHEIN and used KISS nail glue to stick them on. I knew they might not survive all the luggage handling, but I thought okay lah, let's try. I glued them in the morning of my departure day. The flight departed around 1:25am and supper came pretty early. By 2:50am I was done eating. There was A LOT of food 😂 I was so full that I didn't even finish the roti. I am wearing Invisalign aligners, Tray #43. The aligners stayed out after the meal because I was thinking I might still have juice or snacks later, so I wasn't rushing to put them back in. 5:13am Singapore time — 8 hours 37 minutes remaining, and I had just gone to the loo. I slept a bit after that, trying to get comfortable on the plane. 5:28am — LEFT THUMB PRESS-ON: GONE. 😭😂 I didn't bother fixing it on the plane. With all the zippers, pockets, luggage and general travelling around, I think the poor thing had enough. 4 hours 30 minutes remaining / 9:15am Singapore time — loo + brushed my teeth. I looked at the flight map and I think we were flying over Tehran, based on the screen. ✈️🌍 3 hours 51 minutes remaining — had a muffin. 🧁 11. 30am Singapore time — breakfast! Had mee siam, yoghurt, bread and fruits. I had Milo and orange juice. 🍜🍊 12. 58pm Singapore time | 6:58am Zurich time — waiting for landingggg! ✈️ Only 1 hour 2 minutes till landing. Almost thereeeee. 😂🇨🇭 The Premium Economy cabin was full, so looks like quite alot of people were heading to Zurich too. And finally... 8:00am Zurich time — LANDED! 🇨🇭🎉 Disembarked and officially arrived in Switzerland. 🥹🏔️ Nails status: 7/10 survive 🤣 But the trip wasn't over yet. Next mission: Zurich Airport → Zermatt. 🚆 We missed our first train, so our next train to Visp was at 11:46am. Transfer from Visp to Zermatt, the train ride was really nice and felt a bit like a mini Glacier Express experience. Mountains, scenery and finally seeing the Swiss landscape properly after arriving by plane. 🏔️🚆 Reached Zermatt at 3:17pm. Then came the final mission of the day — dragging our bags through Zermatt in the fresh mountain air to our accommodation. 🤣 After a long flight, missed train, train rides and dragging luggage around... WE FINALLY MADE IT. 🇨🇭🥹 Switzerland trip officially started. 📍Checked in at Le Perla Apartments, booked from Trip.com of course. Nails status: 5/10 survive #Switzerland #Zurich #Zermatt #SingaporeToSwitzerland #SQ346 #PremiumEconomy #TravelDiary #TripMoments #SwitzerlandTrip #SingaporeAirlines

🚩 Encountering Valais Blacknose sheep in Zermatt, Switzerland—a limited-time surprise for September–October! Who says Switzerland is only about Jungfrau and Interlaken? This time, near Visp station, I stumbled upon a flock of Valais Blacknose sheep wandering in the mountains. It was even more exciting than finding a hidden treasure! 📍 Route Start from Visp station and follow the mountain trail for about 20 minutes to find the flock. ✨ The encounter Just after getting off the train, I saw a few black dots on the distant hillside. As I got closer, I realized they were super cute Valais Blacknose sheep! With their distinct black-and-white faces and fluffy, curly wool, they stood perfectly still on the golden grass, looking just like living plush toys. The autumn sun shone on the hillside, dotted with scattered trees, while the snowy mountains in the distance were partially visible. The scene was incredibly healing. 📸 Photo tips Squat down to get at eye level with the sheep for natural-looking photos of you making eye contact with them. Use the afternoon sun for backlit shots to capture the sheep's silhouette; the edges of their wool will have a golden glow. Don't worry about the sheep running away; they are super calm, so it's easy to get good shots if you approach slowly. 💡 Practical tips Remember to check the signs after getting off at Visp station; heading in the right direction is important. Wear comfortable shoes. The mountain path has some inclines, but it's not too difficult. The weather is already cool in September–October, so I recommend wearing a light down jacket or a windbreaker. The light is best around 10:00 AM, and the sheep are most active then. If you're worried about not finding the flock, you can ask the local herders; they are very friendly. This unexpected discovery helped me understand why many people say autumn is the best season to visit Switzerland. No noisy crowds, just quiet snowy mountains, leisurely sheep, and that sense of happiness that makes time slow down. If you also want to encounter these little cuties, remember to visit in September–October!

🇨🇭 After visiting Switzerland before, I’d say this is one of the easiest 6-day routes for a first trip. The biggest lesson from my own trip: don’t pack too much into each day. Switzerland is best enjoyed slowly — the train rides, lakes and mountain views are part of the experience. Day 1: Zurich Old Town, Grossmünster & Lake Zurich. Day 2: Zurich → Lucerne Take IR70 / IR75. Explore Chapel Bridge, Lion Monument & Lake Lucerne. Day 3: Lucerne → Interlaken Take the Luzern–Interlaken Express. The journey itself is beautiful. Day 4: Jungfrau Region Grindelwald, First, Lauterbrunnen & Staubbach Falls. Day 5: Interlaken → Zermatt Via Visp. Spend the afternoon enjoying Zermatt and the Matterhorn. Day 6: Gornergrat Take the Gornergrat Railway for one of the best Matterhorn views. If I travel Switzerland again, I’d still choose fewer places, less hotel changing, and more time to enjoy the scenery. 🇨🇭 Zurich → Lucerne → Interlaken → Jungfrau → Zermatt is a very comfortable first-time Switzerland route.

Between the Swiss canton of Valais and the Bernese Oberland lies an icy dragon stretching across the mountains: the Aletsch Glacier. It extends south from the northern slopes of the Jungfrau, Mönch, and Eiger peaks, spanning about 23 kilometers in length, with an average width of 1,500 meters and a maximum depth of 900 meters. With a total weight of approximately 2.7 billion tons, it is the largest and longest glacier in the Alps. In 2001, the Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn region was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, becoming the first natural site in the Alps to receive this honor. The best way to view the Aletsch Glacier is to ascend one of its three observation points. The Eggishorn, at an altitude of 2,869 meters, is known as the "Swiss Ice Palace." Standing here, you can see the glacier like a silver dragon drawing a massive S-curve through the valley, winding between snow-capped peaks. In your field of view, the Jungfrau, Mönch, Eiger, and Matterhorn peaks line up, making every snapshot look like a postcard. Additionally, the Bettmerhorn and Moosfluh observation points offer their own unique perspectives. Three cable car routes can transport you into this world of ice and snow: from Fiesch to Eggishorn, from Betten to Bettmerhorn, and from Mörel to Moosfluh. The three car-free villages on the mountainside—Riederalp, Bettmeralp, and Fiescheralp—preserve the purest Alpine charm. You can hike along the edge of the glacier for hours, stop by Lake Märjelen, or overlook the entire glacier from the Sphinx Observatory at an altitude of 3,500 meters. However, this icy dragon, formed over millions of years, is melting at an alarming rate. Over the past 40 years, the Aletsch Glacier has retreated by more than 1,300 meters. Scientists warn that if greenhouse gas emissions continue, it could disappear completely before 2100. While the glacier is still here, go see it. Standing before it, you will understand what it means to be truly awestruck. Switzerland: Aletsch Glacier Address: Jungfrau-Aletsch World Heritage Site, Valais, Switzerland Transportation: Take a train from Brig or Visp to Fiesch, Betten, or Mörel, then transfer to a cable car to ascend the mountain

On July 19, we transferred from Zurich to Zermatt. We needed to change to a cogwheel train at Visp to reach the town. The entire journey took a little over three hours. The cogwheel train from Visp to Zermatt offers a unique scenic experience, completely different from the gentle beauty of Mount Rigi. The view is filled with majestic alpine valleys, creating a powerful visual impact. We arrived in Zermatt before 3 PM. Since the hotel check-in wasn’t ready, we first stored our luggage and went out for a stroll. The town was lively and bustling with tourists. The town center had set up a special viewing area for the World Cup. On the day of the final, the square was packed and full of energy at night. After wandering around the town, we booked tickets in advance for the cogwheel train to Gornergrat the next day to see the Matterhorn. Using the Swiss Travel Pass, the ticket cost 66 CHF per person. Then we went to Coop to buy groceries before returning to the hotel. We stayed in a suite with a kitchen, finally able to cook for ourselves and soothe our stomachs after days of eating out. The weather was especially pleasant that day. Zermatt’s climate was comfortable and sunny, making it easy to enjoy walking around without feeling tired. In the evening, we cooked a simple hot pot at the hotel, relaxing and cozy. At 8:30 PM, we headed to Murini Viewpoint to wait for the stunning blue hour of the Matterhorn. Navigation tip: just search for Murini viewpoint to navigate there. The walk to the viewpoint involves a bit of uphill climbing, taking about 20 to 30 minutes, which can be tiring. The viewpoint offers a wide, unobstructed view where Zermatt and the majestic Matterhorn appear together in a breathtaking scene. In Swiss summer, it gets dark very late—night falls around 10 PM here. We waited quietly and finally witnessed the enchanting blue hour: the town’s lights twinkled like stars, with the towering Matterhorn standing silently behind. The scene was breathtaking, making the uphill climb completely worthwhile. The wind is strong on the mountain viewpoint, so be sure to bring an extra jacket. It’s best to arrive early to secure a good spot for photos. The walk back down is all downhill, making it easy and effortless. Surrounded by the peaceful mountain night, we returned to our lodging and fell into a deep sleep, ending another perfect day.

Lauterbrunnen Valley is a glacial valley in the Bernese Oberland of Switzerland, famous for its towering cliffs, numerous waterfalls, and typical Alpine village scenery. This valley is often considered one of Switzerland's most iconic natural landscapes and serves as a vital gateway for hiking, mountaineering, skiing, and traveling to the Jungfrau region. Major Attractions The most representative sights in the valley include the Staubbach Falls, which cascade down a nearly 297-meter vertical cliff, and the Trümmelbach Falls, which flow through multiple cave layers inside the mountain. Surrounded by typical Alpine pastures, wooden chalet clusters, and magnificent peaks, they collectively form a highly recognizable Swiss mountain landscape. Key Surrounding Attractions The following locations together form the most popular tourist routes in the Jungfrau region: Topography and Natural Features The Lauterbrunnen Valley is a quintessential U-shaped glacial valley formed by ancient glacier erosion, with rock walls reaching hundreds of meters in height. The valley is renowned for its roughly 72 waterfalls, many of which originate from high mountain snowmelt and underground water systems, creating distinct water volumes and landscapes across different seasons. Travel Experience The valley itself is an important transport hub for exploring the Jungfrau region, providing access to high-altitude villages like Wengen, Mürren, and Kleine Scheidegg via mountain railways, cable cars, or hiking trails. Summer is ideal for hiking, rock climbing, paragliding, and photography; while winter connects to nearby large ski resorts, offering views of the snow-covered valley and the Alps. Its convenient transportation and dense natural scenery make it one of Switzerland's most popular mountain tourist destinations. July 15 Grindelwald First Half-Day + Head to Montreux Morning: Grindelwald First Cliff Walk If energy permits, you can hike to Bachalpsee Afternoon: Head to the next stop: If Montreux, it takes about 2.5–3 hours. July 17 Lake View Wrap-up + Head to Zermatt in the morning (Relaxed wrap-up) Morning walk by the lake Sip coffee while watching the Jet d’Eau Take some final city shots Depart in the morning Route: Geneva → Visp → Zermatt takes about 3.5–4 hours July 17 Arrival + Slow Town Tour (Half-day) After check-in, stroll through the Old Town Explore Bahnhofstrasse Check out the traditional wooden chalets Find a nice view restaurant for dinner Snap the Matterhorn at dusk Pro tip: Don't schedule high-altitude activities today, save your energy. July 18 Most Important: Gornergrat Full Scenic Day. Start early: Take the Gornergrat Railway up the mountain Gornergrat Riffelsee Riffelberg Hike This is the most classic day in Zermatt. Recommended time: 6–8 hours. The Gornergrat Railway is a high-altitude cogwheel railway in Switzerland, connecting Zermatt with Gornergrat. It is renowned for its spectacular Alpine views, up-close perspectives of the Matterhorn, and year-round mountain sightseeing experiences, making it one of Switzerland's most iconic mountain railways. Route and Experience Spanning about 9 kilometers, the railway uses **rack railway** technology to conquer steep gradients, climbing from Zermatt at around 1,600 meters above sea level to over 3,000 meters at Gornergrat. Along the way, you can admire forests, alpine meadows, glaciers, and perennially snow-capped peaks. The terminal features an observation deck offering sweeping views of several 4,000-meter peaks and the famous Matterhorn. History and Features Officially opened in 1898, the Gornergrat Railway is one of the world's first fully electrified cog railways. Because general combustion-engine cars are banned in Zermatt, this railway has long been a crucial transport mode for tourists heading to alpine attractions, also symbolizing the development of Swiss mountain railway engineering and sustainable tourism. Four-Season Activities Different seasons bring completely different experiences. Summer is great for hiking, photography, and observing alpine flora; winter links up with ski areas, offering snowy landscapes and glacier views. Dawn and dusk are especially popular with photographers, as clear weather perfectly mirrors the Matterhorn and highlights the vast Alpine scenery. July 19 Glacier World + High-Altitude Cable Car Main goals: Matterhorn Glacier Paradise Ice Palace observation deck snow experience Afternoon: Can connect to Schwarzsee This is the most mind-blowing day, but expect strong winds and low temperatures. July 20 Before flying home: Sunnegga Easy Half-Day. If your flight leaves Zurich Airport at 18:45 on July 20 and you are still in Zermatt the night before, you actually have plenty of time, but it's not recommended to plan high-risk mountain activities that day. Return Transit Time (Crucial) From Zermatt to Zurich Airport: · Zermatt → Visp (About 1h10) · Visp → Zurich (About 2h) · Zurich HB → Zurich Airport (About 10–15 mins) Total estimated time: About 3.5–4 hours International flight recommendation: Arrive at the airport 2.5–3 hours before takeoff, suggested arrival by 14:00 Which means: 👉 It is highly recommended to leave Zermatt between 09:30 and 10:00 at the latest (To stay on the safe side and keep it stress-free)

Anyone know, sisters!!! I stayed three nights in Zermatt, Switzerland, and I don’t want to go back home😭 The Alps in July are truly the peak of paradise. A natural 22°C air-conditioned room, and right outside the door are snow-capped mountains, meadows, and lakes all in one stunning view💥 🚂 First, how to get into this "car-free town" Since 1961, Zermatt has banned all fuel-powered vehicles and only allows electric carts. If you drive, you must park at Täsch, which costs 17 CHF per day. Take a ticket when entering the lot and pay at the machine when leaving. Then take the shuttle train into town. It costs 8 CHF per person one way, runs every 12 minutes, and takes about 10 minutes. ⚠️ Important: If you have a Swiss Half Fare Card (adult monthly card 150 CHF in 2026), this shuttle train is half price! Driving from Geneva is about 200 km and 3 hours, passing Montreux and Château de Chillon, which are great stops along the way. By train, it takes about 3.5 hours from Zurich to Zermatt with one transfer at Visp. 🏡 How to choose accommodation ⛰️ The mountain-view cabin I stayed in is on Bahnhofstrasse, turn south into the second alley, a six-minute walk from the train station, quiet yet central. ⛰️ The entire wall of floor-to-ceiling windows faces the Matterhorn. In the morning, you don’t even have to get out of bed to watch the golden sunrise slowly paint the mountain peak—it’s so moving it might bring tears. ⛰️ The balcony has a wooden long table and rattan chairs. At night, open a bottle of local Valais white wine🍷 and gaze at the starry sky. The summer night breeze carries the scent of pine—absolutely perfect. July is peak season, with average hotel prices over 3,000 CHF per night. Booking at least two months in advance is recommended! To save money, stay in Täsch where guesthouses cost half as much. It’s just a 20-minute shuttle train ride into town each day. 🌅 Early morning sunrise chase · Riffelsee lake reflection This was my most magical experience on the whole trip, no contest!! Sunrise in July is around 5:50 AM. You need to leave town at 4:30 AM and take the first Gornergrat mountain train from the GGB station opposite Zermatt train station. 🔸 Get off at Rotenboden station (2,819 m elevation), then a 10-minute walk to Riffelsee lake 🔸 On windless mornings, the lake surface is like a mirror, perfectly reflecting the triangular shape of the Matterhorn across the water 🔸 The golden sunrise lasts about 15–20 minutes. It’s best to set up your phone in advance for a time-lapse ⚠️ Morning temperatures on the mountain in July are about 5–8°C. Bring a windbreaker and fleece. Don’t wear short sleeves or you’ll freeze. 🚠 Gornergrat viewing platform · 360° Alpine panorama From Rotenboden, continue by train to the final stop, Gornergrat (3,089 m elevation). This is the terminus of Switzerland’s oldest electric cog railway, opened in 1898. 🔸 Round-trip full fare is 132 CHF. Buy tickets in advance at gornergrat.ch to avoid at least 20 minutes of waiting. 🔸 The summit viewing platform offers views of 29 peaks over 4,000 m, including the Matterhorn, Dufourspitze, glaciers, and more—all in one breathtaking panorama 🔸 Don’t miss the free ZooM experience—an immersive multimedia installation using AR technology to "walk inside" the Matterhorn 🔸 There’s a restaurant at the top where lunch costs about 28 CHF for pasta. It’s pricey but the view is worth it. The Matterhorn is backlit in the afternoon, so plan your visit to the viewing platform in the morning! 🥾 Five lakes hike · the soul of Zermatt If you only do one thing, choose the five lakes hike! It’s 8.1 km and takes about 4 hours with stops for photos. 📍 Route: Take the cable car from Zermatt to Blauherd (2,571 m) → Stellisee → Grindjisee → Grünsee → Moosjisee → Leisee → Sunnegga cable car down 🔸 Cable car tickets: Zermatt to Blauherd one way 36.5 CHF, Sunnegga return one way 20 CHF, round trip 58 CHF 🔸 Stellisee is the largest of the five lakes. Early morning is best for reflections (though most people arrive at noon, so catching a windless moment is luck) 🔸 Grindjisee’s shores bloom with alpine rhododendrons in June and July, with the Matterhorn as a stunning backdrop 🔸 Leisee is the last lake, with a wooden boardwalk extending into the lake’s center. It’s the classic spot for a Matterhorn photo ⚠️ The last Sunnegga cable car is at 5:20 PM! Missing it means a 1.5-hour hike down, so watch your time carefully 🔸 If your stamina is average, skip the third lake, Grünsee, to save 30 minutes. 💡 Money-saving tips 🔸 The 2026 Swiss Travel Pass is 439 CHF for 8 consecutive days in second class (a 15% increase from 2025), ideal for intensive sightseeing 🔸 If you only stay in Zermatt for two or three days, the Half Fare Card plus single tickets is more cost-effective, saving you hundreds 🔸 The Gornergrat train and five lakes cable cars are both half price with the Half Fare Card! 🔸 Meals in town average 35–50 CHF per person. You can also buy groceries at Coop or Migros, which offer discounts after 7 PM. Zermatt in July has very long daylight hours, with sunset after 9:20 PM, giving you plenty of time to explore and walk around! Ask any questions in the comments below👇

🗓️Itinerary🗓️ 🚃Bern ↓ 🚃Visp ↓ 🚃Zermatt (Travel time: 2 hours 10 minutes/using Swiss Travel Pass) I left Bern station and first moved to Visp for about an hour. However, there was some trouble when I left Bern station, so I was delayed by 10 minutes💦💦 I only had 6 minutes to transfer at Visp, so I hoped to make up for it, but it didn't work😇 I didn't need to rush, so I decided to just take the next train at Visp. On the train to Visp, there were many people who had to transfer, so I asked the attendant if we would make it in time, but he said, "You'll be fine!" lol. In the end, we didn't make it at all, and everyone took the next train 🤭 Then, the train from Visp to Zermatt was moving slowly and didn't move at all 😅 The journey from Bern to Zermatt takes 2 hours and 10 minutes In the end, it took a little over 3 hours 🤭 Troubles like this are inevitable when traveling 👍🏻 Although we were late, we arrived at Zermatt before sunset ⛰️ I was thinking of having dinner at the supermarket, so I went to the coop first 🛒 (the coop closes at 8pm) I bought dinner and checked into the hotel to put my luggage down ✅ After putting my luggage down, I headed to the Japanese Bridge, where I could get a good view of the Matterhorn!
