Wonderful Bhutan
Two continents, four incredible places, and a flight with the best mountain views ever—let’s go! On this whirlwind journey, we flew from Kathmandu to Bhutan (grab that left-side window seat to spot Mt. Everest, trust me, it’s epic 🏔️). Bhutan is only accessible via tour, so prep in advance.
Top Spots to Visit
Wangdi Phodrang: Don’t miss the peaceful Gangtey Monastery (F5M8+V2J Phobjikha Valley, Nubding, Bhutan; Open: 08:00–17:00). Spend the morning wandering prayer halls and catch mountain views, plus the mystical Phobjikha Valley known for rare black-necked cranes.
Tiger’s Nest Monastery. A trip to Bhutan is incomplete without a visit to the most iconic monastery in the world, Taktsang Monastery most commonly known as Tiger’s Nest Monastery. You will take an early morning
breakfast, stretch your legs, and get ready for a rewarding short hike. This hike is challenging and is
the main reason that protects this unbelievable attraction from being congested. Once you've passed
the dense forest you will get a fantastic glimpse of the shiny monastery, somehow aggressively pressed
on the wall over the valley floor. Take a tour of the building inside out along with a panoramic view of
the Paro valley. This quiet spot was used as a meditation cave in the 8th century and later as a
monastery in the 17th century.
Explore the National Memorial Chorten built in the loving memory of the third Dragon king Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Here you get to see a beautiful ritual which is circumambulation around the Chorten. The warmth from all the butter lamps lit in honor of the
deceased will melt your heart.
Motithang Takin Preserve. The area is the forested preserve area that mimics the Takin’s natural habitat.
DochuLa Pass (3,100m) where you will stop for some and explore the pass. DochuLa Pass is the collection of 108 memorial Chorten in honor of the late soldiers. Besides having a deep history this place also provides exquisite views of the snow-laden Himalayas followed by the green valleys.
Punakha Dzong is the second-largest and oldest landmark in Bhutan. It takes around 3 hours to drive
from Thimphu city. This majestic building lies between two main rivers Mo Chhu (Female) and Pho Chhu (Male).
Personal Pro Tip: Flying into Bhutan, definitely ask for a left-side window seat—on clear days, you could catch a jaw-dropping view of Mt. Everest (worth it for that once-in-a-lifetime shot).
Getting Around
Bhutan requires a pre-booked tour for all travelers—no DIY! Tours provide a private driver and guide, making logistics a breeze.
Food
In Bhutan, try ema datshi (spicy chili cheese) and momos (dumplings) at local family-run restaurants. The guide can only bring us to restaurants that are allowed to serve foreigners as not all restaurants are qualified. All meals are included when you book the tour.
Travel Hacks
Always keep some cash; cards aren’t accepted everywhere, especially in Bhutan’s monasteries or rural areas. Dress respectfully for temple visits—
