2 hours west of Beijing! A 20℃ summer on the grassland, the ultimate Dragon Boat Festival summer escape
🌡️ Who gets it! This is what summer should really feel like
The 35℃ heat in the city is suffocating, but here the average temperature in June is only 18-25℃. Wear long sleeves during the day and cover up with a blanket at night, no need for air conditioning at all. It’s just 1.5 hours by high-speed train from Beijing, 3 hours by car—perfect for the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday. This is Ulanqab, known as the "Summer Resort Capital of China’s Grasslands."

💡 Insider tips
1. Really bring warm clothes! I went in June, even wearing a down jacket at night wasn’t too warm, don’t take chances
2. Sunscreen! Sunscreen! Sunscreen! UV rays on the grassland are 3 times stronger than in the city, no sunscreen means sunburn
3. Buy the strongest mosquito repellent! Ordinary ones don’t work, mosquitoes are fierce
4. Don’t eat in the scenic area! Expensive and bad food, go to Jining city for cheap and tasty meals
5. Don’t visit the volcano at noon! No shade, very hot, go after 4 PM
6. Don’t trust "horse riding 100 RMB" on the grassland, they’ll charge you hundreds in the end, agree on price beforehand
7. The grass is fully green during Dragon Boat Festival! Wildflowers are blooming, it’s the best time
