First stop: Elephant Trunk Hill/The small town of Étretat, shot in nature In 1868, Monet spent an entire winter in Étretat. Sitting alone at the foot of the valley, I recorded the snow scene on the sea that year with the brush in my hand. His friend: Courbet created his masterpiece series of waves here and achieved his own artistic breakthrough. After witnessing the breakthrough of Impressionism, Maupassant also lamented: Art must follow the principle of being close to nature itself, "tous ceux qui poursuivent la vérité jusqu’ici inaperçue". In the 1880s, Monet returned to Etretat several times, stayed at the Hôtel Blanquet, and painted several masterpieces... Caillebotte painted "le père Magloire"; Boudin used the sunset to study the natural light on the sea and created such masterpieces as "Les pêcheurs sur la plage" and "Lavandières sur la plage d'Étretat". Second stop: Honfleur, a timeless source of inspiration Since the 1820s, the small town of Honfleur has attracted batches of romantic painters, such as: Turner, Bonington, E. Isabey, Huet, Mozin...and later landscape painters. The Saint-Siméon Inn (l’auberge Saint-Siméon) high above the town has hosted almost all painters who have visited the town. At Boudin's call, his painter friends (Monet, JongKind, Courbet, Bazille) gathered here one after another. There are also musicians, poets, writers... Not far away is the former residence of the mother of Charles Baudelaire, the pioneer of Symbolist poetry and the originator of prose poetry. He fled Paris and took refuge in this former residence. Here he became friends with Boudin and continued his masterpiece: Fleurs du Mal. <h3> </h3>
