Dianchi Reservoir is located at the gorge mouth of Nanjiashan, 6 kilometers southwest of Jinta County, Jiuquan City. It is named after the ostrich inhabiting the waters. The main project consists of dams, spillways, water transmission holes and power pools, and there is an inscription in the southeast of the dam. The reservoir area covers an area of about 140,000 square kilometers and is a large (two) type reservoir. The dam was first built in the Republic of China in 31 years (1943), and was reinforced and repaired four times in 1958, 1964, 1973 and 1994. The current dam is paved with clay-walled gravel dam shells, 240 meters long, 184 meters wide and37.4 meters high. It is one of the largest earth dam reservoir projects in China. It is the pride of Jinta people to irrigate nearly 300,000 mu of farmland and nurture more than 100,000 people.
