Giverny was Claude Monet's home for the last 40 years of his life. It was also a great source of inspiration for his paintings. As you explore his gardens, you'll understand why. The Clos Normand garden is filled with irises, peonies, daffodils, and nasturtiums that hang from arched trellises. The water garden is lush with bamboo and willow trees. Along the path, you'll stop to learn about the inspiration for Vincent van Gogh's last 77 paintings. You can even visit the "Auvers Church" on the way to Vincent's grave. Vincent van Gogh is buried in a very simple grave covered with ivy, next to his brother, Theo, the best friend in the world. You'll be able to pay your respects to this troubled genius and thank him for all the color he brought to the world. You'll then stroll through the wheat fields that inspired his ominous painting "Wheatfield with Crows." This day trip is not only for passionate art historians, but also for anyone who has seen a painting by Claude Monet or Vincent van Gogh and wants to know more about the man behind the colors.
