Khasab Castle was built by the Portuguese in the early 27th century and is located at the tip of Oman's Musandam Peninsula, next to the Strait of Hormuz. About 25 years after its construction, the Portuguese were expelled from Oman and the castle was taken over by the Omani rulers, who modified it for their own military needs. The castle became a museum in 1990.
