Exploring heritage-listed Big Pineapple
I wouldn’t suggest The Big Pineapple - though the train is back. The Zoo & Train combo tickets were rather costly and did not quite make its worth. We were drawn to the large map , showing Wildlife HQ having a large display to native and exotic animals from around the world. Well, probably Australia Zoo works instead , referring to the range of animals available and the maze of paths getting around, in comparison . However, one consolation we had was seeing an active koala roaming and eating during broad daylight hours - they were typically nocturnal and mostly sleeping during the day. I reckoned this was a rare sight.
The commentary was generally good along with some enthusiasm - he was saying that they planned to replant the pineapples in the area between the main building and the zoo and that they will need up to 2 years to flower after planting, and another 8 months for the fruit to ripen. That would be a good number of year later.
Train was very slow (good for accessibility to the zoo) and short, though it was a rather smooth ride.
I don’t quite understand why this is a famous tourism icon on the Sunshine Coast, apart from its royal visit back in 1983? #Bigpineapple
