If anyone asks me about the most unforgettable natural attraction to visit in Poland, I will definitely recommend Morskie Oko (Eye of the Sea). I originally thought it was just a popular tourist spot that looks good in photos, but after actually making the trek, I realized that the forests, streams, and valleys along the way, as well as the breathtaking lake view at the end, are much more stunning in person. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and quietly take it all in. We set off from Zakopane early in the morning. I highly recommend arriving as early as possible, especially during the peak tourist season when crowds grow and parking is quite limited. The walk from the entrance to Morskie Oko takes about two hours. Almost the entire route is paved with asphalt. Although there are some inclines and declines, it's not overly difficult overall. As long as you wear comfortable sneakers, most travelers can easily complete the hike. If you don't want to walk the whole way, you can take a horse-drawn carriage to a spot closer to the lake area, but you'll still need to walk the final stretch yourself. The greatest joy along the way is the constantly changing scenery. Towering pine forests, crystal-clear streams, and rolling mountain peaks in the distance—every section offers a different view. Stopping occasionally to rest and take a deep breath of the crisp, clean air truly makes you forget the hustle and stress of city life. When you finally reach Morskie Oko, that moment is truly breathtaking. The lake water features interlacing shades of deep blue and emerald green, shifting colors depending on the angle of the sunlight. Surrounded by the Tatra Mountains, the peaks reflect on the calm surface of the lake like a natural painting. Even with many tourists around, you can still feel the unique tranquility and vastness of the mountains and forests, leaving you wanting to sit by the lake and admire it for a long time. I highly recommend setting aside plenty of time—don't just snap a few photos and leave. You can take a slow stroll along the lakeside trail to appreciate the lake from different angles, as every spot offers a unique perspective. If the weather is clear, the reflections on the lake are especially beautiful, making it the perfect time for memorable photos. Practical Travel Tips · It is highly recommended to head out in the morning to avoid the massive crowds after midday; with fewer people, it's much easier to capture beautiful photos. · Wear comfortable, slip-resistant sneakers. Even though the road is mostly flat, you'll still need good support for the long walk. · The weather in the mountains changes rapidly, so it's advisable to bring a light jacket or windbreaker, even in the summer. · Bring enough drinking water and simple snacks; replenishing your energy along the way will make the hike much easier. · If you want to capture the lake's reflections, it's best to go on a clear day with gentle winds for the most magical shots. After an amazing weekend in the High Tatras in Slovakia, it is time to return home 🇵🇱❤️ I didn’t want to take a suuper long ride directly to Warsaw, so I decided to spend a night in another favourite place of mine 💖💖 TBH, it’s my first time in Zakopane in August, so it felt a bit crowdier than I’m used to, but I still love it with all my heart! The weather that day was literally perfect. So even though I was slightly tired after hiking in Slovakia, I couldn’t resist myself doing a quick detour to Gubałówka. It is a small mountain above the Polish town of Zakopane. It is quite a popular tourist attraction, offering incredible views of the Tatras and Zakopane itself. Moreover, it is the first time I hiked it without taking a cable car - and I highly recommend this way. It’s quite easy and relaxing, and you can enjoy the mountain as you go up and down. But if you’d rather go for a quick walk, the funicular is always there. It works from 8:00am to 9:30pm and costs 45 zł round trip (I heard you can buy it for only 27 zł if booking online btw). Anyways, it was a really enjoyable walk and I wanted to share a few shots with you. Later this week I’ll also post some great views from Gubałówka itself (caught one hell of sunset!!!). Mice Amusement Park (named Myszogród in Polish) is the only attraction of this kind on the map of Zakopane. Myszogród is a unique place inhabited by small mice that can be watched for hours, because they are located behind glass panes. On a rainy October morning, I tackled the trail to Morskie Oko, the famous "Eye of the Sea" lake. The initial paved path was slick with wet leaves, but the real challenge began on the steep ascent to Czarny Staw pod Rysami. The clay soil had turned into a viscous, slippery mess. Every step was a gamble; my boots were sliding backward more than they were moving forward. Ahead of me, a local hiker—distinguishable by his sturdy leather boots and canvas rucksack—stopped. Without a word, he bent down, picked up several large, flat stones, and wedged them firmly into the deepest, muddiest ruts of the trail. He tested each one with his foot to ensure stability before moving to the next. He created a makeshift stone staircase over about fifty meters of impassable mud. Once he finished, he looked back, nodded at me, and continued his climb. Thanks to his effort, I crossed the section without a single slip. In Poland, this is known as Górski Obowiązek(Mountain Duty)—the unwritten rule that you help maintain the trail for those who follow. Take a bus from the bus stop next to Zakopane train station. This is the most common and economical way to get around Zakopane. (Morskie Oko signs will be displayed on the windshield; 15 Polish Epsom (PEP) per person; only PEP cash is accepted on board.) The journey takes about an hour. It's more convenient to buy national park tickets online; otherwise, you'll have to queue at the trailhead, which can be very long. From the trailhead to the actual shore of Lake Oasis (Eye of the Sea), there's a 9km paved road (with three sections of rough stone steps, but the distance is relatively short). If you don't want to walk (about 2.5 hours one way), you can take a horse-drawn carriage. The fare is approximately 100 PEP per person uphill and 70 PEP downhill. Only PEP cash is accepted. The carriage doesn't take you directly to the lake. It stops about 1.5km from the lake (at the Włosienica rest stop), from which you'll need to walk for about 20-30 minutes. The road is a gentle asphalt road. Because of the large number of people, the wait for a horse-drawn carriage can be very long, so walking is faster if you have enough time. Along the way, you'll see families with children; the kids are quite capable, mostly walking on their own. You might even encounter deer grazing along the way.

A large screen is mounted in the center of the dining room with the volume kept low, yet every goal brings a sudden halt to the clinking of silverware, instantly replaced by erupting applause and the crisp chiming of raised glasses. I ordered the roasted lamb chops and the catch of the day, paired perfectly with a glass of Icelandic craft beer. Dining from dusk until late into the night, I watched the sky outside transition from golden yellow to soft magenta, before slowly fading back into pale blue. You won't find the rowdy chaos of a typical sports bar here—just a relaxed rhythm accompanied by incredible scenery and fantastic food. For popular games, booking a table at least two hours in advance is highly recommended, as window seats are in extremely high demand. Practical Tips: It takes about 15 minutes to reach the Smáratorg station from downtown Reykjavík by car or bus, and the building offers free parking. During the World Cup, the restaurant extends its hours late into the night. Main courses range from 4,000 to 7,000 ISK, and credit cards are accepted.
