Reviews: Borobudur Sunrise from setumbu Hill , Merapi Volcano & Prambanan Full Day Tour

I joined this tour solo and really enjoyed it. My guide, Seta, was polite and friendly, and helped me take photos at every place we visited. The day I went was cloudy, so I didn’t get to see either the sunrise or sunset, but it didn’t spoil the experience at all. After visiting Borobudur, we went on a jeep ride — we visited a volcano eruption museum, saw a lava rock shaped like a face, and drove along the river. After that, we had a coffee break before heading to Prambanan just in time for sunset. Overall, I had a great experience and wonderful memories from this tour.

What a fabulous day! Our guide picked us up at our hotel door. He was a true gentleman. He was friendly, kind, and extremely informative. He answered our questions about agriculture, culture, religion, driving…he knew everything! We went to the Buddhist temple. A very interesting tour and an amazing piece of Indonesian history. We then went to the Merapi Volcano, where we were driven in a Jeep to see some artifacts about the volcano eruption in 2010. The day was a bit cloudy so we couldn’t see the top of the mountain. The last stop on the tour was the Hindu temple. Our guide had amazing stories to tell..he was extremely informative. It was a fabulous day…I only hope that I can retain half of all that he told us!

Tour was arranged by 'borobudursunrise.com' and assigned with Mr.Koko as my guide/driver. He came to the pickup point on time; explained the itinerary and helped me navigate across places by giving me some privacy time. He helped me cover the Borobudur temple with a climb to the top of the structure, Merapi volcano and to the Prambanan temple.... all in one day. This tour agency is very trust worthy and I highly recommend this to my friends.

Borobudur climb is tightly managed by the authorities at the site. You may get lucky and get a good local guide at Borobudur with a strong command of English (or not). Merapi was interesting, but if you thought you would be looking into a volcanic caldera, well that's not what this volcano is about. You look at it from about 2 km away and from below. You do see the puffs of smoke coming out of course. The viewing area is a bit dusty, to be expected of course, and a line of local shops hoping to get some tourist money. Prambanan is a highlight, particularly if you get there for sunset. In some ways, this site was more satisfying than Borobudur. We did our tour over 2 days to these sites. I think trying to do it in one day on a hot and humid day would be tiring A good guide will also take you to clean places to eat, which our guide did. The food was excellent and amazing value for money.
