Elephant Rock

Two thousand years ago, it served as the southern capital of the Nabataean Kingdom, becoming an important stop for passing caravans due to its oasis water source. Its method of carving tombs into mountains is directly linked to Petra in Jordan. Among the ochre-red sandstone mountains, over a hundred monumental Nabataean rock-cut tombs are well-preserved. Dozens of these tomb facades feature stepped crenellations, cornices, and pilasters, with Nabataean inscriptions above the lintels still clearly legible today. Earlier inscriptions and petroglyphs remain on the rock faces, layered records of this oasis's past.
