Guilin 5 Days 4 Nights Family Trip ✨👨👩👧👦 Day 1 🚄 Arrive in Yangshuo • Check into Family-Friendly Hotel In the morning, we took the high-speed train to Guilin South Station. Tickets for the outbound journey were easy to book, but return tickets to Hong Kong were very popular. If you couldn't get one, you could transfer at Guangzhou South Station; transportation was still convenient. Getting around Guilin city was also easy; you could hail a ride-hailing service between almost every attraction. After arriving, we took a taxi to Yangshuo and arrived at our hotel—🏨 Yangshuo Yuyuan Jingshe (Ten-Mile Gallery Yulong River Branch)—before 2 PM. This hotel is ranked second among family-friendly hotels in Guangxi, perfect for children—we definitely made the right choice! After dropping off our luggage, we went out for lunch and then returned to the hotel to rest. The hotel hosts different family-friendly craft activities every afternoon, including free cotton candy making 🍭. The hotel grounds have a large lawn for playing football, sand, and climbing; there are swimming pools on the basement and rooftop, and all necessary water amenities are provided 🏊. After freshening up in the evening, we enjoyed dinner at the hotel restaurant. The next day 🌿 Yulong River Bamboo Rafting & West Street Night Tour After breakfast, we set off on a bamboo rafting trip. During peak season, you can purchase tickets in advance on Meituan or Trip.com. On-site purchase is also possible, costing approximately ¥100 per person. The rafting distance varies depending on the pier; I chose to depart from Shui'edi to the main pier, a journey of about 1.5 hours. The scenery along the way was picturesque, and the bamboo raft drifted gently, a leisurely and idyllic experience 🌈. I also brought two water guns, which the kids had a blast with 💦! After disembarking, we rented a four-seater electric cart for ¥120 for four hours. The journey passed by scenic spots like the Ten-Mile Gallery, rice paddies, and passion fruit orchards, offering endless opportunities for photo opportunities 📸. Although located in a small alley, the location is excellent, just a few minutes' walk from East and West Alleys. The decor is modern, the service is attentive, and they even upgraded us to a larger room! In the afternoon, visit Reed Flute Cave, a national scenic area famous for its spectacular karst caves, known as the "Palace of Nature's Art" ✨. The cave is filled with stalactites, columns, and curtains of stone in countless shapes, creating a dreamy and cool atmosphere—a great place for taking photos and escaping the summer heat. I heard that the old version of *Journey to the West* was filmed here! At dusk, enjoy a leisurely stroll along East-West Alley and Zhengyang Pedestrian Street. The former preserves ancient Ming Dynasty architecture, exuding a classic charm; the latter is mainly filled with restaurants and souvenir shops. If time is limited, you can just visit East-West Alley. Day 4 🏔 Unfortunately, we missed the Longji Rice Terraces. The original plan was to visit the Jingwang Mansion and Elephant Trunk Hill after breakfast, followed by the Longji Rice Terraces. I had specifically booked a room with an excellent view: 🏡 Sky City B&B (Longji Rice Terraces Viewpoint Branch) Address: No. 999, Group 3, Tiantou Village, Dazhai Village, Longji Town This room offers a bird's-eye view of the layered rice terraces 🌾, about a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Guilin. Although we missed the world's most beautiful rice terraces and ethnic villages, we were pleasantly surprised by the efficiency of Chinese hospitals—the doctor brought out an anti-nausea patch, and it worked immediately! Extraterrestrial landscapes in China can be found in Yangshuo and Xingping. This year, we discovered these places, which can easily compete with the Avatar mountains. In the Yangshuo area, I recommend booking a hotel with panoramic mountain views to enjoy them from morning till evening. Also, make sure to go rafting on the river; there are many options nearby, so choose the one that suits you best. Next, definitely rent an electric bike (around 300₽, no license required) and explore the area thoroughly. We rode along the Yulong River, and the views were stunning. Along the way, there are small cafes and coffee shops (the route runs almost directly along the river, not on the main road). Xingping is a super famous place in China; I think everyone has seen the traditional-style photo of a raft with cormorants. It is taken right here. Additionally, there is an amazing rafting experience (called Li River Bamboo Raft), located just 15 minutes on foot from the old town. You should also climb Laozhai Mountain—it’s challenging, but the views are worth it. We visited in winter and were thrilled. We want to return in spring or summer because the views we saw there are unmatched, and the scenic pools in the hotels were waiting for us due to the weather. I highly recommend these places for your next trip. Believe me, you haven’t seen anything like this yet.

If I were asked where to go in China for a "wow, this is unreal" feeling, I would answer without hesitation: Yangshuo. Not Beijing, not Shanghai, and not even Zhangjiajie. It's here that China looks like it was painted with a brush: karst mountains, fog over the river, rice fields, and the complete silence between the villages. 🌿 Why Yangshuo Yangshuo is in southern China, in Guangxi Province. There are no skyscrapers, no rush, and no sense of a metropolis here. But there are landscapes like those from banknotes that look even more powerful in reality. This isn't a place to "check the box," but for a slower pace of life: morning, fog, a bicycle, a tea ceremony, and the feeling that the world has become quieter. 🚲 WHAT TO DO HERE (AND WHY IT'S THE BEST) 1️⃣ Bamboo Rafting on the Yulong River The best option is the short route along the Yulong River, where the raft slowly glides between the mountains. It's not an adrenaline rush, but pure meditation. 2️⃣ Cycling There's nothing better than renting a bike for just a couple of dollars and riding through rice fields, with picturesque views, high hills, abundant greenery, and fresh, clean air. You'll hardly encounter any foreign tourists here, at most Chinese who know about this gem. In the morning or closer to sunset, ride along the Yulong River: bridges, water buffalo in the water, reflections of the mountains. There are almost no cars, the route is flat, and the ride is easy. I stopped every 5-10 minutes simply because every turn was a postcard. 3️⃣ Sunset Viewpoints In Yangshuo, sunsets (and sunrises) are a form of art in themselves. The sun sets behind the karst peaks, the sky turns pink-orange, and the mountains look like layers of watercolor. Even if you're not a sunset person, they're still captivating. I highly recommend Moon Hill and Xiping Mountain. 🍜 FOOD AND LIVING LIFE • Cafes and restaurants are simple but pleasant. They close early, so be careful. • Breakfasts with mountain views are common. • Prices are lower than in China's big tourist cities. Yangshuo is that rare occasion when you don't want to rush through a list of places to visit, but just want to sit, drink some tea, and watch the light change. 🧭 IMPORTANT • Best time: spring and fall • Summer is green, but hot and muggy • Book at least 2-3 nights, not just passing through • It's better to stay off-street, not on bustling West Street, but a little further away – it's quieter and more atmospheric 📌 MY VERDICT Yangshuo is China without the noise. Yangshuo’s landscape is truly world-class beautiful; every casual shot looks like wallpaper. But after experiencing it, some aspects are really exhausting, and once is enough for me 😔 ✅ Before You Go | Be well prepared - From February to April and during summer vacation, it’s extremely crowded with traffic jams, long queues, and price hikes. - It’s heavily commercialized, with many roadside touts, low-price tour groups, and unofficial guides, which can be very annoying. - The drive from Guilin to Yangshuo isn’t short, with many mountain roads, so take motion sickness medicine in advance if you get carsick. - There are lots of mosquitoes and humidity, so bring mosquito repellent, a light jacket, and comfortable shoes. 🏞️ Attractions | The beauty is real, but so is the fatigue - Li River Bamboo Raft / Xingping Ancient Town The 20 RMB background viewing platform offers stunning scenery, but the bamboo raft rides are expensive, crowded, and require waiting, so the experience is average. - Yulong River Bamboo Raft More delicate than the Li River, with manually pushed rafts that feel authentic, but the drop dams splash water and prices aren’t cheap; crowds reduce the enjoyment. - Ten-Mile Gallery Great for cycling, with gentle and soothing scenery, but many small scattered attractions inside tend to push you to spend more. - West Street Lively and atmospheric at night, with many bars and snacks, but it’s too noisy and crowded, and the commercialization feels repetitive. - Silver Cave The karst cave is spectacular, “Visit Silver Cave, and you’ll never lack money in your life,” but it’s slippery and crowded inside, and walking the whole route is tiring. 🍜 Food Recommendations | Delicious but watch out for traps - Beer Fish Yangshuo’s signature dish, truly fresh, but prices vary greatly, so always ask about the weight before ordering. - Guilin Rice Noodles Local small shops are tasty, cheap, and much more reliable than those in tourist areas. - Stuffed Snails and Bamboo Tube Rice Specialty dishes, good to try once, but eating too much can get overwhelming. - Mugwort Cake and Osmanthus Cake Cheap and tasty snacks, with roadside stalls offering even more authentic flavors. 💡 Tips & Advice | Honest words from someone who’s been there 1. The owner is beautiful and incredibly friendly 💗 This little cafe boasts a 270° mountain view. Looking at the view during a light rain shower gives it a refreshing, artistic Chinese feel. The atmosphere is airy, bright, and not crowded even on a holiday.
