Product details

TranzAlpine: Scenic Train Christchurch - Greymouth, a 223 km round-trip journey between Christchurch and Greymouth, traverses the vast Canterbury Plains and reaches the spectacular backdrop of the Southern Alps.

Ride our world-famous TranzAlpine train and experience countless cherished highlights, as you ascend to the summit of the Southern Alps, you will see many magnificent landscapes.

From the pastures of the Canterbury Plains to the crisscrossing waterways of the Waimakariri River. Soar over the 73m-high stepped viaduct, then pass through the 8km-long Otira Tunnel directly beneath the main divide. Wind through the lush valleys of Otira and Jacksons, then follow the Grey River's meandering path to reach the rugged West Coast.

Departing from Christchurch, follow the Waimakariri River to Arthur's Pass, where steep alpine meadows undulate beautifully in summer. From Otira, enter the West Coast, where dense subtropical rainforests, rugged rocky terrain, and rivers unfold before your eyes.

Finally arriving in Greymouth, the spectacular West Coast glaciers are just within reach.
