The building of the Vienna Music Association is across the street from the Charles Church. This exquisite building is home to the world-famous Golden Hall. It is known as one of the "Five Concert Halls in the World". It is the perennial performance venue of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The Vienna New Year's Concert of the World takes place here. The building was built between 1867 and 1869 by the Danish designer Theophil Hansen. The overall style imitated the architectural style of the Greek temple. The facade is supported by three goddesses, which is classical and chic. Various concerts are held here throughout the year. Together with the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Concert Hall, the Amsterdam Concert Hall, and the Boston Symphony Hall, it is also known as the world's five largest concert halls. There are six main concert halls in the Musikverein Hall building, named Hall (Golden Hall), Brahms Hall, Glass Hall (Grand Auditorium), Metal Hall, Stone Hall (Horst Hasak Hall) and Wood Hall. Among them, the Golden Hall is the largest concert hall in the Music Association Building, which can accommodate 2,000 listeners at the same time. The Golden Hall is rectangular, resplendent and beautiful. The surrounding walls are supported by Greek-style goddess columns. The exquisite oil paintings on the ceiling depict pictures of Apollo, Muses and musical angels, Mozart, Brahms, Shi Busts of music masters such as Trauss can be found here. The acoustic effect of the golden hall is also ahead of the world. The architect hollowed out a space under the wooden floor of the high platform, and carefully calculated the division of the upstairs box and the arrangement of the goddess column on the wall, making the golden wooden floor and wall look like a violin. The sound of the band vibrates and swirls in the hall, and the reverberation curls, so that the audience in the hall can enjoy the same level of music performance regardless of whether they are sitting near or far. Other concert halls Brahms Hall, also known as "Small Hall", is mainly used for small music performances such as piano solo and chamber music. It can accommodate more than 600 audiences. There is a bust statue of Brahms at the entrance. It is decorated with red colonnade and golden ceiling, which is very gorgeous. The Glass Hall was one of four new concert halls, and was also used as a conference hall, movie screening room and dance floor. It is equipped with advanced projection, sound and stage art facilities. The walls of the metal hall are made of special metal plates with excellent sound insulation. It is mainly used as a rehearsal hall and often holds various cultural and artistic activities. The Stone Hall houses precious manuscripts, musical scores, musical instruments and other collections. The wood hall is made of wood from floor to ceiling.Austria · Vienna

St. Stephen's Cathedral

8.2
4.7/5

"St. Stephen's Cathedral is located in Stephansplatz in the center of Vienna's old town. It is the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Vienna and one of the city's symbols. The church was first built in the 12th century as a Romanesque parish church. In the 14th century, under the leadership of Duke Rudolf IV, it underwent large-scale expansion and gradually took on the form of a Gothic cathedral. From the late 15th century, it became the cathedral of the Bishop of Vienna. A fire at the end of World War II destroyed the roof, which was later rebuilt after the war. Over the centuries, many weddings and funerals of the Habsburg dynasty were held here. Mozart was married in this church, and his funeral also took place here. Particularly striking is the church's colorful roof: hundreds of thousands of glazed tiles form diamond patterns, with the Habsburg double-headed eagle emblem embedded on the southern slope and the coats of arms of Vienna and Austria on the northern slope, shimmering brilliantly under the sunlight. The roof has an extremely steep pitch, allowing rainwater to wash it clean and preventing snow from accumulating. The Gothic main tower on the south side stands over 130 m tall and is affectionately called "Steffl" (Little Steffl) by the locals. It once housed the watchmen's quarters, where they kept watch for fires across the city and sounded the alarm bells. The north tower, halted due to construction difficulties, reaches only half the height of the main tower. Upon entering the church interior, the baroque high altar at the far end depicts the martyrdom of the patron saint Stephen; the Wiener Neustadt altar on the north side is a gothic double-winged altar, revealing gilded wood carvings of the Virgin Mary's life when opened on Sundays, with Emperor Frederick III's "A.E.I.O.U." motto still visible on its base. The stone pulpit in the central courtyard features reliefs of the four doctors of the church, adorned with carvings of a toad and lizard biting each other on its handrail, while a self-portrait of the sculptor peeking from a window hides beneath the pulpit steps; the crucifix playfully nicknamed "Jesus with a toothache" by Viennese locals is also worth pausing to admire. The catacombs house remains of over ten thousand individuals, including victims relocated after plagues and the sarcophagi/copper urns of dozens of Habsburg family members; beside the apostle choir stalls, Frederick III's red marble sarcophagus carved with over two hundred figures is regarded as a masterpiece of medieval stone sculpture. If your physical condition allows, you can climb the observation deck via the over 300 spiral stone steps of the south tower to overlook the continuous red-tiled roofs of Vienna's old town. The north tower has an elevator, allowing you to admire the approx. 20-ton "Pummerin" bell up close—one of the few giant bells in Austria and among the top-ranking surviving large bells in Europe. It only rings during important festivals like Christmas and New Year, with its deep chimes resonating throughout the entire old town on New Year's Eve.Austria · Vienna

Located just an hour's drive east of Vienna, the Hof Palace is Austria's largest Baroque complex. The former residence of the Austrian Emperor was once considered one of the magnificent castles of the Habsburg Empire. In 1725, the legendary Savoy general, Prince Eugene, owned this splendid castle, splendid art terrace gardens and manor built in the 17th century. Thirty years later, Queen Maria Theresia bought it. She raised the castle one floor and redesigned the rooms on the first floor. Today visitors can visit Prince Eugene's former residence: from the eastern rooms, visitors can also enjoy views of the vibrant baroque gardens, which are dedicated to the life and work of the art-loving Prince Eugene, Prince of Savoy . The path passes through the neoclassical ballroom of the Baroque church and leads to Queen Maria Theresa's room. The rooms and furnishings on the second floor are also for visitors to appreciate and convey the 18th century lifestyle in an authentic way.Austria · Vienna

Hallstatt is located on the shores of Lake Hallstatt in Salzkammergut, Austria, surrounded by the peaks of the Alps. In 1997, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The town prospered because of salt, with salt mining dating back approx. 7,000 years. The early European Iron Age "Hallstatt culture" is named after this town. The town's colorful wooden houses are built in layers on the steep hillside, reflected in the calm lake water. From the lakeside promenade, the painted wooden houses, church spires, and the lake and mountain scenery blend together. Take a cable car up the hillside where the salt mine is located, and from theSky Walkviewing platform, you can overlook the town and the panoramic lake and mountain views. The salt mine is open to visitors, who can go deep into the mine tunnels and experience thousands of years of salt mining history. And the bone house next to Basilika St. Michael is another unique view in Hallstatt.Austria · Hallstatt

It serves as a living bridge connecting the rich heritage of the past with the future-oriented needs of the modern information society. The Austrian National Library carries on the legacy of the Habsburg court library, comprising eight departments that preserve a significant portion of the world's documentary heritage and bear the responsibility of continuing to protect these treasures. Its collections of ancient, medieval, and modern manuscripts span diverse cultural fields and hold immense international significance. Additionally, the library houses music manuscripts, early printed books and rare texts, historical maps, portraits and other pictorial documents, posters, bookplates, pamphlets, as well as the equally important literary estates of Austrian writers. Four museums under the library's management showcase to the public the world's unique collection of historical globes, an impressive Esperanto collection, and a comprehensive archive of Austrian literature. Since 2018, the Austrian National Library has also operated the House of Austrian History, a museum dedicated to presenting modern historical events with a particular focus on Austria's history since 1918. The Baroque-style State Hall was built between 1723 and 1726, designed by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach, and is hailed as one of the world's most impressive libraries, regularly hosting special exhibitions. The Austrian National Library aims to open its doors to as wide a readership as possible. To achieve this goal, the library regularly holds exhibitions to raise public awareness of its collections and collaborates with other cultural and educational institutions to organize activities such as reading sessions, book launches, seminars and concerts. Vienna Operahouse

4.6/5
297 reviews
The Vienna Operahouse is located next to Vienna's Ringstrasse and is one of the earlier landmark buildings completed along this boulevard. In 1869, it opened its premiere with Mozart's "Don Giovanni," attended by Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth. The theater's performance tradition can be traced back to the 17th-century court opera in the Hofburg Palace. After the imperial era ended, it became state-owned and acquired its current name. This neo-Renaissance-style building was designed by architects Sicardsburg and Van der Nüll, though neither lived to see its completion. The opera house interior has many highlights: the marble-clad foyer and grand staircase are magnificent, the lounge preserves murals painted by artist Moritz von Schwind, and the horseshoe-shaped multi-tiered auditorium with standing room can accommodate over 2,000 spectators. In 1945, the theater caught fire during an air raid, nearly destroying the auditorium and stage, though the foyer, grand staircase, and murals survived. During postwar reconstruction to its original design, extensive wood was used to optimize acoustics, and it reopened in 1955 with Beethoven's "Fidelio." Maher, Richard Strauss, Karajan, Abbado and other masters have conducted here. Some rules established by Maher are still followed today, such as latecomers having to wait until the intermission to enter after the performance begins. The theater still maintains a repertoire rotation system, with dozens of operas and ballets staged in rotation during a performance season, offering almost nightly performances that rarely repeat. The musicians of the Vienna Philharmonic are selected from the theater's orchestra. During the carnival season, the venue transforms into a dance floor for the Vienna Opera Ball. Even without attending a performance, you can join the theater's guided tour, walking from the main staircase to the lounge and auditorium, savoring the architectural and mural details. If you haven't secured a seat in advance but still wish to experience an opera, try the long-standing tradition of standing tickets, which are sold in limited quantity before the show—popular productions may require early arrival to queue. Whichever way you choose to enter, you'll genuinely feel the daily life of this music capital intertwined with opera.Austria · Vienna

An overall good experience with lots of historic reference s. Takes atleast 2-3hrs if you don't want to skip exhibition s. The musuem is open until 18:00 so plan accordingly. Many references only have a german description written next to them, but overall it is English friendly. Would only recommend this place if you are a big art enthusiast, and not just going in for a casual tour. The museum right next to it (natural history musuem) will be a better choice then.

Scanning the QR code at the entrance was quick and easy. The Belvedere Palace's art exhibition spans three floors, enough to easily fill a whole day. The park outside features fountains and sculptures depicting various figures from ancient Greek mythology. I sent photos and pictures of the sculptures to Doubao, and he explained them in detail.

A visit to Vienna is incomplete without experiencing a musical feast. The Golden Hall is magnificent and dazzling, and the classical music is captivating, sometimes gentle and melodious, sometimes stirring and uplifting. Some melodies may seem familiar, but under the conductor's guidance, the entire audience participates in the performance. The conductor is truly captivating, and every musician is exceptionally talented, dressed in elegant and splendid attire. It's an unforgettable musical experience!

Hofburg Palace is one of Vienna's most iconic attractions, showcasing the grandeur of the former imperial residence of the Habsburg dynasty. The palace complex is vast, with beautifully preserved architecture, elegant courtyards, and fascinating museums that offer a glimpse into Austria's royal history. The Imperial Apartments, Sisi Museum, and the Imperial Silver Collection are particularly worth visiting, each telling a different part of the empire's story. Walking through the palace feels like stepping back in time, with every room reflecting the luxury and sophistication of imperial life. The surrounding area is equally impressive, with charming streets, cafés, and historic buildings that make it easy to spend several hours exploring. Whether you're interested in history, architecture, or royal heritage, Hofburg Palace provides an enriching experience and is undoubtedly one of the highlights of any trip to Vienna.

The moment you step into the circular hall, the crystal chandeliers and marble columns transport you back to the Habsburg era. The resident orchestra perfectly balanced the warmth of the strings and the brilliance of the brass in the overture, and the conductor's masterful control of tempo made "The Flames of Revenge" both dramatic and classically refined. The performance was professional, powerful, and absolutely fantastic!
