National Museum of Ghana
No. 1 of Best Things to Do in Ghana

National Museum of Ghana

National Museum of Ghana is an ideal place to explore Ghana's rich culture and history. Established in 1957, it is one of the older museums in Ghana, housing over 10,000 artifacts that cover three major categories: archaeology, ethnography, and fine arts, with a significant portion of the collection originating from the Akan region. The permanent exhibition in the ethnography gallery is quite impressive: chiefs' ceremonial regalia, traditional musical instruments, brass weights used for weighing gold, beads, traditional textiles, carved wooden stools, and pottery are laid out in sequence, vividly presenting the daily life and handicraft traditions of West Africa. The building itself is also worth a close look. The windows on the museum's concrete facade are arranged in a zigzag pattern, and passing through the entrance porch, one can see a low, shallow, saucer-shaped aluminum dome. It is one of the representative examples of modernist architecture from Ghana's independence era, creating a unique atmosphere for viewing the exhibits. This place is not only a must-visit for history enthusiasts but also a window into understanding Ghanaian culture.Accra · 5.3 km from downtown

Beach volleyball nets are set up year-round on the soft sand, and kayak and water skiing equipment rental points are distributed along the tide line, offering a variety of options for visitors who enjoy both active and relaxing activities. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to relax at here. However, the beach had a lot of trash in the sand. I expected nicer beaches in Accra. If you want a nice beach, you need to travel to the north western part of Ghana.

★☆☆☆☆ DO NOT GO HERE — Unsafe, Disrespectful, and ViolentThis was the worst dining experience of my life.My dad and I ordered food — my meal came in 15 minutes. His didn’t arrive for over an hour. We politely asked multiple waitresses and the cashier what was going on. Each time, we were told “we’re checking on it,” with no explanation. After more than an hour, I asked to have my dad’s meal removed from the bill. The cashier seemed confused. Then the manager brought me to her office. I calmly explained that we waited too long and didn’t feel we should pay for a meal that took over an hour to arrive.Instead of resolving the issue, the manager refused to take responsibility. I said we were leaving and not paying for my dad’s food. At that point, the situation turned physical. The waitress blocked the office door, and the manager physically fought me to keep me from leaving. I defended myself and ran out to find my dad.As we tried to leave, a man put his hands on me and hurt my arm in front of my father in an attempt to force payment. It was humiliating, aggressive, and completely out of line. I begged my dad to leave, but he insisted we pay to avoid trouble. I was devastated that not even my own parent protected me from being physically assaulted in a restaurant. No one should be touched, held, or blocked over a plate of food. This was not just bad service — it was abusive, threatening, and deeply unsafe.DO NOT support 233 Jazz Bar & Grill. I will be sharing this experience on every platform I can.
