I am sharing my travel experience during autumn here in Washington to everyone, starting high above the clouds in the majestic North Cascades along the trail to Blue Lake. Wandering down this forest path in early October feels like stepping directly into an oil painting, where the rugged alpine air carries the fresh, crisp aroma of pine needles and damp mountain soil. Unlike the traditional red and orange maples found in other regions, autumn in the high backcountry of Washington revolves around a magnificent natural anomaly: the subalpine larch. These rare, deciduous needle-bearing trees turn a vivid, glowing canary-gold before dropping their needles for winter. As sunlight streams through the canopy, the trees shimmer like lit torchfires against the dark forest evergreens, mirroring perfectly off the crystal-clear, emerald-turquoise waters of Blue Lake below. Reaching this breathtaking mountain paradise is an iconic Pacific Northwest adventure in itself, located right off the scenic North Cascades Highway (Highway 20). From Seattle, drive about two and a half to three hours northeast toward Burlington, taking Exit 230 to join Highway 20 East toward Winthrop. The trailhead for Blue Lake sits near milepost 162, nestled right before Washington Pass Overlook. The hike itself spans a moderate 4.4 miles round-trip with roughly 1,000 feet of gentle elevation gain, making it an accessible journey for almost every skill level. A crucial local tip for an unforgettable trip: parking is very limited at the small trailhead lot, so arrive by 7:30 AM or visit on a weekday to beat the heavy "Larch Madness" crowds. Additionally, be sure to display your Northwest Forest Pass or America the Beautiful Pass in your dashboard, and bring sturdy waterproof boots and layered outerwear, as early autumn snow showers can sweep over the peaks at any moment. Autumn is unequivocally the absolute best time to explore Washington because it captures a fleeting, high-energy harmony in nature before the deep winter freeze sets in. The stark contrast between dusting snow on granite spires, crimson blueberry bushes carpeting the ground, glowing golden larches, and deep alpine waters creates a rich color palette you simply cannot witness at any other point of the year. Standing quietly on the lakeshore while golden larch needles drift gently down like warm rain in the mountain breeze instills a profound sense of peace and gratitude. Washington in the fall is far more than just a destination; it is a captivating, restorative sanctuary that lingers in your memory long after you have descended the trail. #FallInWashington #GoldenLarches #BlueLakeTrail #NorthCascades #LarchMadness #PacificNorthwestAutumnmn #WashingtonFallColors #ExploreWashington #AutumnTravel #PNWExploration #fallcolors

Our stay at Nala Island was truly unforgettable. The accommodations were stunning, and every staff member we encountered was so warm and welcoming. A special thanks to Jumaan, our butler, for his exceptional care and company during our visit—he really went above and beyond. The island itself was enchanting: crystal-clear, Tiffany-blue waters, abundant playful wildlife, and a breathtaking view of the Milky Way at night. We cherished every moment and can't wait to return!

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Nala Island and had a wonderful time. Both the sunrise and sunset villas are stunning in their own ways, and staying on opposite sides of the island offers uniquely different coastal views. The sunset villas include a private pool, which is a delightful extra. If you don’t mind a bit more sun during the day, I’d highly recommend opting for a sunset villa. The food at the main restaurant was generally very good, and I enjoyed most of my meals. However, the selection can feel a bit repetitive after several days, as the dishes tend to be quite similar with only occasional variety. If you rely solely on the main restaurant for meals, the options might feel slightly limited by the end of your stay. That said, the island has other restaurants, and I strongly recommend giving them a try as they provide more variety and enhance the dining experience. As for activities, there’s plenty to explore. The Jawakara app is very handy and user-friendly, though guests do need to take some time to navigate it on their own. It would be even better if the host provided a more detailed introduction to activities upon arrival, especially focusing on water sports and excursions. I discovered many interesting things to do only after visiting the water sports center, but unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time left to experience everything I wanted. One of the standout features of the trip was undoubtedly the people. Everyone on the island was exceptionally warm, friendly, and kind, and I deeply appreciated the excellent service throughout my stay. All in all, my time at Nala Island was incredibly enjoyable and memorable. The entire experience was meaningful to me, and I would love to visit again in the future. I would definitely recommend it to my friends as well.

There are few places that capture the magic of autumn quite like the North Cascades. The larch hike becomes a golden wonderland as the alpine larches transform from summer green into brilliant shades of yellow and gold, creating an unforgettable contrast against rugged mountain peaks and crisp blue skies. One of the classic experiences is hiking around the Maple Pass area, where the trail climbs through dense forest before opening into spectacular alpine scenery. Along the way, you’ll find golden larches scattered across rocky slopes, peaceful mountain lakes, dramatic ridgelines, and sweeping views of the surrounding Cascades. The Forest Service describes the Maple Pass Loop as a challenging route with spectacular views from the higher sections. 🍁 Why fall is special here: ✨ Golden larches glowing across the mountainsides 🏔️ Rugged North Cascades peaks 💧 Alpine lakes reflecting the autumn colors 🥾 Scenic trails with breathtaking viewpoints 📸 Endless opportunities for autumn photography The larches are especially magical because they are deciduous conifers—their delicate needles turn brilliant yellow before falling later in the season. 📍 North Cascades, Washington, USA 🇺🇸 🍂 Best season: Fall, especially around the larch-color period A hike here feels like walking through a living painting—golden trees, rocky peaks, cool mountain air, and that unmistakable feeling of autumn in the Pacific Northwest. 🍁🏔️✨ #NorthCascades #Washington #FallInWashington #LarchHike #Larches #AutumnHiking #MaplePass #PacificNorthwest #WashingtonState #MountainViews #FallColors #HikingAdventure #NaturePhotography

🏔️ Cutthroat Pass via Cutthroat Lake Cutthroat Pass via Cutthroat Lake is a classic mountain hiking route in the North Cascades, Washington, located near the North Cascades Highway (WA-20). Its biggest highlights are: a high-altitude lake, the North Cascade Mountains, and golden larch trees in autumn. 🥾 Route Overview Typically starts from the Cutthroat Lake Trailhead: Cutthroat Lake → Cutthroat Pass · Round trip approximately 10.8–11 miles (17.4–17.7 km) · Total elevation gain approximately 2,000 ft (610 m) · Difficulty: Moderate to hard · Requires returning via the same route · Highest point, Cutthroat Pass, approximately 6,800 ft (2,073 m) Here's a point of confusion: Cutthroat Lake itself is not the end point. Many people turn back after reaching the lake, but the truly beautiful part is continuing up the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) to Cutthroat Pass. 🍂 Especially beautiful in autumn One of the reasons this route is so famous in Washington, D.C., is its larch trees. Around late September to early October, the larch trees on the hillsides change from green to: Yellow → Golden yellow → Golden orange This, combined with the dark peaks of the North Cascades, is stunning. 🏞️ Cutthroat Lake The first half of the trail passes through forest before reaching the beautiful Cutthroat Lake. The lake, its reflections, and the surrounding mountains are already worth seeing. But continuing up to the pass, the view suddenly opens up. ⛰️ Cutthroat Pass Upon reaching the pass, you'll see a very typical North Cascades mountain landscape: layered mountains + high valleys + larch trees + rock walls. This area is also part of the Pacific Crest Trail. If the weather is good, stopping for lunch near the pass is a wonderful experience.

Mount Baker, standing at 10,781 ft (3,286 m), is an active volcano in the North Cascades and Washington State's third-highest peak, trailing only Mount Rainier and Mount Adams. What makes Mount Baker special: · 🏔️ Massive glaciers blanketing the volcano · ❄️ Record-breaking winter snowfall · 🌲 Pristine old-growth forests of the North Cascades · 🌸 Stunning alpine wildflower blooms in summer · 🍂 Vibrant golden hues around Heather Meadows in autumn · 🌄 Artist Point, one of the easiest-to-reach and most breathtaking vantage points Despite living in the Seattle area for 14 years, the three-hour one-way drive means I’ve only made the trip three times. However, those three visits spanned different seasons, allowing me to witness the unique beauty of autumn, winter, and summer. My first trip was an autumn hike on the Chain Lakes Trail. My second was a winter getaway, staying overnight to experience the deep snow. My third visit was just yesterday, in the height of summer. For the best experience, I recommend starting at Artist Point to see Mt. Baker and do some hiking nearby. By midday and into the afternoon, the light shifts perfectly for viewing Mt. Shuksan. Afterward, head down to Heather Meadows for a stroll—the 1.5-mile Bagley Lakes Trail loop is incredibly easy and flat. Wrap up the day at Picture Lake to catch the iconic reflection of the mountains. Simply perfect! Interestingly, while the area is named after Mt. Baker, the most prominent peak you'll often see is actually Mt. Shuksan. While Shuksan is rugged and jagged, it doesn't hold nearly as much snow as Baker, which remains brilliantly white even in late August. Mount Baker is truly an underrated gem; despite its world-class scenery, it’s designated as a National Forest rather than a National Park. The cost is also incredibly low—a day pass is just $5 per vehicle.

Washington State is a dream destination for anyone who loves dramatic mountains, deep blue lakes, evergreen forests, and peaceful wilderness. In the Cascade Range, rugged peaks rise above some of the most spectacular waterscapes in the Pacific Northwest. One of the most iconic landscapes is Diablo Lake, famous for its striking turquoise color. The lake sits among steep Cascade peaks, forests, rock formations, and snowfields, creating a scene that almost feels unreal. Its vivid color comes from fine glacial rock particles suspended in the water. Further east, Lake Chelan stretches for nearly 50 miles through a spectacular mountain valley. Surrounded by forested slopes and the North Cascades, it is one of Washington's defining lake landscapes. At almost 1,500 feet deep, it is the third-deepest freshwater lake in the United States. The North Cascades are often described as the “American Alps,” with jagged peaks, glaciers, alpine lakes, dense forests, and dramatic valleys. The national park contains more than 300 glaciers and some of the wildest mountain scenery in Washington. For an unforgettable road trip, the Cascade Loop Scenic Byway connects mountains, lakes, valleys, and small communities across Washington. The route includes the North Cascades, Lake Chelan, Methow Valley, and other scenic areas, making it one of the state's great landscape journeys. 🌲 What makes Washington special? · Turquoise and deep-blue alpine waters · Rugged Cascade Mountain peaks · Glaciers and snow-covered summits · Vast evergreen forests · Scenic mountain highways · Peaceful lakeside communities · Hiking, photography, boating, and nature experiences From the brilliant waters of Diablo Lake to the enormous mountain setting around Lake Chelan, Washington offers a remarkable combination of water, wilderness, and mountains. 📍 Location: Washington State, USA 🏔️ Highlights: North Cascades • Diablo Lake • Lake Chelan • Cascade Range • Cascade Loop Washington isn't simply a place to see mountains—it is a place where mountains, forests, and lakes come together to create unforgettable landscapes. 🇺🇸🌲💙 #WashingtonState #NorthCascades #DiabloLake #LakeChelan #CascadeMountains #PacificNorthwest #MountainLovers #LakeViews #NaturePhotography #TravelUSA #ScenicWashington #ExploreWashington

I'm carving out 3 days in Washington and can’t decide whether to race for a Mount Rainier sunrise, wander the Hoh Rain Forest in that mossy hush, or camp by the turquoise water near Diablo Lake. I'm not trying to do all three parks - just want one 'wow, remember this' scene. What's the single moment from Olympic, Rainier, or North Cascades you'd plan a day around, and where did it happen?

#easytravelpost Heather Meadows is at 4,200 ft on the Mount Baker Highway (SR 542), 1 hr from Bellingham, 2.5 hrs from Seattle. Parking at the Bagley Lakes / Fire & Ice trailhead requires the Northwest Forest Pass USD 5/day or America the Beautiful; no gate, honor-system hang-tag. I drove from Seattle at 06:00, reached the ridge 08:20, hung the USD 5 tag. The mossy bit is the Fire and Ice Trail (0.8 mi loop) plus the climb toward Panorama Dome: subalpine fir with Rhytidiadelphus on the snowmelt seep-beds 3 cm thick, 7°C in July, a gray jay mobbing me at the Bagley Lakes outlet, the Mt. Baker cone (10,781 ft) dead white across the valley. I did Fire-and-Ice then pushed 1.5 mi up the Ptarmigan Ridge fork to where the heather (blooming July–Aug) meets the moss line, ate a USD 8 Bellingham fair-trade burrito I'd packed, watched a marmot whistle. Mistake: I drove SR 542 in a low-clearance sedan in June — snow patch at the 4,200 ft pullout not plowed till July; late July–Sep for clear ridge. Another: the USD 5 pass isn't sold at the trailhead — buy it in Bellingham or use the annual ATB. Would you hang a USD 5 NW Forest Pass for the 08:20 Heather Meadows Fire-and-Ice mossy ridge + Ptarmigan Dome climb, or skip the pass risk and hike the free Artist Point paved walk instead?

#arrivalguide #ArrivalGuide #RainbowMcAlester #NorthCascades This is the quieter sibling of the Maple Pass circus, and it starts at the Bridge Creek trailhead off SR-20 near Rainy Pass. I linked it as a 17 mi / 27 km loop over two days, but the core day-hike chunk is Bridge Creek → Rainbow Lake → PCT junction → McAlester Pass → back down, about 12 mi / 19 km with ~2,800 ft gain if you skip the overnight. The first 3 miles are flat along Bridge Creek (great cold-water refill, treat it), then a steady climb to Rainbow Lake at 5,400 ft, a subalpine tarn ringed by heather. The PCT junction at 5,900 ft is where southbound thru-hikers peel off; I sat there 20 minutes and counted four of them in 2025. From the junction it's a grind up to McAlester Pass (6,150 ft) then a long switchback descent through old burn regrowth—wildflowers insane in late July, but no shade after 11 am. Permits: this is backcountry wilderness inside North Cascades NP complex, so a free self-issued wilderness permit at the trailhead register (not the parking pass—that's the $5 Northwest Forest Pass again). Bears are active; canister required, not optional. I camped at Rainbow Lake (no established sites, practice Leave No Trace, 200 ft from water) and the wind off the glacier kept mosquitoes down but dropped the temp to 4°C by midnight—I was glad for a 20°F bag. Common error: people try to day-hike the full loop in July and underestimate the burn-zone sun exposure. Would you rather camp at Rainbow Lake for the dawn reflection, or push the whole loop in one 10-hour push?

#arrivalguide #ArrivalGuide #NorthCascades #Washington I rolled into the Rainy Pass trailhead on SR-20 at 7:05 am on a late July morning, parked in the small lot (no ranger, self-pay Northwest Forest Pass $5 cash in the iron box—bring exact bills, the Marblemount store 40 minutes west sells them too), and started counterclockwise on the Heather-Maple Pass loop. The standard stats: 7.2 mi / 11.6 km loop, ~2,200 ft / 670 m gain, 3.5–5 hours depending on photo stops.Counterclockwise means a steadier climb through silver fir and slide alder, then breaks into heather slopes above timberline where Lake Ann sits cupped in a cirque beneath the Maple Pass ridge. I hit snow patches on the north-facing switchbacks even in late July—microspikes would have been overkill but trekking poles saved my knees on the descent. The ridge walk between Heather Pass and Maple Pass is the payoff: 360° on Glacier Peak, the Mesahchie range, and a strip of azure that is Lake Ann from above. Bugs were brutal in the lower forest (no-see-ums in July), so DEET + a bug net hood were worth the luggage space. A mistake I made: I trusted cell coverage and didn't download the USGS quad offline—there is zero signal past the first mile. Water sources are seasonal; carry 2 L minimum. The loop is inside the Stephen Mather Wilderness, so no dogs, no bikes, pack out everything. Go before 8 am in summer or the lot fills and you'll roadside park on a blind curve. My question for PNW hikers: do you run this loop counterclockwise for the gentler grade, or clockwise to get the ridge drama early and suffer the knee-jarring descent later?

Few people visiting Artist Point for the first time aren’t stunned by the view. As soon as you get out of the parking lot, you’re greeted by a million-dollar view with two volcanoes side by side. Mt. Baker is on the left, and Mt. Shuksan is on the right. The Chain Lakes Loop circles right at their feet. Almost no trees block the view along the way. Snow-capped peaks, glaciers, lakes, and alpine meadows keep changing, making you want to stop and take photos every few minutes. What I truly love about this place isn’t any single viewpoint but that the scenery never seems to end. Many trails are about reaching the destination. Chain Lakes Loop feels like walking forward inside a painting. Later, I found out that the name Artist Point wasn’t chosen by chance. Over a hundred years ago, this was a place where many painters sought inspiration. Standing here and looking around, it’s easy to see why—no matter which direction you look, it’s like a landscape painting. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a marmot along the way. The entire route has no particularly technical sections, yet it almost condenses Washington’s alpine scenery into one day. Trail info: 📍 Chain Lakes Loop 🥾 About 7–8 miles (loop) 📈 Elevation gain: about 1,800 ft 🌼 Best season: July–September (wildflowers in bloom, alpine scenery) 🚗 Artist Point road is usually closed in winter and open only in summer. The parking lot requires an America the Beautiful Pass or Northwest Forest Pass; the Discover Pass is not accepted. Weekends in summer are busy, so arriving early in the morning makes it easier to find a parking spot.

After the 2006 landslide on the road, the usual summit route for Glacier Peak changed, extending from 2 days to 3 days and the distance from 20 miles to 36 miles. I heard fewer people go because of the longer distance, but the camps still feel as crowded as a market. 📍Day 1 Hiked all the way from North Fork Sauk Trailhead to a basin formed by glacier melt at 6,700 feet. There were really a lot of campers here, at least a dozen groups, all preparing for the summit attempt the next day. ⛰️Summit day Started at 3 AM in whiteout conditions. The weather forecast only mentioned strong winds, so we naively expected strong winds plus clear skies. Instead, we got two hours of clear skies, then strong winds and clouds after 8 AM. The worst part was the clouds—they were real, and we spent the whole time walking inside them, throwing up 🤮 Luckily, the route was relatively simple. About 90% of people didn’t rope up; we did and felt like outliers. But the crevasses were all visible along the route, and a boot track nearby was abandoned two weeks ago because it was full of crevasses. Is it really safe not to rope up in mid-July? In the end, we made it to the summit smoothly, but saw nothing 🤡 ⛺️Descent On the way back, we moved the tent from the 6,700-foot basin to White Pass. This area has plenty of campsites, so no worries about them being full. This way, the third day’s exit only took five hours. With this, all six Washington peaks plus Hood are done—celebrate 🎉 Climbing 6 peaks in 70 days this year is quite something. Thanks to the professional guide 📅 Check-in record 05/09/2026 Mount Hood · 11,249 ft 05/24/2026 Mount Adams · 12,281 ft 05/31/2026 Mount Baker · 10,781 ft 06/21/2026 Mount Rainier · 14,411 ft 07/05/2026 Mount Olympus · 7,980 ft 07/18/2026 Glacier Peak · 10,541 ft 04/13/2024 Mount Saint Helens · 8,363 ft

📍 Cascade Pass and Sahale Arm Trail 12 miles, 4000 ft, 2.5-hour drive from Seattle On the way back from summiting Sahale Mountain, we took the classic North Cascades National Park hike, Cascade Pass and Sahale Arm Trail (you can see my other post for the Sahale Mountain summit, highly recommend Boston Basin Trail) Along the trail, you can see surrounding peaks and lots of mountain goats. We saw at least 20, nearly half of them were babies. These goats aren’t afraid of people and ran right beside the trail, so adorable. We also saw several chubby marmots. This trail is long and gentle, with switchbacks that make you question your life choices. But you don’t have to go to the end of the trail to turn back and still enjoy beautiful views. Don’t go off the trail; the alpine meadows are fragile, so please don’t damage them. Parking is limited, so try to arrive early.

North Cascades National Park Heather Lake Trail takes you through a lush forest and ends at a serene alpine lake. The highest elevation of the trail is approximately 1,000 feet (305 meters). Located about a 1.5-hour drive from downtown Seattle, this trail spans roughly 5 miles round trip. Due to rain and muddy conditions, it took us about 4 hours to complete. The hike leads through a damp forest, and we encountered a brief drizzle along the way. The trail was slippery—tree roots, rocks, and mud made it necessary to tread carefully. As we approached Heather Lake, the rain stopped just in time. Cliffs stood quietly across the lake, and the crystal-clear water reflected the mountain shadows and dispersing clouds. The lake, cradled by towering cliffs, felt exceptionally tranquil. We rested by the lakeside for a while, breathing in the fresh scent of rain-washed pine and earth. Despite muddy shoes, a sense of calm washed over us. On the way back, stepping through the mud and soaking our pant legs didn’t bother us at all— This kind of post-rain hike felt just perfect.

Venture into the hidden realm of the North Cascades, where wild blue lakes and snowy mountain starlight unfold before your eyes. When the city's noise is blocked by layers of spruce trees, stepping into the wilderness of the North Cascades in Washington State reveals a divine palette favored by the gods, hiding one breathtaking alpine lake after another, spreading out a vast natural scroll of rolling landscapes. Following the soft, moss-covered hiking trail forward, the first sight to catch your eye is a clear, mirror-like glacial lake. The cold gray-white granite mountains embrace the water, with lingering snow nestled in the crevices of the rock walls. When there is no wind, the lake surface is as smooth as a sapphire polished for millennia, perfectly reflecting the peaks, scattered clouds, and sturdy fir trees, blending reality and reflection so seamlessly you can't tell if the mountains are on the water or the water is wrapping the mountains. Sunlight grazes the mountain tops, coating the rock walls with a warm golden hue. The deep blue lake water instantly reveals layers: near the shore, it is a transparent Tiffany turquoise, while the lake’s center sinks into a profound dark blue. Glacial meltwater carries rock powder, giving the lake a uniquely dreamy and translucent color, making every snapshot a wallpaper-worthy masterpiece without any filter. Life flourishes wildly along the lake shore. Low alpine rhododendrons cluster in vibrant pink and purple, blooming passionately on cliff edges and beside trails, their fluffy petals kissed by the cool mountain mist; vast patches of lupines form a purple and white floral carpet, with the snowy Mount Rainier as a backdrop. Grass brushes past your ankles, and the wind stirs waves of green. In the dense forest, towering conifers stand straight and tall, their dark green branches layered thickly. Occasionally, a dead pine leans against a cliff, framing a natural picture window. Through the gaps in the foliage, you can gaze at the snowy mountain lakes, where dappled light scatters across the water, creating an atmosphere that is simply breathtaking. This place is never just one scene. There are mini pale green alpine pools hidden in valleys, with mist gently brushing the water surface, surrounded by brownish-yellow scree slopes, cool yet gentle; there are chain lakes scattered with small islands, shallow rocky shores winding through the forest. In the early morning, mist drifts over the valleys, mountains half-hidden in a sea of clouds. At sunrise, the sky glows with orange and pink hues, jagged ridges turn warm red in the twilight, and the lake reflects the tender sky, so quiet you can only hear the wind whispering through the pines. There are also the rolling wheat fields of Palouse, where the earth is plowed into soft curves, tender green waves of wheat shift with the light, and red-roofed farmhouses nestle among the hills, creating a gentle pastoral contrast to the stark snowy mountain lakes. Hiking is the best way to understand this wilderness. The dirt trail winds through meadows, with shrubs dotted with tiny red berries on both sides. From higher ground, the entire mountain range unfolds: sharp, steep serrated peaks stretch endlessly, glacial ravines crisscross, and countless lakes sparkle like scattered gems in the mountains—blue, cyan, turquoise, emerald—each lake a different jewel set in the forested valleys. Occasionally, a white mountain waterfall cascades down a rock face, its mist falling on the lake surface, creating delicate ripples. Sitting on a cliff, gazing afar, a traveler in red sits alone on a rock, below is a turquoise lake with half-melted ice, wildflowers spread to their feet. Immersed in the scenery, one feels small yet healed. No need to chase sunrise or sunset; every moment here holds a surprise. In the early morning, clouds wrap the mountain waist, snow peaks barely visible, and the lake lies tranquil as if asleep; at noon, sunlight floods the valley, the lake water is clear and dazzling, even the rock textures are visible; at dusk, the setting sun shatters the glow, dyeing the peaks honey-orange, the lake reflects the sky’s pink and orange clouds, and the evening breeze carries the scent of grass and wildflowers, blowing away all worries. Escape the crowded crowds and head to this North American alpine secret. Here, see snowy mountains mirrored in blue lakes, flowers accompany ancient pines, walk forest trails, quietly watch the sea of clouds roll, let the clear lake wash away your fatigue, and in the unique vastness and gentleness of the wilderness, encounter the purest and most stunning natural romance hidden in the corners of the world.

Day One 🌫️ Setting off from Seattle in the morning, the sky was still overcast. Driving onto Highway 20, the fog magically cleared, and pine forests surged like two guards on either side 🌲🌲! After two and a half hours, rounding a bend, Diablo Lake suddenly appeared without warning—the blue was almost unfair! It looked like God had spilled a jar of turquoise paint 💎. People at the viewpoint gasped, some stood frozen with cameras, and a little cutie tugged her mom’s sleeve asking, "Mommy, is this Fairy Lake?" 👧 🏃 In the afternoon, we challenged the Thunder Knob Trail! A five-kilometer loop around the mountain, heart racing but the scenery even more insane 💓. At the summit, the sunlight perfectly gilded Diablo Lake, the ultimate combo of snowy peaks + pine forests + blue lake. Sitting on a rock, sipping water and zoning out: so this is what a national park fairy tale for ordinary people looks like 🧚‍♀️! 🌇 Driving to Winthrop at dusk, almost blown away by the wind at Washington Pass viewpoint 💨! But who wanted to leave? The sunset turned Liberty Bell Mountain into 24K gold, and the winding mountain road danced like a silk ribbon~ 🏡 Checked into a Western-style lodge! Cabin + vintage water pump = time travel vibes ⏳. At the door, we met a perfect couple; the elderly gentleman looked at a map and asked, "Here to see the glaciers?" I nodded, he smiled, "I brought her here for the first time sixty years ago..." Help! What a legendary love story 💑 Day Two 💪 Today we power-hiked the Maple Pass Loop! Over 10 kilometers + 600 meters elevation gain ⚡, but breathtakingly beautiful!! ☀️ Setting off under full sunshine, the ridge at the summit was tear-jerkingly beautiful—Rainy Lake and Ann Lake flanking us on both sides 💧💧, and the distant snowy peaks looked like layered cakes 🍰! No matter how strong the wind was, it couldn’t stop our camera hands 📸. ⭐️ Going counterclockwise is definitely a hidden tip! The second half felt like cheating—at 2,000 meters elevation, we found a group having a picnic, and suddenly someone shouted, "The glacier is watching us!" That white figure hidden among the rocks was so quiet, as if guarding some secret 🤫. 🐐 On the way down, we met a chill mountain goat! It glanced at us and went back to eating, as if saying, "Another human who’s never seen the world" 😂 🦵 Back at the parking lot by 4 PM, my legs felt like they weren’t mine... Remembering that old gentleman who said "sixty years," I suddenly understood: the mountains are always there, it’s us who change over time ⏳. 🚗 On the way back, we passed Diablo Lake again, its water having transformed from Tiffany blue to emerald green 💚. Didn’t get out of the car—some views... just one glance and they stay in your heart forever 💖 (💡Tip: No entrance fee for the park. It’s recommended to bring a windbreaker + trekking poles. The best visiting season is from June to September~)
