Miramare Castle

4.5/5
9 reviews
Miramare Castle boasts stunning views of the Adriatic Sea, with its white exterior beautifully contrasting against the azure waters and sky. Both the castle's exterior and its interior viewing platforms offer breathtaking coastal scenery full of atmosphere. As a representative building from the Austro-Hungarian Empire era, the castle blends neoclassical style with contemporary designs. Its interior preserves the original furnishings of the archduke and duchess, offering visitors an immersive glimpse into the lifestyle of 19th-century European nobility. The castle is surrounded by meticulously maintained English gardens, featuring lush vegetation and winding pathways. Strolling through them offers an escape from urban noise while complementing the castle itself to create a dual experience of "architecture + nature."Grignano · 11.9 km from Duino

The Unirii Square is the main square of Trieste and the largest seaside square in Europe. Surrounded by tall white buildings on three sides and facing the bay on the other side, it was once the main outlet for the Austro-Hungarian Empire, a once prosperous port city and a music and literature center, which gradually declined as it was merged into Italy. There are important buildings such as the City Hall around the square, and many local people gather here, which is very lively.Trieste · 19.1 km from Duino
Victory Lighthouse

Victory Lighthouse

4.2
This monument was built immediately after the end of World War I, thanks to the unwavering commitment of architect Arduino Berlam. The old lantern no longer served the port's needs, and a new lighthouse was needed to commemorate this historic moment. In fact, in addition to its role as a navigational safety feature, the Lighthouse of Victory served a dual purpose: to celebrate the transition of Trieste to the Kingdom of Italy and to commemorate those who died at sea during World War I. The lighthouse stands within the complex of Fort Cresic, one of the city's important Austro-Hungarian positions, dating back to the mid-19th century. Every element was designed to have a strong symbolic value. Now a major national monument, the lighthouse offers visitors the opportunity to observe the city from a panoramic perspective.Trieste · 16.4 km from Duino

Grotta Gigante

Grotta Gigante

3.7
Grotta Gigante is located near Sgonico in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of Italy and is a distinctive local karst cave view. As the name suggests, the cave is impressive for its massive interior space. With expansive cave halls and huge stalactites, stalagmites, and rock walls formed over long periods of geological change, it is easy to feel the spectacular underground world shaped by nature once you step inside. After entering the cave, visitors can follow a designated route deep underground to admire diverse rock formations under lighting. As the route progresses, the surrounding space alternates between narrow passages and expansive openings, creating an experience completely different from the natural scenery on the surface. The temperature inside the cave is relatively stable. Even if the weather outside is hot, you can feel a distinct chill inside, so it is advisable to bring a light jacket when visiting.Sgonico · 14.7 km from Duino

Piazza del Duomo

Piazza del Duomo is located in the heart of the historic center of Florence, which was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1982. The square has been the city's religious center since the Middle Ages. In the late 13th century, surrounding residential buildings were demolished to build the new cathedral and bell tower, and it was gradually expanded over the following centuries to its current size. The square brings together three iconic buildings: theCathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Giotto's Bell Tower, and The Baptistery of San Giovanni. Together, they form the "Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore complex," showcasing the evolution of architectural art in Florence from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. The dome designed by Brunelleschi stands over 90 m high and is a striking visual focal point on the square's skyline. Historic buildings such as the Archbishop's Palace, the Cathedral Museum, and the Bigallo Museum are also located around the square. Standing in the center of the square and looking around, the facades of buildings from different eras and styles complement each other, making it a key location for experiencing the urban landscape of Florence.Italy · Florence

Neuschwanstein Castle

4.5/5

Neuschwanstein Castle is located in the foothills of the Alps in Bavaria, Germany, near the Austrian border and not far from the small town of Füssen. Built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria as a tribute to composer Wagner and inspired by the legend of the "Swan Knight" Lohengrin, construction began in 1869. Its fairy-tale appearance—white walls, blue domes, and scattered spires—served as the inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle. It is perennially regarded as Germany's tourism icon. The castle interior was originally planned to have over 200 rooms, but by the time of the king's death in 1886, only a dozen had been completed, each exquisitely crafted. The throne hall's dome is painted with a star-studded blue night sky, while the floor features mosaic patterns of flora and fauna, with a chandelier modeled after a Byzantine crown hanging high above. The Gothic double bed in the king's bedroom took over four years to carve by more than a dozen sculptors. The relatively large singers' hall in the castle, adorned with murals of "Lohengrin" and "Parsifal," was modeled after the Wartburg singers' hall and still hosts concerts every September. Swan motifs are nearly omnipresent, appearing in murals, door handles, and washstands. Interestingly, this medieval-inspired castle was already equipped with telephones, central heating, hot water, and automatic flushing toilets at the time, making it remarkably advanced for its era. To capture the classic postcard-perfect shot, head to Marienbrücke. This pedestrian bridge, suspended over the Pöllat Gorge, faces the southern facade of the castle and is not far from the bus drop-off point. It gets crowded in the afternoon, so an early visit is recommended. You can take the shuttle bus, a horse-drawn carriage, or hike up the mountain. The hiking route offers a bird's-eye view of the castle, and along the way, you can also see the yellow Hohenschwangau Castle, the old royal palace on the opposite hill. The castle's ending carries a touch of tragedy: Ludwig II built it with his private funds and loans, facing strong opposition from his ministers. On a late night in June 1886, he was arrested in his castle bedroom and mysteriously died days later by Lake Starnberg. Seven weeks later, the castle opened to the public. Today, visiting the interior requires following a guide, and photography is prohibited inside. Live guides provide commentary in English or German, while an audio guide is available for Chinese. Visitor guide To the castle There are three ways to reach the castle: taking the shuttle bus, riding a carriage, or going on foot. Most people choose to take the shuttle bus, then walk a short distance to Neuschwanstein Castle, where there is a viewing platform to overlook another castle—Hohenschwangau. You can also reach the castle by carriage, where you can enjoy picturesque scenery along the way, and the witty carriage driver will share legendary stories that happened here. After disembarking, it's just a short walk to the castle entrance. If you don't want to wait in line for the shuttle bus or prefer outdoor activities, you can also hike to Neuschwanstein Castle. Along the way, you can capture an aerial view of the castle, and there are relatively fewer travelers. Take a postcard-perfect photo of the castle Marienbrücke (Mary's Bridge) is located near the terminal stop of the uphill bus. This 100 m-high bridge spans between two cliffs, with its floor made of wooden planks that slightly bounce when stepped on. Here, you can capture the famous postcard-perfect shot of Neuschwanstein Castle. If you arrive early before your scheduled visit time, you can first head to Marienbrücke to photograph the beautiful view of Neuschwanstein Castle, as the bridge gets overcrowded after noon. Guided tour To visit the castle interior, you must follow the official guide. The guide provides services in English and German. You can also choose to use an audio guide (available in Chinese). After the visit, you can take a short break at the café inside the castle.Germany · Schwangau

Miramare Castle is also a very shocking site. The scale of the entire castle building is also very good. There are many good works of art inside. The large garden of the castle is also very unique.

Unification Square is very close to the city center. There are free travel routes nearby. You can see many churches and palaces. Many buildings are decades old. There is a big stone monument in the middle. When you come out of the train station and walk to the church, you will pass this small square with a monument in the middle.

The queue was quite long, and you need to make sure you're in the correct line before you start queuing… Queues at tourist attractions in Europe often consist of several separate lines with unclear signage. I didn't choose to climb the bell tower or the dome, but the museum included in the ticket is worth a good look; personally, I felt the environment was quite nice.

such a lovely place, the duomo or cathedral is very big that I cannot take a picture of the whole cathedral. Even if I have seen it several times I always love to visit and see it again and again.

We choose the horse carriage ride up, it was €8 a person. It took around 20 minutes and we enjoyed the forest view. Make sure to arrive and park at least an hour early. The entrance time is exact to every 5 minutes for crowd control. The entrance ticket includes an audio set and takes around 30 minutes. You are moved thru the rooms rather quickly. There are free lockers at information at the entrance area if needed. No pictures can be taken during the tour. **not handicapped friendly ** must be able to walk for 2-3 hours and climb up and down many flights of stairs. There are no elevators. We planned to walk down but it began to rain. So we took the horse carriage again -/€4/person.
