Stone Forest
It is located about 80 km southeast of Kunming.
It was nicknamed the Stone Forest due to the strange sight of the forest of stone pillars, each 20 to 30 meters high.
It is said that it was originally at the bottom of the sea, and the limestone layer on the seabed was eroded by seawater and other factors to form stone pillars. It was then raised above ground due to crustal movement 280 million years ago, and weathered to form its current shape.
Its total area is 4 million square kilometers and is divided into seven areas: Lizisei Stone Forest, Nogu Stone Forest, Dajiashui, Changhu, Yuehu, Zhiyun Cave and Qifeng Cave.
In 2007, it was registered as a World Heritage Site as part of the South China Karst Region.
This tour will take you to the Small Stone Forest and the Large Stone Forest, where strangely shaped stone pillars stand tall.
