It is the only sacred building in Tallinn that has retained its prototype since the 14th century. Apart from its Baroque spire, this simple Church of the Holy Spirit was completed in the 1860s and retains its original medieval appearance to this day. The Holy Spirit Church played an important role in Estonia's cultural history. The first Bible missionary in Estonia was preached here. In addition, Balthasar Russow, the chronicler of Livonia, worked here as a teacher in the late 16th century.
