2026 Waterloo Travel Guide: must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transport & travel experiences (updated in July)

This time, I came to Australia with a few friends. We chose some economical and beautiful spots, and spent the rest of the time strolling around the city. To save money, we mostly cooked our own dinners. If you plan to visit Sydney in the future but have a limited budget, feel free to refer to our itinerary. The sky in Australia is incredibly clear, but the sun is very strong, so remember to apply enough sunscreen! Chinatown: A Chinese community area, relatively expensive. Whale Watching 🐳: Take a boat to the sea center for whale watching. Whether you see whales depends on luck. We saw dolphins and whales that day, but the whales were far away and not very clear. Taronga Zoo: The zoo is very large, you can spend a whole day there. Luna Park: This amusement park is not big, but it has all the rides you need. Entry is free, great for taking photos. Blue Mountains National Park: Since the journey is quite far, we booked a day tour. It has the world's steepest cable car - Scenic Railway. Sydney Fish Market: Recommended to go in the morning, the catch is fresher. University of Sydney: The University of Sydney is beautiful, with many photo spots. Chose the Meriton for its closeness to Hordern Pavilion for a show. The hotel is spotless, orderly, and easy to get to. The one-bedroom apartment was spacious, although the stairs may be a challenge for some to reach the bedroom. Rates were excellent considering several events were happening in the city. If you can, request a room at the rear of the building by the courtyard, as the road noise from the front is intensely loud—it's impossible to enjoy the balcony.

We went to the suburb of Waterloo (yes just like the ABBA song, haha) and we came across the church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (no, not caramel!), which is definitely worth visiting✝️ The main artworks that caught our eyes were the colourful statues. There were some paintings and stained glass windows, but the statues were something extra. Whoever crafted them must've been specially skilled in the intricate detailing🕯️ A painting that caught our attention was this large, life-sized portrait of Mother Mary. My my! She is beautiful, and strong, crushing evil under her feet, wearing a heavenly crown with heavenly clouds surrounding her👸🏻 So we definitely recommend going to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church if you like paintings and statues. A truly dreamy cafe! A must-visit spot for flower lovers! White tables and chairs paired with a floral ceiling create a look that's both glamorous and adorable. Every corner of the restaurant has a unique design, making it perfect for taking photos! Even more impressive is that besides the beautiful ambiance, the food is also excellent! I ordered a pancake—a purple pancake topped with fresh fruit and edible flowers—it had a very romantic feel! The presentation of the other dishes was also very thoughtful!
