The Basilica of Our Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro (French: Basilique de Notre Dame de la Paix de Yamoussoukro) is a Roman Catholic minor basilica located in Yamoussoukro, the administrative capital of Côte d'Ivoire. It was built between 1985 and 1989 at a cost of $300 million. The design of the church's dome and circular plaza was clearly inspired by St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, though it is not an exact replica. The dome is slightly lower than that of St. Peter's Basilica, while the cross at the top is larger. The foundation stone was laid on August 10, 1985, and it was consecrated by Pope John Paul II on September 10, 1990. The main hall has 7,000 seats, and the standing area can accommodate an additional 11,000 people.
