Every detail, from departure to return, was meticulously arranged, and the pace of the activities was perfectly controlled, allowing us to fully enjoy the beauty and culture of Shirakawa-go. Originally, we were supposed to join a small group tour, but it was changed to a large tour bus tour because the group didn't make it. Our tour guide, Ms. Liu, was very considerate. From before departure to the return trip, she explained a lot of information to us. She was dedicated and responsible, which deserves praise. Because some members of the group were late, even though the tour guide had explained in advance that the tour bus would only wait for an extra 5 minutes, she still waited for the late members. She was very responsible. Of course, she was at ease with the members who were not on time, but she didn't understand why the whole bus was waiting for the latecomers. That's why we never like to join large group tours.

IMO it was good. First stop was for toilet break after 1.5hr ride. After 2hr more we reached the village located at the foot of the mountain where we had lunch - super yummy! Then another 1hr to ascend the mountain. It was zigzag and we saw awesome falls, snow capped hills, super pretty scenes. We had about 1.5hr to explore on our own. I went to the snow wall, and to the Mikurigaike hot spring, past the observation deck. The place was still blanketed in snow so it was so beautiful. Snow Wall was open until 3pm only because perhaps it gets foggy by that time. We rode down the mountain with heavy fog, our driver was good and careful.

I love the experience of seeing one of Japan's National Treasure - the Inuyama Castle. As far as the tour service is concerned, there was a bit of hiccup in the start because our guide could not find my name on the list of guests. It was also unclear how to visually find the tour guide in the meetup point (ex. Other tours would specify finding a person with a blue flag or a crocodile plushie). Email instruction for the meetup just gave the name and number of the tour guide, which is difficult considering (1) there are many tour guides in the area, (2) not all tour guides are able to speak English even from the same company. Also, I felt that the stay in each destination is kind of rushed, 20 or 30 minutes shorter than how the tour is described in the description. Nonetheless, good experience overall.

I booked a group tour through Ctrip, which was very convenient. The meeting point was right at one of the exits of Nagoya Station. The tour guide took attendance and assigned seats. The guide gave a brief introduction to the attractions and then distributed a map. I had heard about Shirakawa-go Gassho-zukuri Village from colleagues; it was said to be very beautiful, especially in winter after a snowfall. Although I went on October 7th, the scenery was still stunning. I never imagined there would be such a beautiful village deep in the mountains. There weren't too many tourists, and everyone strolled happily and comfortably through the village.
