| Qiqihar is so beautiful and so cold. In the morning, I went to Zhalong with my friends from the youth hostel. 10:30 Take Bus 306 at the terminal to Zhalong Scenic Area. The one-way ticket is CNY 10. Note that the bus has a fixed departure time. We arrived at 10:03 and missed the 10:00 bus. Arrive at the scenic area at 11:30. Take the small train to the interior of the scenic area, get off, and walk for 10 minutes to the release site. The release is at 12:30. Then the wait began. The scenery is beautiful. The lake sparkles in the sun, and a whole field of yellow asparagus sways in the wind (is it reeds?) This is my favorite autumn scene. But it was too cold. The wind was strong. It was so cold that even a thick down jacket didn't help. You must wear a furry hat and gloves (my hands were frozen). At 12:30, the staff waved a small flag on the hill. 8 underrated cities to visit during National Day that aren't crowded 01 Yueyang | Hunan If you want a less crowded spot with beautiful scenery for National Day, Yueyang is a good pick. High-speed trains go directly to Yueyang East station, and a taxi from the station to the shore of Dongting Lake costs about CNY 20. ⏰ Go to Yueyang Tower after 4:00 PM when the light hits the glazed tiles at an angle, so you don't have to fight for a photo spot. 📍 Yueyang Tower admission is CNY 70. If you can recite the essay "Record of Yueyang Tower" you can get in free — I tried it, it really saves money. From the tower you can see Dongting Lake, which is much wider than you imagine, and on cloudy days it even has that feel of distant mountains meeting the Yangtze. You need to take a boat to Junshan Island; combined boat and admission is just over CNY 100. In the Yongding tulou, Chengqi Lou and Zhencheng Lou are the highlights. ⏰ Go early in the morning when the mist hasn't cleared and the tulou rings sit inside rings — standing in the courtyard and looking up gives a sense you can't capture in photos. Admission is around CNY 90. Hire a local guide or you'll just be sightseeing without context. Changting ancient town is much quieter than Fenghuang. The bluestone street creaks underfoot, and 📍 there's a stall by the city wall selling denglan cake for CNY 3 each — eat it while it's hot. On this trip to Heilongjiang, I followed Trip.com's recommendation and chose this 7-day guided tour. It was all about convenience—no need to worry about the itinerary or transportation, making it a top choice for a relaxing vacation. The small group was arranged in a 7-seater business van, which was very spacious. The driver and tour guide were super attentive throughout the trip, handling all the dining, accommodation, transportation, and activities perfectly. The trip went smoothly and safely. This route really connects all the essential attractions around Yichun. We visited three forest parks worth checking out; Maolangou wasn't included this time due to road construction along the way. I highly recommend Jinshan Deer Park—the deer are super cute, and the scenery is stunning; every photo looks like a professional shot. The volcanic lava landforms at Wudalianchi are particularly breathtaking; the power of nature is unforgettable. The red-crowned cranes at Zhalong Wetland Park are also very unique, elegant, and lively—definitely worth seeing. I'd like to point out a small detail about the itinerary: on the second day, we had to travel directly from Harbin to the farthest point, Tangwanghe Park. The drive was quite long, which was tough on the driver, and the time for exploring the park felt a bit tight. It would be more relaxed if a closer park could be scheduled for that day, though this might depend on accommodation availability, and I'm sure the travel agency has its own overall considerations. The tour didn't include group meals, but the guide would take us near the market, where we could choose our own restaurants, which was quite flexible. The airport pickup and drop-off services were also very well-handled, saving a lot of trouble. Overall, if you want a worry-free trip without driving yourself and want to easily visit all the essential attractions, this tour is highly recommended. Travel tips: I suggest bringing some snacks to tide you over during long drives, and wear comfortable shoes, as there are many trails in the forest parks.
