Introducing a traditional Japanese craft you can enjoy on a day trip from Tokyo! 🙌 At Frog Brand Dyeing Crafts in Yashio, Saitama Prefecture, you can experience indigo dyeing using natural indigo. 💓 This is the only place in Saitama Prefecture that uses natural indigo! I had a great time touring the workshop and actually experiencing the indigo dyeing process. ✨ This time, I dyed an obiage (sash sash). 😌 Since I wear a kimono, I'm happy to be able to dye something practical. 🫶 Apparently, you can also dye handkerchiefs, scarves, T-shirts, and many other items! There are various methods, such as tying with rubber bands, sewing with thread, or wrapping the dye around a hose. 😳 I wanted to try the itajime shibori technique, so I experimented with various methods! Because I started preparing the night before, I didn't have the board I actually needed, so I used what I had to create a realistic look. 😂
Indigo Dyeing Process-----------------------------1. Create a pattern using rubber bands, thread, and a board! 2. Place in indigo dye solution. 3. Allow to air dry. 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3. 5. Once dyed, remove the item used to create the pattern. 6. Soak in water. The finished item will be sent to you later. 🫶
